Infantry Division. He had taken command in April of 1917, when America had declared war on
Germany and Maj. Donovan trained his men with a lot of discipline, and was very harsh to
them. He landed his troops in Luneville France, sometime in February in the year of 1918.

Relationship Between The And The Senate
Relationship with the Senate:
At this point, Octavius practically ruled all of Rome and its assets with the support of his military.
Octavius now had only to gain the affection and trust of the people, so he masked his great power
by establishing a new system of government while maintaining Roman traditions and befriending
the Senate. On the other hand, the Senate had grown accustomed to, and benefited from, having
Octavius in command, and the fact that the government system of the old Republic had crumbled
in failure gave the Senate a reason to keep Octavius in office.
Octavius knew that his rise to absolute power would be delivered to him gradually and that, in
order to fully and effectively implement his complex plans into Roman society, a continuous
office as Proconsul would not be sufficient. With this in mind, Octavius proceeded methodically
and with tact. He justified any of his actions by claiming that it was for the greater good of the
Republic of Rome so that no one would see fit to usurp his power, whether that be by legal means
or by assassination. He promised that he would bring back the customs of Rome s ancestors, and in
January 27 B.C., he announced that he would be returning humbly his power over Rome back to
the Senate and the people of Rome. Although he had just sacrificed a significant amount of power,
Augustus knew that he still had the back up support of soldiers and war veterans if the situation
turned dire.
In response, the Senate

Modern Metropolis, By Fritz Lang
Tanveer Khan Kaliopi Pappas, J. D. Civilization 003 4 May 2016 Modern Metropolis Modernity
is a new era in which humans began to think about themselves, and started changing from old
traditions like religious influences to their own culture of radical new ideas. This era is full of
rational humanistic ideas and increased the opportunities for people to go after their interests in
life. Modernity is kind of like the days Americans live today with freedom to be who you think
is right. People began trying to voice their opinions to higher authority, and eventually society
picked up on giving what mankind deserved. For example, many people in the modern era tried
to fight for their natural rights, and also some women requested for some recognition with rights
like men. In the film, Metropolis, by Fritz Lang, there are various elements of modernity. Mr.
Fredersen, who was the owner of Metropolis city, was very selfish and greedy for production that
led to increase in revenues. He was married to Hel, who died giving birth to Freder. Rotwang was
attracted to Hel, also a scientist, inventor, and kind of insane. He now hates Mr. Fredersen and
his son for all the reasons he wasn t able to receive love from Hel. Maria is the religious figure
where she stays underground in the catacombs to spread hope to all the workers that just left it all
out at their jobs. The creators of the film made the setting full of modern buildings and machines to

Comparing Confucianism And Daoism
Confucianism and Daoism (also called Taoism) are two of the main religions in China. Each
represents a different way to live life in balance and harmony.
Confucianism focuses on the community, looking at political philosophies to ensure social
harmony. Daoism focuses on the health of the body and harmony with the natural environment.
Modern Chinese scholars trace the origin of these two philosophies to the ancient belief of the the
Yi Jing; the two opposing forces that control the Universe. The universe must be in balance and
any extreme action in one direction will produce an imbalance in the system. The creative
alternation between the forces of yin and yang is called dao way. (Daoism and Confucianism).
origins of confucianism
After witnessing his world in a turmoil, Chinese philosopher Kong Qui (Confucius) believed that
his society had devolved because of its abuse of ritual (religious practices) and music. Confucius
believed that if leaders (government) started to set a good example by performing rituals and music
correctly then the people would start to follow. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Is The Critique Of The Da Vinci Code
Conspiracy of the Millenium: The Da Vinci Code Dan Brown s famous novel, The Da Vinci
Code created a lot of controversy regarding Christianity after being published in 2003. What
makes this novel so controversial is that Brown tells a story about a museum curator with a secret
pact, a historian, a cryptologist and how the church has kept the truth about Mary Magdalene and
Jesus. Brown s claims about the existence of a secret society called the Priori of Sions whose
members include Isaac Newton, Botticelli, Victor Hugo and even Da Vinci himself and their
possession of the Holy Grail, an arrangement of documents that reveals the real relationship
between Jesus and Mary Magdalene and the existence of a daughter between the two of them.

As a member of this cult, some of Da Vinci s most famous paintings include secret messages and
information that only members of the cult were able to decipher, leading to conspiracies that
involve the Clergy and their secrets. One of Da Vinci s pieces, The Last Supper is used as
evidence to prove his involvement in the secret sect. The Last Supper practically shouts at the
viewer that Jesus and Magdalene were a pair (Brown 244). The Priory of Sion is referred as to
have known the true nature of this relationship and having worshiping her as a symbol of sacred
femininity and power. The Priory of Sion, to this day, still worships Mary Magdalene as the
Goddess, the Holy Grail, the Rose and the Divine Mother (Brown 255). The fact that the Priory of
Sion, an important organization involved with Christian secrets and documents considered her as a
Goddess suggests the true importance of this woman. The intimate relationship described by
Brown in his novel could cause a strife involving the whole world, Christianity is the biggest
religion in the world composed by 31.5% of the world population. The Roman Catholic Church has

Life Changing Events Can Change A Person s Viewpoint
Crash Movie Essay Gunreet Basra
Life changing events can change a person s viewpoint. In the movie Crash directed by Paul
Haggis, the characters are faced with life altering situations, which ended up changing their
perspective. First off LAPD Office John Ryan, who is viewed to have a bias against African
Americans, willingly risked his life for an African American woman. Furthermore, Farhad a Persian
shopkeeper, decided to react toward a devastating event, with anger, without realization of the
consequences. Also Anthony, an African American thief, chooses to save the lives of several
Cambodian people. All three characters face life impacting events, which causes them to change
their outlook on life.
Initially, Officer John Ryan is portrayed as a racist cop, with a prejudice against African
Americans. However, when he is placed in a life or death situation, he chooses to risk his life to
save an African American woman.Officer John Ryan s negative attitude is due to a difficult matter
he faces at home. He projects his anger by abusing his power at work. For example, Officer John
Ryan unnecessarily decides to stop an African American couple, abusing his authority. He violates
the couple, by sexually abusing Christine, the wife of T.V director Cameron Thayer. His decision to
take these actions was due to the argument he had prior with a presumed African American woman,
about the issues he had at home. His

Essay The Battle of Waterloo
French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte is remembered as one of the greatest minds in military
history. His revolutionary approach to warfare changed the course of history and the principles
which governed his style of leadership are still valued today. Although he had an illustrious career
of over 25 years and expanded the French Empire from Portugal to Russia, his reign came to end at
the hands of his enemies. The Battle of Waterloowas Napoleon s last stand as a military
commander and will be examined for his use of the principles of the operations process. Napoleon
failed to implement these activities effectively and is ultimately responsible for the loss of the
battle. Napoleon was able to lead his men, but was unable to overcome his... Show more content on

Napoleon quickly learned he was outnumbered by the Allied force, and developed a strategy to
seize the initiative. Napoleon faced an Austrian Army of 200,000, Russian Army of over
150,000, a Prussian Army of over 100,000, and British Army of over 100,000 which out
numbered the 200,000 he could muster. The French Commander decided to implement a
strategy to divide and attack each army individually in order to defeat their will. Napoleon
believed the Allied Forces would lose resolve if separated and not come to the aid of another
country.2 Napoleon s assessment proved accurate as the Austrian and Russian Army s did not
arrive in time to be relevant, and he was able to split the British and Prussian forces in Belgium.
At the Battle of Ligny, on June 16th, 1815 Napolean was able to defeat the Prussian Army
commanded by General Gebhard von Blucher; however, he was unable to destroy them. Three
days later the Battle of Waterloo was fought 12 miles south of Brussels. Napoleon s French forces
faced the Duke of Wellington from Britain and General Gebhard von Blucher of Prussia. The
Battle of Waterloo can be broken down into five distinct phases which ultimately lead to the defeat
of Napoleon and the French Army. At approximately eleven in the morning, the first phase of
attacks occurred at Hougoumont in an attempt to be a diversion and draw forces from the Duke

The Latino Culture
The Latino culture takes a more monistic approach to the mind body problem. This may affect
the ways in which depression is experienced and expressed. For example, studies have found that
Latinos are more likely to express psychological distress in somatic terms such as lack of energy,
sleep disturbances, and body aches (Martinez Tyson, Castaneda, Porter, Quiroz, Carrion, 2011).
Additionally, studies find that Latinos are more likely to take a holistic approach to healing as
evidenced by the principle of mente sana en cuerpo sano y alma sana (healthy mind in healthy body
and healthy soul) which communicates the strong connection between mind, body, and soul
(Comas Diaz, 2006). This suggests that a purely physical approach to therapy may not be well
received by the Latino client, and is supported by studies showing Latino patients feel apprehensive
towards being treated with anti depressants even when they have positive attitudes towards
receiving treatment for depression(Cabassa, Lester, Zayas, 2007). Understanding the client s
perception of the self is important in diagnosing and treating depression. Therefore, an effective
therapist must be able to understand and incorporate the client s worldview throughout the
therapeutic process.

