RE: Crawford v. Washington
DATE: November 2, 2014
Petitioner Michael Crawford stabbed a man who allegedly tried to rape his wife, Sylvia. At his
trial, the State played for the jury Sylvia s tape recorded statement to the police describing the
stabbing, even though Crawford had no opportunity for cross examination. The State sought to
introduce a recorded statement that petitioner s wife Sylvia had made during police interrogation,
as evidence that the stabbing was not in self defense. Sylvia did not testify at trial because of
Washington s marital privilege. The tape was played at trial, but she did not testify, testimonial
statements are at issue, the only indicium of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Blessed Pope Paul Vi Research Paper
Blessed Pope Paul VI was born September 26, 1897 as Giovanni Battista Montini in Concesio, a
small town north of Brescia, Italy. Giovanni s father was a middle class lawyer and journalist
and local politician. His mother was of similar social background. Due to poor health, Giovanni
studied mainly at home in his early life. Later, he studied in Brescia and was ordained a priest on
May 29, 1920, at the age of twenty two. He was then sent to Rome for higher studies by his
Bishop. Giovanni was eventually recruited for the Vatican diplomatic service. His first assignment
would have been in Warsaw, but his frail health prevented him from going. Giovanni worked as the
Vatican Secretariat of State for more than thirty years. Later on in 1954, Pope

Security in a Post September 11th World Essay
The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, have greatly changed security policies in the United
States. September 11, 2001, is an infamous day that has changed the United States in numerous
aspects. After this infamous day, many people live with the fear of experiencing another major
attack. After the attacks the national Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, also
known as the 9/11 Commission, was created. One task given to the 9/11 Commission was to
provide recommendations designed to prevent future attacks. In order to prevent another attack the
power of securityin the United States was increased. The effects of this increase in security can be

The system did not protect against suicide bombing or hijacking. The prescreening system has
since been expanded to protect against these threats by triggering a secondary screening of
passengers and carry on items. The checkpoint screening technology used on September 11,
2001, received very little improvement since the 1970s; therefore, the technology was very
limited in its capabilities. One goal of the TSA was and still is to correct the vulnerabilities of
screening technology. Eventually, Whole Body Imaging, or WBI, machines were developed to
remove the vulnerabilities of the screening process. However, WBI scanners struggle to gain
acceptance by passengers because of many believe the machines invade one s privacy due to the
high resolution, reveling images of the passenger. Health precautions also are factors in people s
reluctance to use the machine. Many people fear that possibility of being irradiated by the x rays
used by the machines. When going through airport security today, one will be given the choice of
using the WBI scanner or have a pat down by a TSA officer. The 9/11 Commission called for the
addressing of human factors issues at screening checkpoints. Human factors issues that need to be
addressed included screener selection and training, fitness for duty, and human interaction with
screening technologies. To improve the issues in this area, universities and

Essay on Variety in The Merchant s Tale
Use of Variety in The Merchant s Tale
The Merchant s Tale tells the story of an old man searching for a wife and finding one, who is
ultimately unfaithful to him. Chaucer uses a variety of elements in the poem to show his
knowledge of contemporary interests and his story telling capacity through another figure. Irony
flows through the poem, laced with allusions to the Bible. Chaucer s use of his astronomical
knowledge not only allows modern day scholars to date events, but also adds another dimension of
interest for the contemporary audience and of course, the pilgrims.
Januarie s discussion of Heaven and Hell leads to the idea of marriage providing a Heaven on
Earth. It is said that a wife is a husband s paradis terrestre, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Chaucer s knowledge of astronomy becomes evident at many points during the poem and has been
useful for modern scholars wishing to date the Tale. The wedding day has been put down as Lady
Day, 25th March 1392. Discussion of astronomy and the sky brings forth more elaborate
language as on the evening of the wedding day, the phrase Parfourned as the sonne his ark
diourne (l.583) introduces the next events of the day. In addition to this, there is always another
dimension to the story. The wedding of Januarie and May takes place when Mars and Venus are in
conjunction. This combination of the warring god and the god of love cannot bode well for the
marriage, especially combined with the heavily ironic emphasis on Januarie s concern for having
his Heaven on Earth.
The marriage of May and Januarie brings attention to their names. While the spring month of
May is full of life, the winter month of January is a new beginning (to the year), but still contains
the cold deadness of winter. Eventually, spring defeats winter. There is a stark contrast between
the characters of May and Januarie. The latter s roughness is especially focused upon on the
wedding night. His skin is Lyk to the skyn of houndfyssh and there is an almost repulsive focus on
his appearance. May is a much livelier, younger character and so Damyan, the lovesick squire seems

The Talented Prokofiev And Beethoven Essay
Samantha Davis MUSIC 1302 Professor Eldridge The Talented Prokofiev and Beethoven
Throughout history, many musicians and composers made a great impact on the musical world
as we know it today. Some of the greats were Sergei Prokofiev and Beethoven. Even though they
came in different time periods, they both made a huge impact on the musical world. Sergei
Prokofiev was a 20th century Russian composer. His father, Sergei Alekseievich Prokofiev, was
an agriculturalist and his mother, Mariya Zitkova, was a self taught pianist. Since his mother
was a pianist, he found the love for music at a young