Deductive Approach In Research Approach
Research Approach
Every researcher adopts a specific approach for his research study, which is very important step
in every research. There are mainly two research approaches, inductive and deductive by looking
to the research onion of Saunders et al (2009, p. 108). In inductive approach, researchers use their
findings for the generation of theory. Theory is a term which can be use in different ways and in
qualitative research researcher use this term about the explanation of observations. Inductive
approach allows the researcher in previous literature and finds the new research question, where he
comes up with the new theory after the analyzing. While deductive studies, use theory deductively
and places it in the very beginning of the study. With the objective of testing or verifying a theory
rather than developing it, state hypothesis and collects data to test it. Reflect on the confirmation
or disconfirmation of the theory by the results (Creswell, 2009, p. 10 14) and our choice for
research approach is deductive approach. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This morning I rid my refridgerator of anything not necessary for my future endevour. I do not
enjoy the taste of pork and so I will be refraining from all meats for the duration of my dietary
journey. While unpacking all of my fresh produce into the fridge I was delighted by the variety

readied my cup as usual with the exception of my precious milk. Milk is one thing I am yearning
for in all of this. The milk I have does not have any label that defines it as Kosher. Naked tea is
so drab but I will dredge on in the hopes to find the meaning in all of this. At the end of day one
my body feels quite good while I do not have any craving for meat. I also went without bread and
cheese today, sufficing on only fruits and vegetables. I understand that a regular Jewish meal

Second Marshmallow Experiment Analysis
The famous marshmallow test analyzes children at the age of four to see if they can resist the
temptation of a marshmallow right in front of them for an entire fifteen minutes, and if they could,
a second marshmallow would be a reward for their patience. If the child was unable to resist, eating
the marshmallow was an option, but a second marshmallow would not be rewarded. This
experiment was first conducted by a Stanford University Professor, Walter Mischel, in the late
nineteen sixties. Walter Mischel was from Vienna, Austria, and left for the United States during the
time when Hitler was banishing anyone with Jewish heritage. In this experiment, Mischel was
looking for mental processes that could help the children to delay gratification and for those... Show

and career successfulness were better than the kids who couldn t wait. Walter was curious if
cultural differences would be a factor in the waiting time so he also performed a variation of the
marshmallow experiment with two distinctly different ethnic groups; the East Indians and the
Africans. The East Indians believed in preparing for the future and the Africans believed you
should live in the moment and enjoy every second of life. A small candy bar was offered for
them to eat immediately, or they could wait a few days to have a bigger candy bar. In this
particular experiment, he found that cultural differences had little effect to whether someone
waited for a candy bar or not. Mischel came to the conclusion that it wasn t necessarily a certain
amount of intelligence that gave a child the power to resist the marshmallow, it is self control. It
doesn t take someone who is a genius to figure out that if they want the marshmallow, all that needs
to be done is wait. How the patient waiters achieved this was by distraction.

When you have large sample sizes the effects of the extreme values on the sample mean downsize

Sputnik Sweetheart Figurative Language
Through complementary uses of figurative language, symbolism, and plot setting, Haruki
Murakami s iconic novels Sputnik Sweetheart and After Dark allude to a sense of crippling
nostalgia, and budding adolescence. For example, both reality altering stories contain valuable
information about normal people that experience abnormal situations. Haruki supported this
statement himself with this quote, This sort of story just comes naturally to me. Rather than stories
of abnormal things happening to abnormal people or normal things happening to normal people , I

Whether time is a real concept or if humans made the whole idea up so we can feel as though we
have a solid grip on reality. Haruki Murakami is a individual who contains an abundance of
philosophical thoughts, so it s no surprise that his novels hold theoretical situations in the ink
embedded in their pages. In Sputnik Sweetheart, the notion of perfection is challenged in the
protagonists lives. Miu, Sumire, and K all seem to be searching for society s idea of what a
perfect specimen should look like, and how they should live. This idea crumbles to dust after the
climax of the novel. Remove everything pointless from an imperfect life and it d lose even its
imperfection. In After Dark, the concept of nighttime feeling as if time has been altered is
supported with the bustling street life of Tokyo. Although the earth rests, individuals still battle
with time for their own specialized needs. Even at a time like this, the street is bright enough and
filled with people coming and going people with places to go and people with no place to go:

1. Fluorescence vs Wavelength graph of Riboflavin 50ppb Stock Solution
The first part of the experiment involved graphing the fluorescence intensity of a 50ppb
Riboflavin stock solution. The wavelength to begin measuring from was based on two factors,
the fact that the plastic UV cells that were being used absorbed light up to 320nm, and that the
molecule needed to absorb light very strongly, and needed to be seen clearly on the graph. Thus,
reading the graph provided in the lab manual[1], it could be seen that there was a peak at around
~450nm which would easily be able to be seen without interference from the plastic cells. In the
sample measured from the stock solution, the peak occurred at a
wavelength of 523.52nm and reached a peak of 115.52.
The excitation spectrum was then measured on the same graph. The wavelength at which the peak
occurred on the fluorescence spectrum was entered into the program, and a scan range from 350nm
to 800nm was used. The excitation spectrum had two peaks, the first occurring at a wavelength of
366.15nm

Toyota s Management Structure Functional Integration
One of Toyota s issues was their lack of organizational culture, perceived or real. Thus,
organizational culture is the shared values that are accepted by members of the organization
(Bethel, 2016). Unfortunately, Toyota s corporate culture was one of total secrecy, which left many
feeling there was something amiss. Further, corporate arrogance, complacency, and company
insular nature were evident (Parnell, 2014, p. 603). Additionally, newly appointed CEO Akio
Toyoda was invisible, which created contention amongst others in leadership. There seemed to be a
belief that family members were focused on safety, while non family members were focused on
profits (Parnell, 2014).
Likewise, Toyota s management structure lacked functional integration because the functional
operating areas reported directly to Japan. Basically, it was top down management structure, which
may have led to several of the key issues, which were:
High growth trajectory
Corporate culture
Poor leadership
Management structure
Failure to own mistakes
Focus on cost cutting
Pressure on suppliers to reduce costs (Parnell, 2014).
Clearly, Toyota was in the automobilemanufacturing industry and had been for many years. Hence
their key competitors included: Honda, General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Kia, Hyundai, Mercedes
Benz, BMW, and Nissan (Parnell, 2014). As with the others in the industry, some of the key risks
associated with the auto industry were the impact of the recession, rising costs of

My Opinion One Of Hummanity s Greatest Art Masterpieces
In my opinion one of hummanity s greatest art masterpieces was created during the period of
1495 98. The fresco was made during Renaissance using tempera and oil on gresso. It s
measurements are 460 880cm (15/29ft). The genue fresco is in the Convent of Santa Maria

had usually appeared in sacred wall paintings as part of the Passion cycle, but in this period it
emerges as an isolated scene and acquires a particular significance as a subject for refectories.

Remaining outside the circle of those innocently smitten, he, who alone shares the secret with
Christ, is the second lone figure in the picture; but his isolation is due to guilt. (Ludwig

him as a contribution of betraying Jesus. He is had poured out the salt next to his right hand.
This action could be relative to the expression to betray the salt signifying to betray one s
Master. His elbow is on the table and his head is in the lowest level of all disciples in the painting.
Peter looks irritated and is having a knife in his hand pointed away from Jesus.
In the middle of all groups is Jesus, the most significant figure in the painting, he is sitting in front
of three windows that are at the end of the room. And so we see him in the midst of his most
faithful followers, who are after all only men, able to grasp the external event but without
understanding its inner meaning as the suddenly isolated God, alone in the knowledge of his
destiny which only he can see as sacrifice and mystery . (Ludwig H.Heydenreich 1974)

tradition of communion. Jesus gives a sign in the form of an action he takes simultaneously with
the traitor, involving the dipping of bread.

Social And Social Impact On Human Diversity
Social workers must be able to discuss the human behaviors of different groups of people. The

works to form a union for families, organizations and others members of society to work together
to solve problems. In some parts of the world the social systems are not alike but still fall under
classes. For example the United States has what is called a class system. In the United States
our classes s are set up based upon your financial status. It is based upon three levels rich, middle
class and poor, but some argue it consist of more. There are the subsystems that is the rich, the
upper middle class, middle class, the lower middle class and the poor. These systems work
together to supply what is needed to the different system that make up the whole systems. In China
there is also a class system of government but it works a little

Benefits of Attending Boarding School for the Arts
Some might ask why anyone would even begin to want to leave home for something like high
school. Why would you leave your home, your friends, your family? It is indeed a good
question, one which I will answer in this essay. The most important reason I want to go to
boarding school is for the arts. Don t get me wrong; I love my school. It is an arts magnet school,
of course, and does have a partial emphasis on them, but I want to go somewhere where the whole
school is focused on what I love to do most: perform. At GCHS, 70% of the students I ve met only
care about sports. It s difficult to feel passionate about something you love when everyone just
shoots it down for important things. Of course, the administration aren t like that, but... Show more

The class selection is more diverse as well. Recently, they brought in a new class that essentially
allows students to play detective : Forensic science. Finally, there s one big difference between
public school and boarding school: Saturday classes. Walnut Hill has weekly Saturday classes,
which take place during Saturday morning. This gives you even more time to learn, also less
free time, but it keeps you busy you re always engaged, always learning, and never bored. Most
boarding school classes operate very differently from those at public school. At public school,
your teachers get tired of you trying to engage them with multiple questions they re there to
teach, gosh dang it, not listen to students and their stupid ramblings. At boarding school, the
class structure is much less like a lecture hall and much more like a conference meeting:
everyone offers input and it s nearly impossible for you to remain silent and unengaged. This
means that you won t end up like the guy in front of me in geometry who simply sits and scrolls
Facebook because no one has enough time to just sit and discuss his issues and grades with him.
Boarding school also contains incredible resources. A weight room, swimming pool, fully
stocked library, and amazing theatre facilities are some of the ones at Walnut Hill. Because you
have such great resources, it s not difficult for one to find a good accelerated reader book for
English class, nor is it difficult to read up on that new

Similarities Throughout the Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey...
There is many similarities through the tales in the Canterbury Tales, written by Geoffrey Chaucer.
All of the tales can easily be related to another tale through characters, symbolism, the plot, or
morals. Some examples of these relations can be found in The Millers Relating to the Knights
tales with almost Identical Characters. And The Franklin s Tale is similar to the Pardoner s Tale
with Greed. And, The Knights Tale, The Miller s Tale, and The Pardoners tale are similar in many
different aspects. The tales in The Canterbury Talescan all be related to one another, find a unique
match, making each tale be a pair or even a triple with another story. The Millers Tale and The
Knights Tale are two tales in the novel which are similar. In both of these tales, the characters are
almost identical. In the Miller s tale there is a beautiful women named Allison, who has two men
deeply in love with her. Though one of these men is her husband, who she married due to his
wealth, and the other a educated clerk. Allison doesn t want to be with any one man, and would
rather be single and mingling. Similarly in The Knights Tale, there s also a beautiful women
named Emily and two men that love her. However, in this tale the two men that love her are
brothers. Along with the fact that Emily does not want to be with anyone, and wants to stay a
virgin the rest of her life. But, as Emily says, ...So I must wed, though with regret, Give me the
man who loves me most. (Page 62) she accepts

What Is Ethics in Business
What is Ethics in Business?
In general, personal ethics can be described as the moral guidelines each of us uses in our daily
lives. It is these guidelines which govern how we behave including how we speak and act
towards others in our everyday interactions no matter if they are face to face, by way of telephone
or in writing. Much the same can be said for ethics in business. Business ethics are the moral
philosophies and written rules of conduct which govern how the business treats not only its own
employees but also how the business handles its daily dealings in everything ranging from
bookkeeping and accounting to advertising and customer relations. Our text for this class, Marketing
, The Core describes ethics as the moral principles and values that govern the actions and decisions
of an individual or group (pg.69), and refers to ethical business practices many times throughout the
book.
Business ethics rely on the moral values of both individuals and groups of individuals since in
many cases, decisions which can affect the business can be, and are made by both. Company
officers, managers, management teams, supervisors and employees alike all routinely make
decisions on a daily basis, which can have a profound effect on many facets of a company
including overall production, employee morale and even internal or public image. Typically a
company will establish a moral identity over a period of time, and employees that come and go
from the business over its lifetime are

The last risk would be financial issues due to insurance issues. Of 10 million Americans nearly 7
million of them being over 65 rely on some level of assisted care (Weston 2012). This number
does not include the number of people that are under the age of 65. Many people that rely on
long term care live on disability or social security. These people are living on extremely limited
income put them and their families in mental distress trying to figure out how to pay for the
needed care. Medicare provides only 100 days of care following hospitalization (Weston 2012).
After the 100 days it then becomes the responsibility of the patient to either pay out of their
pocket or use a supplemental insurance. For many this is an issue as they do not have any other
insurance nor do they have the finances to afford this care on their own. With patients under
Medicaid insurance there is still an issue Medicaid provides long term care, but only after a
patient has deplete his/her finances (Weston 2012). So how does this affect the organization
itself, now with lack of insurance you run the risk of not being paid for services already rendered.
The other risk involved is that if a patient is unable to pay for the care themselves then they have
to resort to other means of care, now the organization has empty beds. Empty beds mean that there
is not a high need for staff members resulting in layoffs. All of these risks can in fact the

Negative Effects Of Animal Cruelty
Animals are the second most wonderful creature on the earth by God after the birth of humans.
They are not just a part of our food circle while they are also good as a friend like dogs or cats for
relasing stress and entertainment. But now humans started cruelty against them which is
increasing from few years back and we can watch it on streets by owners for anger, in forests by
hunters for hobby and for their skin, in hospitals by doctors for testing. Therefore humans are
putting earth into a danger zone as animalcruelty bestow negative impacts on environment such as
animal extinction (The Editors of Encyclopaedia), food chain, less soilfertilization, no skin for

transforming the green lands, forests for agriculture, timber industries and for exporting the body

Red algae, Rhodophyta, is easily identified in the marine environment because it appears as a red
color. There are many different species, originating from many different corners of the Earth. The
ocean biome in the Biosphere 2 was constructed using raw seawater off the coast of Southern
California, which contained many different unknown species of algae. During the construction of
the biome, other known species of algae from various marine environments, Gulf of Mexico and
Hawaii, were also introduced into the ocean. Research is continuing to be conducted on all various

Essay On The Hobbit
Born in South Africa in 1892, J.R.R. Tolkien is best known as the author of his trilogy, The Lord
of the Rings (Baker). Neal Baker described Tolkien as The most prominent fantasy writer of the
twentieth century (Baker 672). Before writing The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien wrote The Hobbit,
which serves as a predecessor to the events of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. When The Hobbitwas
published in 1937 it received popular and critical acclaim (Baker). In J.R.R. Tolkien s The Hobbit,
the concepts of an unconventional hero are depicted in the views and actions of Bilbo Baggins.
Bilbo Baggins depicts these concepts through his reluctance to join an adventure, his reliance on wit

In this way Bilbo stands out as more relatable compared to more traditional heroes of the time

actions throughout the story. Bilbo s reluctance to adventure outside his home is an example of
Bilbo s unconventional actions as a hero.
In the beginning of J.R.R. Tolkien s story, Bilbo is offered to join Gandalf, a mysterious wizard,
on an adventure through Middle Earth. Gandalf visits Bilbo s home uninvited. Bilbo adamantly
declines Gandalf s offer by saying Sorry! I don t want any adventures, thank you. Not today. Good

The East India Company
The East India Company was a British joint stock company establish on the 31st of December,
1600 under the original name The Company of Merchants of London trading into the East Indies.
Over the next hundreds of years the Company set a sail attempting to find riches in trade on their
journeys to these new lands. They found value in crops such as indigo, salt, cotton, silk, opium
and other cash crops that the barren land of Europe lacked. This would be the company that would
set sail to the land of Indiaand dominate its soil from the middle of 1700 s to the middle of the 1800
s. In a little over fifty years the East India Companywas transformed from a body of traders
controlling a scattered group of commercial settlements round the coasts of India into the rulers of
provinces with a population popularly supposed in Britain to contain fifty or sixty million
inhabitants. The Company was able to find its growth and power from wealthy merchants and
aristocrats that would invest their money into the Company after seeing how successful they were
becoming. A healthy amount of these wealthy investors were part of the British Parliament. This
intertwined government views and beliefs with the business side of views and beliefs. With more
and more backing though, the Company slowly grew a ship or two every now and then until they
were a full fleet of trade ships moving massive amounts of crops. Colonies were eventually set up
and the land was taken for the new Englishmen, who

Family Functionalism
Finally, in The Concepts of the Family Dynamic, Ruth Wienclaw evaluates the Structural
Functionalist attitude toward the social problem of divorce. Structural Functionalism is the
paradigm that describes social problems as parts of life which are necessary to maintain balance. As
Wienclaw writes, structural functionalists see divorceas a challenge, supporters of the conflict
theory find that divorce is the result of contradictory opinions of people in the family, and symbolic
interactionists think divorce or different types of families are a product of modern outlooks
surrounding the family (Wienclaw, 2014). She also addresses the shortcomings of the functionalist

Since I started this paper without a specific, for or against argument on the matter, I have gained
more knowledge about how exactly divorce affects the family. However, my position on this
social problem has not wavered very much. While I do agree with most of the scholars that
addressed the issues surrounding divorce and how they affect children and single parents, I could
not find many arguments that undeniably agreed with the notion that divorce could have positive
effects. Although, a persuasive argument that was introduced was that relationships that are
unhealthy could be ended with the help of divorce. More than one of the resources stressed the
importance of more research into if divorce was the only cause of single parent household
hardships and evaluating whether there were more positive effects of divorce since less research
on this subject has been done in comparison to the negative effects of divorce. I recognize that I
am speaking about a fraction of the problem and that other issues under this topic need to be
addressed. In other words, it is imperative that all facets of divorce be investigated in order to truly

We also need to take into consideration that by injecting more money to the economy, it will
decrease the exchange rate and as a result it will depreciate the U.S. dollar.
In conclusion, I think that China should change its policy because it is damaging not only the U.S.
economy but the economy globally. Countries such as the United States are still recovering from
the economic recession we are still leaving in. It is obvious that if China let the Yuan appreciate
their exports will decrease and imports will increase making their trade surplus to decrease. If this
happens international countries will be grateful because by this happening means that their export
will increase and employment will increase. Countries should avoid doing currency manipulation or
artificially devaluing their currency because it just hurts the global economy and it promotes other
countries to do the same it hurts everyone.

Essay On Discipline
Discipline According to Sailor (2010), Discipline comes from the Latin word disciplina, meaning
instruction or teaching to correct, strengthen, or perfect. The article talks about discipline and
punishment in the education system, whereas parents and some teachers view discipline as a
punishment while educators view it as a teaching strategy that can exclude punishment. As it stated
by Hogan (2012), True discipline, however, comes from within the child. Therefore, parents and
teachers are aware that discipline is not through punishment, but through (1) guidance and teaching,
(2) experiencing freedom, and (3) experiencing the natural consequences to his actions.

There is no freedom when discipline is there, especially with the fact that physical discipline is
strongly used by the Samoan teachers. Samoan students are afraid to do anything on their own
because they have to obey what the teacher said. Hogan (2012) stated that, This level of discipline
cannot be achieved through commands and orders, but through experiencing freedom. The students
have to experience freedom in order for them to learn how to behave instead of punishment that can
lead to something else such as death or violence in the classroom.
The importance of freedom in the classroom is that, students get to experience what is right and
what is wrong on their own (will they do it again or not?), develop themselves physically, learning
how to control themselves, and mentally and emotionally, as they practice to think of themselves.
For example, instead of getting told to think about something in a certain time, the students can
think as long as they want about the topic.

Good Morning and Welcome Year 11 students to the Poetry Seminar. My name is Will and I am

belonging, two important figurative devices within the poem and an extrapolation of the taught

belonging. The poem Drifters represents belonging by the family not being able to settle as they
keep on moving houses and communities. Belonging to a place is linked to belonging in a
family. Everyone in this family is affected by the father s decision to relocate. To belong in this
family, movement is required, despite individual desires. Family members often have to
compromise or sacrifice what they want in order to belong in their family. Some members request
to establish a permanent sense of home while others don t. This is shown in the opposite opinions
of moving within the family based on how they fitted in the town they were living in for example

What painting is more formidable, and describes the most powerful representational art of young

were they wearing similar dresses? Were they wearing a uniform? Why were they not smiling?
When and how was the painting created? Why was the painting created? What meaning was
behind this painting? Sargent was a friend of Boit and therefore creating a painting 1882; which is
221.93 x 222. 57 cm painted oil on canvas, conveying the message of Boit s four daughters who
were completely unique and beautiful in their own way. Sargent uses techniques such as Unity,
Variety, Emphasis, Subordination, Balance, Contrast and Forces to bring a realistic painting of
these four sisters.
Sargent s painting portrays a typical household setting. Four daughters are present in the room along
with some furniture and other objects found in a typical wealthy family. These objects include a
carpet, a doll in the youngest daughters hand, mirror, and many antique vases. Looking at the
painting, one can conclude that three of the four daughters are very receptive towards the artist, and
are giving their full attention. However, the other daughter, the one leaning towards a big antique
vase, seems upset. She may be shy and does not want the painter to see her face. The most impactful

The Importance Of Poverty In Education

Where there is no struggle, there is no strength. Oprah Winfrey Oprah Winfrey displays a
common occurrence of struggle in the everyday life of each individual across the world. Struggle
is a universal obstacle everyone faces some more than others. While struggling may bring strength
to some, the hardship can take a toll on others. People all across America face some type of
struggle whether it be clearly seen or hidden underneath the surface. One of the main struggles that
children in America face today is poverty. Living in poverty can not only be detrimental to them
everyday, but to their future. Throughout history we have tried to redress this issue several ways.
Rather than providing them with handed out resources, people need to give poverty stricken
children the tools to create a better life for themselves. Childhood poverty in the United States can
be ameliorated through education. 51% of children in the United States are in poverty.(Huffington

The Force Awakens Return In Episode VIII !
Luke Skywalker isn t the only major The Force Awakens character who will be returning in
Episode VIII!
There is no doubt that Daisy Ridley and John Boyega will appear in the next two films of the
new Star Wars trilogy. After all, they are playing the two lead roles in Episode VII. However, it
has recently been confirmed that Mark Hamill s mysterious Jedi will also be coming back in the
Rian Johnson directed sequel, where he might possibly have more interactions with Rey and Finn.
Now, it looks like one baddie is guaranteed to return in Episode VIII. In a recent interview with The
L.A. Times, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has just admitted that Gwendoline Christie s
chrome armored Captain Phasma is coming back in the sequel. ... Show more content on

It is also believed that Carrie Fisher, who plays Alderaan princess turned Resistance general Leia
Organa Solo, will reprise her role in Episode VIII and Episode IX.
And it looks like the presence of strong women in the future Star Wars films may not just be in the
characters. In addition to having Gwendoline Christie and Daisy Ridley in Episode VIII, there
could be more women working behind the scenes.
The L.A. Times also reported about Women in Filmand the Sundance Institute holding a summit to
talk about Hollywood s gender inequality. The report confirms that an agent named Adriana
Alberghetti managed to get meetings with Star Wars for four of her female directors and three
female writers.
Although the identities of the directors and writers were not revealed, it may only be a matter of
time before the world will see a woman directing a major Star Wars

Creative Industries And The Creative Industry
As an ever evolving concept, the creative industries as as hard to define as creativity itself.
Academia is struggling to keep up with the growing global interest in these ideas. (De
Beukelaer, 2015) A creative industry is defined as unpredictability, rapid shift in trends and
fashions (Lee, 2015, p. 141). Products that are innovative and novel, satisfying the rapidly
changing needs and demands of a globalized society. (Lee, 2015) Lee (2015) identified two
common strands of creative industry research. The first focuses on the development of creative
industries and the second on place promotion : using arts and culture to promote or rejuvenate
urban areas. (Lee, 2015) The know why, know how, know who, know when and know from (Lee,
2015) are critical to development within the creative industries. The constant demand for
innovative products creates a need for a centralized knowledge bases among the firms and
freelancers of the creative industries. Access to this base, providing information on job
opportunities, new commodities and methods and new collaborators is critical for maintaining a
competitive advantage. (Lee, 2015) There are three key concepts that facilitate the sharing of said
knowledge: clusters, buzz and degree of commonality. (Lee, 2015) This knowledge is transferred
primarily through face to face interactions and the individuals sharing information are referred to as
actors. (Lee, 2015) A large amount of literature focuses on the importance of physical

African American And The Caribbean
BLACKS IN AMERICAN AND THE CARIBBEAN
Ariel Holder
SOCL 141
Dr. Danielle James
Caribbean people view race differently than African Americans. Caribbean immigrants who arrive
to the United States are often shell shocked by the tangible presence of racism there. What is all
the more surprising is that some of these tensions are more so perpetuated by African Americans.
Before an immigrant can experience the American dream , a life of joys and hardship, they are
adequately discouraged, or warned to reconsider moving to America. They are warned that success
will most certainly be harder for them. Warned that things are different here and that the color of

Nationality, maybe; but not race. They never faced the outright hatred that African Americanor
Blacks in America face, which makes Islanders view themselves in a different way. It is most
likely, socioeconomic class separates that the Caribbean nation. On the other hand, African
Americans have intense and often times unnecessary sense of racial awareness. There are some
things that both groups can relate to as Black people and yet there are many more things that sets
them apart.
What sets African Americans and Islanders apart is indeed their history, which is why we are so
different. I would like to start at the beginning on what first shaped these two groups. Many can
trace of the groups heritage of the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade back to Africa or other countries such
as India, Asian (indentured servants); however Caribbean people have mainly held onto that
heritage, mostly for cultural aspects of ancestry rather for racial heritage. And many islands still
practice this culture today. It is seen in the way we speak (a fusion of African language with other
languages, creole, patois, Portuguese and numerous dialects), in our holidays, and festivities.
Slaves that survived the voyage from Africa were sold to various places, several islands within the

Marsha Mouse Case Summary
In Marsha Mouse s case, therefore, it is necessary to determine whether the cost of installing an
elevator is a medical care. In C.L. Hayne Est. 22 TC 113, Dec. 20,288, a decedent was suffering
from a cerebral hemorrhage which caused complete paralysis of the left side of his body. Upon
the doctor s advice, an elevator was installed at his home from the first story to the second story.
The U.S. Tax Court denied the cost associated with an elevator as a medical expense deduction.
As per Court, under section 213, the use of the elevator was primarily to solve a transportation
issue to take the decedent to the lawn of his home. The elevator was not installed to mitigate or
cure of the paralytic condition of the decedent. Based on this case, Marsha Mouse may not deduct
any of the costs associated with the elevator as a medical expense. The reason is that primary use
of an elevator is to get around her home. However, there is no beneficial effect on her... Show more

for the prevention or mitigation of the osteo arthritis disease instead of solving transportation

Book Review Essay
Achieving success, whether it is in a personal, social, or professional setting, is often the end goal
of most human efforts. Most of the time, acquiring that success requires hard work, perseverance,
and dedication. Yet it is often difficult to maintain the continual motivation needed to overcome the
frequent obstacles and setbacks that litter the road to success. C.P Neck s and C. Manz s book,
Mastering Self Leadership: Empowering Yourself for Personal Excellence, explores strategies and
tools to strengthen the key attribute that provides sustenance for an individual s motivation, self
leadership. The tools encompass ideas such as world altering strategies, natural reward system, and
positive thinking. While each is a different, unique... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the author s shifted focus to psychologically driven concepts, such as mental and thought
patterns, the strategies shifted from creating a positive environment to overcoming obstacles. One
of the first steps in overcoming an obstacle was to visualize the achievement, to create an imagined
experience . Envisioning success bolsters a person s morale and provides a renewed vigor with
which to attack the obstacle.
Although the text focused on self leadership, the authors did discuss how self leadership is
directly tied into the success of teams. The same strategies, which improve self leadership in
oneself, can be extrapolated for a team: removal of negative cues, goal setting, strong team beliefs
and team mental imagery are a few examples. However, in order to ensure the success of the team,
there must be a balance of me and we , meaning that while individualistic goals must be set and
followed, they must coincide with team goals and neither should outweigh the other. The
importance of fitness to self image and self leadership was the penultimate strategy discussed in the
text. Studies illustrated the benefits of fitness resulting in improved job performance and
professional satisfaction. Lastly, the text discussed the importance of life factors such as happiness,
emotional satisfaction, and social responsibility to self leadership. Different personality types

transport of crude oil by rail will require updated regulations to ensure the safety of lives and
property, a topic that will likely be a key issue in the coming months due to pending legislative
and regulatory activity. In 2013, railroads originated more than 400,000 carloads of crude oil, or
about 800,000 barrels per day, which represents a 42 fold increase from 2008. This trend is
expected to continue as domestic production of shale oil grows, since rail offers a convenient
method of transportation to refineries from these newer production sites that are not well served by
existing pipeline infrastructure. Accompanying this growth is an increasing number of incidents
and amount of property damage, setting records the past three years. Many of the laws and
regulations regarding the shipment of crude oil were created before this rapid increase, and are
inadequate for the unforeseen boom in transporting oil by rail. This document provides an overview
of major policy issues and recommendations on this topic gathered from

This study evaluated offspring exposure to depression and anxiety during gestation and how
these disorders effected their behavioral and emotional development from mid to early
childhood (Les, J., Heron, J., Stuart, E., Mendelson, T., 2013). The study used The Avon
Longitudes Study of Parents and children, which evaluated a cohort of 14, 541 pregnancies and
13,988 live children. Women ranged between the ages of 16 to 40 years of age, with the mean
age at 29.1(SD 4.4). The participants consisted of mostly (98.9%) married (83.55), white (98.9%)
women, with an average gestation of 39.5 weeks (SD=1.7) and the mean birth weight of offspring

Background
Cessna 172 Skyhawk
Research and data for this report were acquired using the Cessna 172 Skyhawk aircraft and Frasca
manufactured Level 6 flight training device (FTD). The Cessna 172S is a single engine, prop
driven general aviation aircraft most commonly used for training purposes. With a three seat
training configuration, high wing design, and fixed, tricycle type landing gear, this aircraft was
optimally equipped for the student pilot. Similar to the actual aircraft, the Level 6 FTD must have
aerodynamic programming, operating systems, and control loading congruent to that of the Cessna.
Other notable qualities include physical controls, switches, and knobs as well as significant sound
resemblance.

The Hungry King George Chapter Summary
The story, The Hungry, Hungry King George represents a brief summary of the events that led up
to the American Revolutionary War. After the Seven Years Was (also known as the French and
Indian War) King George III needed a significant amount of money as he was in debt. This idea is
depicted in the story as his ongoing hunger, or need to pay this debt, that cannot be satisfied.
Throughout the story, the phrase But, he was still hungry is continuously repeated to demonstrate
the amount of taxes and restraints that were placed on the colonist under the rule of King George
III. This can also be discerned from the illustrations in the book. There are two major aspects that
signify this: the increasing amount of King George s gold and his expanding waistline. King

For example, the Boston Massacre, where five colonists were killed by British soldiers after the
colonist started throwing snowballs at the soldiers, was left out (Holguin). In addition, the battles
of the war, such as the Battle of Concord or the critical Battle of Saratoga, were not included, but
can be surmised, to keep the story concise and to hold the attention of the younger readers
(Holguin). Although it can be inferred, The Hungry, Hungry King George did not directly identify
how the colonist retaliated, through boycotts and other events, against the King and the British
Parliament before the war occurred. One example of this is displayed through the Colonist s
Boston Tea Party where they dressed up as Native Americans and dumped 18 thousand pounds of
Tea into the Boston Harbor (Independence Hall Association). It is also important to note that this
story can be a highly subjective view as it is from the perspective of the colonist only and excludes
other major viewpoints of the war/(altercations between the colonies and the

Phaedo Research Paper
Phaedo One of the final discussions that Socrates goes of is the journey people take after death.
When Socrates takes on this philosophical topic it leads into the description of the soul. In the
book, Plato Five Dialogues, translated by G. M. A Grube, Phaedo gives an account of this
discussion. Now the question that we want to discuss is, what is the soul according to the
Phaedo ? What makes this a hard question is that Socrates never directly answers this question.
Although, according to the account that the Phaedo provides, this paper will argue that the soul
is the source/essence of true knowledge. To show this, we will go over three different ideas. First
we will go over how the soul and the body are separate. Second we will go over... Show more

The reason that this is important is because it shows that the soul has all pure knowledge and
when we are born we just forget it until something reminds us of that piece of knowledge.
Socrates explains this by using an example of seeing something that reminds a person of a
different thing. The example that Socrates uses is the example of sticks and stones. One person
may think that a stick or stone look equal, but another person may view them as unequal. This is
important because the sticks and stones may not be equal, but we are reminded of equality even
though there is no equality we have the idea of the true form of equality. Phaedo states, We must
then possess knowledge of the Equal before that time when we first saw the equal objects and
realized that all these objects strive to be like the equal but are deficient in this (Pg. 113). Socrates
explains that this knowledge had to come from somewhere and it must have been in a past life.
These arguments show us that that Socrates thought that the soul is the source or essence of true
knowledge. Even though Socrates does not directly answer the question of what the soul is we can
see that he considers the soul is the source or essence of true

Postnatal Care
Barriers to providing care from a midwife s point of view and staff qualities
Midwives felt there were many barriers to care provision. The key findings were limited
flexibility, length of hospital stay, structured care, inadequate midwife to woman ratios and the
busyness of postnatal wards (Rayner 2009 b; McLachlan, 2006, Fenwick, 2009, brown 2005).
They said that too much paperwork associated with admissions and discharges were a major
barrier as well (Schmied, 2007) and that they felt staff levels needed to increase considering the
intensive postnatal care required over 2 3 days, especially in areas such as breastfeeding (ranyer
2009 b). Many of these factors are outside of the midwives control but subsequently affect the time
spent with the woman (Rayner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Midwives felt there was a contradiction between what was expected of them. They are meant to be
flexible in the care they provide but also follow guidelines and protocols of the hospital (Schmied,
2007). Generally midwives are perceived as being friendly, approachable and encouraging
postnatally but they are simultaneously identify them to be busy, rushed and difficult to contact (
Fenwick, 2009, p20; Brown, 2005; McLacklan, 2006).
Emotional and physical wellbeing (Mclellan, Fenwick. McKellar, 2005)
Pregnancy is a time where women leave behind their comfortable, controlled lives where they
were experts and antenatally the woman is the focus of care. During the early postnatal period,
the woman enters a new time where she is faced with the unknown world of motherhood and her
identity changes with the new role. It is an acute change overnight and can be a time of great
stress where often parents do not feel prepared (Mckellar, 2005). There is a shift of focus that is
now a baby and requires attention and is wholly dependent on the mother. Often this can be scary
and overwhelming with women feeling extremely tired but also excited. However eventually with
support and practice,

Stronger Background Checks
More than 30 people are shot and murdered each day. Gun Control is becoming a huge problem in
the U.S.. Numerous people have died due to terrorist and criminals who have guns. The rise of gun
casualties has created a debate on whether or not you are allowed to own a gun. The amount of
restrictions on owning a gunhas recently made it hard to get a gun. If no one is able to have a
gun, then people will not be able to protect themselves. There needs to be a limit on the amount of
gun laws, however there needs to be stricter background checks so that criminals can not get guns
easily. Limiting gun laws and creating stronger background checks will decrease the amount of
deaths and make it harder for criminals to own guns. Dozens of suspected... Show more content on

Over the past couple of years, being able to access a gun has been too easy for criminals. They
have been able to easily pass background checks. This is why there needs to be stronger
background checks to protect people from criminals. Also, gun laws do not need to be too
strong so that no one can protect themselves. In 2002 at the Appalachian School of Law [in
Grundy, Virginia]. Hearing shots, two students went to their cars, got their guns and restrained
the shooter until police arrested him (Guns Save Lives). This is an example of why having guns
could help. If there were laws that prevented these 2 students to own guns, the whole situation
could have been worse. There could have been more deaths but instead, since they had guns,
they were able to control the situation and protect themselves. Lastly, Americans have always
had the right to bear arms. The right to bear arms has been a long American tradition. From the
time the colonists settled on North American soil, Americans have held weapons to protect
themselves (The History of the Right to Bear Arms). If there were always laws then America
would not have been America. Changing this would just lead more people to be mad and cause
more problems. It will be better off if the laws remain the same. Limiting the amount of gun laws
will allow people to own a gun and protect themselves and having stricter background checks will
make it harder for a criminal to acquire a

The Evolution Of Dance, The Italian Renaissance, And The...
The body says what words cannot (Martha Graham). This quote helps explain how the body can
move in ways to help explain cultures and events that have happened. The body can move in
ways to show emotion that people are sometimes unable to explain with words. Different styles of
dance have evolved dramatically over the years and can even be used in the modern world as a
profession.
Dance has been affected by many events including religious rituals that helped form the art of
dance, the Italian Renaissance, and the French Revolution. Dance was originally reserved for
religious rituals in ancient civilizations ( Dance 1). Dance was used in the religions: Judaism,
Christianity, and Islamic. In ancient Egypt, different cultures would use dance to perform for their
peers in ceremonies. Dance spread throughout Europe and soon became a common activity in
many European countries. Dance also played a part in Greek and Roman society. Dance was used
for religious purposes and was also demonstrated in ceremonies. Dancing commemorated the
changing of the seasons, life and death, social solidarity, and the connection between humanity and
the unseen powers that affected human existence ( Overview of Dance 2). Dance would also be
used in the Greek society to honor a god or an important individual. Ballet can be dated all the way
back to the Italian Renaissance. In the fifteenth century, ballet was demonstrated during the courts
of Italy. Ballet was not made to be performed in front of

United States Health Care System
TITLE OF PAPER
For many years the condition of the United States health care system has been a hot topic for
debate. Some would like to believe that the U.S has the best health care system in the world, but
unfortunately that may not be the truth. In 2000 The World Health Organization (WHO) released a
world health report. The report ranked the overall health system performance of 191 countries; the
United States was ranked at 37 out of the 191. With out of control costs, highly inequitable
coverage and comparatively low health outcomes, the US healthcare system has failed to provide
efficient, dependable coverage for the population as a whole as compared to most European and

citizens that a new plan to reform health care had to be devised.
On March 23, 2010 congress approved and President Obama signed The Patient Protection and
Affordable Care Act (PPACA) into law. The PPACA is more commonly known as just the
Affordable Care Act (ACA) or negatively as Obamacare. In order for the ACA to be passed, the
President had to appease the different political parties. As a result, the ACA is not entirely an
original idea. Some of the main provisions already had the support of various political parties,
because they had been introduced by past presidents and political parties in their health reform
plans over the past few decades. Some examples include: both Nixon and Carter had employer
mandates; Bush had a version of the individual mandate, both Bush and Clinton proposed similar
ideas to the insurance marketplace, among a few others. The ACA is similar to universal health care;
the objective is to ensure that the US citizens have access to affordable quality healthcare, instead
of a free market for all like in other countries it is still for profit. The Affordable Care Act increases
access to care, makes health insurance more affordable, strengthens Medicare and ensures that
Americans have more rights and protections (U.S. Department of

Steps Of The Plan Do Check Act ( Pdca ) Cycle
PDCA Outline
Plan
The first step of the Plan Do Check Act (PDCA) cycle is plan. The planning step of the cycle is
extremely important and crucial to the success of the project. I undertook this exact issue as a
process improvement project early on in my career and already went through the exercise of
analyzing the account activity and assigning a risk score to each and every balance sheet account. At
the time, there were 854 individual balance sheet accounts that needed reconciled. Currently this
count has grown to 1,047, which means that an additional 193 accounts would need analyzed. The
plan for this project now needs to consist of cursory review of the previously assigned accounts
and a more in depth analysis of the additional 193 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is no reason to waste resources reconciling an account that is no longer being used. The next
step of 5S that is beneficial to the process is straightening. The accounts should be straightened into
broader categories, rather than looking that them individually, which saves time and is more
efficient. For instance, all cash accounts should be grouped and analyzed together, as they will be
handled the same. The work is not done when the sorting and straightening has been completed,
nonetheless. The newly sorted and straightened list should continue to be shined, another step of
5S, on a routine basis to make sure there are no changes. As previously mentioned, the controller
reserves the right to adjust the reconciliation priority at any time. New accounts are likely to be
created that will need sorted and straightened and other accounts will also go inactive. 5S is an
ongoing process and the sustainability is one of the S s. The final S stands for standardize. The
account reconciliation process should be standardized. Standardization and uniformity in the
reconciliation process and the reconciliation work papers add to the quality of the review. It is
much easier for a reviewer or auditor to check reconciliations that are prepared in a consistent
fashion.
Do
The Do step of the PDCA cycle is where the action of the project really happens. The new
reconciliation schedule is implemented during this stage. As previously mentioned some accounts
will continue to be

  • 4. Relationship Between The And The Senate Relationship with the Senate: At this point, Octavius practically ruled all of Rome and its assets with the support of his military. Octavius now had only to gain the affection and trust of the people, so he masked his great power by establishing a new system of government while maintaining Roman traditions and befriending the Senate. On the other hand, the Senate had grown accustomed to, and benefited from, having Octavius in command, and the fact that the government system of the old Republic had crumbled in failure gave the Senate a reason to keep Octavius in office. Octavius knew that his rise to absolute power would be delivered to him gradually and that, in order to fully and effectively implement his complex plans into Roman society, a continuous office as Proconsul would not be sufficient. With this in mind, Octavius proceeded methodically and with tact. He justified any of his actions by claiming that it was for the greater good of the Republic of Rome so that no one would see fit to usurp his power, whether that be by legal means or by assassination. He promised that he would bring back the customs of Rome s ancestors, and in January 27 B.C., he announced that he would be returning humbly his power over Rome back to the Senate and the people of Rome. Although he had just sacrificed a significant amount of power, Augustus knew that he still had the back up support of soldiers and war veterans if the situation turned dire. Civilization 003 4 May 2016 Modern Metropolis Modernity is a new era in which humans began to think about themselves, and started changing from old traditions like religious influences to their own culture of radical new ideas. This era is full of rational humanistic ideas and increased the opportunities for people to go after their interests in life. Modernity is kind of like the days Americans live today with freedom to be who you think is right. People began trying to voice their opinions to higher authority, and eventually society picked up on giving what mankind deserved. For example, many people in the modern era tried to fight for their natural rights, and also some women requested for some recognition with rights like men. In the film, Metropolis, by Fritz Lang, there are various elements of modernity. Mr. Fredersen, who was the owner of Metropolis city, was very selfish and greedy for production that led to increase in revenues. He was married to Hel, who died giving birth to Freder. Rotwang was attracted to Hel, also a scientist, inventor, and kind of insane. He now hates Mr. Fredersen and his son for all the reasons he wasn t able to receive love from Hel. Confucianism focuses on the community, looking at political philosophies to ensure social harmony. Daoism focuses on the health of the body and harmony with the natural environment. Modern Chinese scholars trace the origin of these two philosophies to the ancient belief of the the Yi Jing; the two opposing forces that control the Universe. The universe must be in balance and any extreme action in one direction will produce an imbalance in the system. The creative alternation between the forces of yin and yang is called dao way. (Daoism and Confucianism). origins of confucianism After witnessing his world in a turmoil, Chinese philosopher Kong Qui (Confucius) believed that his society had devolved because of its abuse of ritual (religious practices) and music. What Is The Critique Of The Da Vinci Code Conspiracy of the Millenium: The Da Vinci Code Dan Brown s famous novel, The Da Vinci Code created a lot of controversy regarding Christianity after being published in 2003. What makes this novel so controversial is that Brown tells a story about a museum curator with a secret pact, a historian, a cryptologist and how the church has kept the truth about Mary Magdalene and Jesus. Brown s claims about the existence of a secret society called the Priori of Sions whose members include Isaac Newton, Botticelli, Victor Hugo and even Da Vinci himself and their possession of the Holy Grail, an arrangement of documents that reveals the real relationship between Jesus and Mary Magdalene and the existence of a daughter between the two of them. As a member of this cult, some of Da Vinci s most famous paintings include secret messages and information that only members of the cult were able to decipher, leading to conspiracies that involve the Clergy and their secrets. One of Da Vinci s pieces, The Last Supper is used as evidence to prove his involvement in the secret sect. The Last Supper practically shouts at the viewer that Jesus and Magdalene were a pair (Brown 244). The Priory of Sion is referred as to have known the true nature of this relationship and having worshiping her as a symbol of sacred femininity and power. The Priory of Sion, to this day, still worships Mary Magdalene as the Goddess, the Holy Grail, the Rose and the Divine Mother (Brown 255). The fact that the Priory of Sion, an important organization involved with Christian secrets and documents considered her as a Goddess suggests the true importance of this woman. Napoleon faced an Austrian Army of 200,000, Russian Army of over 150,000, a Prussian Army of over 100,000, and British Army of over 100,000 which out numbered the 200,000 he could muster. The French Commander decided to implement a strategy to divide and attack each army individually in order to defeat their will. Napoleon believed the Allied Forces would lose resolve if separated and not come to the aid of another country.2 Napoleon s assessment proved accurate as the Austrian and Russian Army s did not arrive in time to be relevant, and he was able to split the British and Prussian forces in Belgium. At the Battle of Ligny, on June 16th, 1815 Napolean was able to defeat the Prussian Army commanded by General Gebhard von Blucher; however, he was unable to destroy them. • 10. The Latino Culture The Latino culture takes a more monistic approach to the mind body problem. This may affect the ways in which depression is experienced and expressed. For example, studies have found that Latinos are more likely to express psychological distress in somatic terms such as lack of energy, sleep disturbances, and body aches (Martinez Tyson, Castaneda, Porter, Quiroz, Carrion, 2011). Additionally, studies find that Latinos are more likely to take a holistic approach to healing as evidenced by the principle of mente sana en cuerpo sano y alma sana (healthy mind in healthy body and healthy soul) which communicates the strong connection between mind, body, and soul (Comas Diaz, 2006). This suggests that a purely physical approach to therapy may not be well received by the Latino client, and is supported by studies showing Latino patients feel apprehensive towards being treated with anti depressants even when they have positive attitudes towards receiving treatment for depression(Cabassa, Lester, Zayas, 2007). Understanding the client s perception of the self is important in diagnosing and treating depression. There are mainly two research approaches, inductive and deductive by looking to the research onion of Saunders et al (2009, p. 108). In inductive approach, researchers use their findings for the generation of theory. Theory is a term which can be use in different ways and in qualitative research researcher use this term about the explanation of observations. Inductive approach allows the researcher in previous literature and finds the new research question, where he comes up with the new theory after the analyzing. While deductive studies, use theory deductively and places it in the very beginning of the study. • 13. Second Marshmallow Experiment Analysis The famous marshmallow test analyzes children at the age of four to see if they can resist the temptation of a marshmallow right in front of them for an entire fifteen minutes, and if they could, a second marshmallow would be a reward for their patience. If the child was unable to resist, eating the marshmallow was an option, but a second marshmallow would not be rewarded. This experiment was first conducted by a Stanford University Professor, Walter Mischel, in the late nineteen sixties. Walter was curious if cultural differences would be a factor in the waiting time so he also performed a variation of the marshmallow experiment with two distinctly different ethnic groups; the East Indians and the Africans. The East Indians believed in preparing for the future and the Africans believed you should live in the moment and enjoy every second of life. A small candy bar was offered for them to eat immediately, or they could wait a few days to have a bigger candy bar. In this particular experiment, he found that cultural differences had little effect to whether someone waited for a candy bar or not. Mischel came to the conclusion that it wasn t necessarily a certain amount of intelligence that gave a child the power to resist the marshmallow, it is self control. The wavelength to begin measuring from was based on two factors, the fact that the plastic UV cells that were being used absorbed light up to 320nm, and that the molecule needed to absorb light very strongly, and needed to be seen clearly on the graph. Thus, reading the graph provided in the lab manual[1], it could be seen that there was a peak at around ~450nm which would easily be able to be seen without interference from the plastic cells. In the sample measured from the stock solution, the peak occurred at a wavelength of 523.52nm and reached a peak of 115.52. The excitation spectrum was then measured on the same graph. The wavelength at which the peak occurred on the fluorescence spectrum was entered into the program, and a scan range from 350nm to 800nm was used. • 32. Family Functionalism Finally, in The Concepts of the Family Dynamic, Ruth Wienclaw evaluates the Structural Functionalist attitude toward the social problem of divorce. Structural Functionalism is the paradigm that describes social problems as parts of life which are necessary to maintain balance. As Wienclaw writes, structural functionalists see divorceas a challenge, supporters of the conflict theory find that divorce is the result of contradictory opinions of people in the family, and symbolic interactionists think divorce or different types of families are a product of modern outlooks surrounding the family (Wienclaw, 2014). She also addresses the shortcomings of the functionalist theory by pointing out that it does not call attention to the issue of abuse... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since I started this paper without a specific, for or against argument on the matter, I have gained more knowledge about how exactly divorce affects the family. However, my position on this social problem has not wavered very much. While I do agree with most of the scholars that addressed the issues surrounding divorce and how they affect children and single parents, I could not find many arguments that undeniably agreed with the notion that divorce could have positive effects. Although, a persuasive argument that was introduced was that relationships that are unhealthy could be ended with the help of divorce. More than one of the resources stressed the importance of more research into if divorce was the only cause of single parent household hardships and evaluating whether there were more positive effects of divorce since less research on this subject has been done in comparison to the negative effects of divorce. I recognize that I am speaking about a fraction of the problem and that other issues under this topic need to be addressed. In conclusion, I think that China should change its policy because it is damaging not only the U.S. economy but the economy globally. Countries such as the United States are still recovering from the economic recession we are still leaving in. It is obvious that if China let the Yuan appreciate their exports will decrease and imports will increase making their trade surplus to decrease. If this happens international countries will be grateful because by this happening means that their export will increase and employment will increase. • 34. Essay On Discipline Discipline According to Sailor (2010), Discipline comes from the Latin word disciplina, meaning instruction or teaching to correct, strengthen, or perfect. The article talks about discipline and punishment in the education system, whereas parents and some teachers view discipline as a punishment while educators view it as a teaching strategy that can exclude punishment. As it stated by Hogan (2012), True discipline, however, comes from within the child. Therefore, parents and teachers are aware that discipline is not through punishment, but through (1) guidance and teaching, (2) experiencing freedom, and (3) experiencing the natural consequences to his actions. The students have to experience freedom in order for them to learn how to behave instead of punishment that can lead to something else such as death or violence in the classroom. The importance of freedom in the classroom is that, students get to experience what is right and what is wrong on their own (will they do it again or not?), develop themselves physically, learning how to control themselves, and mentally and emotionally, as they practice to think of themselves. Firstly, how the poem relates to belonging. The poem Drifters represents belonging by the family not being able to settle as they keep on moving houses and communities. Belonging to a place is linked to belonging in a family. Everyone in this family is affected by the father s decision to relocate. To belong in this family, movement is required, despite individual desires. Family members often have to compromise or sacrifice what they want in order to belong in their family. • 51. Phaedo Research Paper Phaedo One of the final discussions that Socrates goes of is the journey people take after death. When Socrates takes on this philosophical topic it leads into the description of the soul. In the book, Plato Five Dialogues, translated by G. M. A Grube, Phaedo gives an account of this discussion. Now the question that we want to discuss is, what is the soul according to the Phaedo ? What makes this a hard question is that Socrates never directly answers this question. Although, according to the account that the Phaedo provides, this paper will argue that the soul is the source/essence of true knowledge. To show this, we will go over three different ideas. First we will go over how the soul and the body are separate. Second we will go over... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason that this is important is because it shows that the soul has all pure knowledge and when we are born we just forget it until something reminds us of that piece of knowledge. Socrates explains this by using an example of seeing something that reminds a person of a different thing. The example that Socrates uses is the example of sticks and stones. One person may think that a stick or stone look equal, but another person may view them as unequal. This is important because the sticks and stones may not be equal, but we are reminded of equality even though there is no equality we have the idea of the true form of equality. Phaedo states, We must then possess knowledge of the Equal before that time when we first saw the equal objects and realized that all these objects strive to be like the equal but are deficient in this (Pg. 113). Socrates explains that this knowledge had to come from somewhere and it must have been in a past life. These arguments show us that that Socrates thought that the soul is the source or essence of true knowledge. Even though Socrates does not directly answer the question of what the soul is we can see that he considers the soul is the source or essence of true ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Postnatal Care Barriers to providing care from a midwife s point of view and staff qualities Midwives felt there were many barriers to care provision. The key findings were limited flexibility, length of hospital stay, structured care, inadequate midwife to woman ratios and the busyness of postnatal wards (Rayner 2009 b; McLachlan, 2006, Fenwick, 2009, brown 2005). They said that too much paperwork associated with admissions and discharges were a major barrier as well (Schmied, 2007) and that they felt staff levels needed to increase considering the intensive postnatal care required over 2 3 days, especially in areas such as breastfeeding (ranyer 2009 b). Many of these factors are outside of the midwives control but subsequently affect the time spent with the woman (Rayner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Midwives felt there was a contradiction between what was expected of them. They are meant to be flexible in the care they provide but also follow guidelines and protocols of the hospital (Schmied, 2007). Generally midwives are perceived as being friendly, approachable and encouraging postnatally but they are simultaneously identify them to be busy, rushed and difficult to contact ( Fenwick, 2009, p20; Brown, 2005; McLacklan, 2006). Emotional and physical wellbeing (Mclellan, Fenwick. McKellar, 2005) Pregnancy is a time where women leave behind their comfortable, controlled lives where they were experts and antenatally the woman is the focus of care. During the early postnatal period, the woman enters a new time where she is faced with the unknown world of motherhood and her identity changes with the new role. It is an acute change overnight and can be a time of great stress where often parents do not feel prepared (Mckellar, 2005). There is a shift of focus that is now a baby and requires attention and is wholly dependent on the mother. Often this can be scary and overwhelming with women feeling extremely tired but also excited. However eventually with support and practice, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Stronger Background Checks More than 30 people are shot and murdered each day. Gun Control is becoming a huge problem in the U.S.. Numerous people have died due to terrorist and criminals who have guns. The rise of gun casualties has created a debate on whether or not you are allowed to own a gun. The amount of restrictions on owning a gunhas recently made it hard to get a gun. If no one is able to have a gun, then people will not be able to protect themselves. There needs to be a limit on the amount of gun laws, however there needs to be stricter background checks so that criminals can not get guns easily. Limiting gun laws and creating stronger background checks will decrease the amount of deaths and make it harder for criminals to own guns. Dozens of suspected... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Over the past couple of years, being able to access a gun has been too easy for criminals. They have been able to easily pass background checks. This is why there needs to be stronger background checks to protect people from criminals. Also, gun laws do not need to be too strong so that no one can protect themselves. In 2002 at the Appalachian School of Law [in Grundy, Virginia]. Hearing shots, two students went to their cars, got their guns and restrained the shooter until police arrested him (Guns Save Lives). This is an example of why having guns could help. If there were laws that prevented these 2 students to own guns, the whole situation could have been worse. There could have been more deaths but instead, since they had guns, they were able to control the situation and protect themselves. Lastly, Americans have always had the right to bear arms. The right to bear arms has been a long American tradition. From the time the colonists settled on North American soil, Americans have held weapons to protect themselves (The History of the Right to Bear Arms). If there were always laws then America would not have been America. Changing this would just lead more people to be mad and cause more problems. It will be better off if the laws remain the same. Limiting the amount of gun laws will allow people to own a gun and protect themselves and having stricter background checks will make it harder for a criminal to acquire a ... This quote helps explain how the body can move in ways to help explain cultures and events that have happened. The body can move in ways to show emotion that people are sometimes unable to explain with words. Different styles of dance have evolved dramatically over the years and can even be used in the modern world as a profession. Dance has been affected by many events including religious rituals that helped form the art of dance, the Italian Renaissance, and the French Revolution. Dance was originally reserved for religious rituals in ancient civilizations ( Dance 1). Dance was used in the religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islamic. In ancient Egypt, different cultures would use dance to perform for their peers in ceremonies. Dance spread throughout Europe and soon became a common activity in many European countries. Dance also played a part in Greek and Roman society. Dance was used for religious purposes and was also demonstrated in ceremonies. Dancing commemorated the changing of the seasons, life and death, social solidarity, and the connection between humanity and the unseen powers that affected human existence ( Overview of Dance 2). • 55. United States Health Care System TITLE OF PAPER For many years the condition of the United States health care system has been a hot topic for debate. Some would like to believe that the U.S has the best health care system in the world, but unfortunately that may not be the truth. In 2000 The World Health Organization (WHO) released a world health report. The report ranked the overall health system performance of 191 countries; the United States was ranked at 37 out of the 191. With out of control costs, highly inequitable coverage and comparatively low health outcomes, the US healthcare system has failed to provide efficient, dependable coverage for the population as a whole as compared to most European and developed Asian systems (Blank, 2012). On March 23, 2010 congress approved and President Obama signed The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) into law. The PPACA is more commonly known as just the Affordable Care Act (ACA) or negatively as Obamacare. In order for the ACA to be passed, the President had to appease the different political parties. As a result, the ACA is not entirely an original idea. Some of the main provisions already had the support of various political parties, because they had been introduced by past presidents and political parties in their health reform plans over the past few decades. Some examples include: both Nixon and Carter had employer mandates; Bush had a version of the individual mandate, both Bush and Clinton proposed similar ideas to the insurance marketplace, among a few others. The ACA is similar to universal health care; the objective is to ensure that the US citizens have access to affordable quality healthcare, instead of a free market for all like in other countries it is still for profit. The Affordable Care Act increases access to care, makes health insurance more affordable, strengthens Medicare and ensures that Americans have more rights and protections (U.S. Department of ... • 56. Steps Of The Plan Do Check Act ( Pdca ) Cycle PDCA Outline Plan The first step of the Plan Do Check Act (PDCA) cycle is plan. The planning step of the cycle is extremely important and crucial to the success of the project. I undertook this exact issue as a process improvement project early on in my career and already went through the exercise of analyzing the account activity and assigning a risk score to each and every balance sheet account. At the time, there were 854 individual balance sheet accounts that needed reconciled. Currently this count has grown to 1,047, which means that an additional 193 accounts would need analyzed. The plan for this project now needs to consist of cursory review of the previously assigned accounts and a more in depth analysis of the additional 193 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is no reason to waste resources reconciling an account that is no longer being used. The next step of 5S that is beneficial to the process is straightening. The accounts should be straightened into broader categories, rather than looking that them individually, which saves time and is more efficient. For instance, all cash accounts should be grouped and analyzed together, as they will be handled the same. The work is not done when the sorting and straightening has been completed, nonetheless. The newly sorted and straightened list should continue to be shined, another step of 5S, on a routine basis to make sure there are no changes. As previously mentioned, the controller reserves the right to adjust the reconciliation priority at any time. New accounts are likely to be created that will need sorted and straightened and other accounts will also go inactive. 5S is an ongoing process and the sustainability is one of the S s. The final S stands for standardize. The account reconciliation process should be standardized. Standardization and uniformity in the reconciliation process and the reconciliation work papers add to the quality of the review. It is much easier for a reviewer or auditor to check reconciliations that are prepared in a consistent fashion. Do The Do step of the PDCA cycle is where the action of the project really happens. The new reconciliation schedule is implemented during this stage. As previously mentioned some accounts will continue to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
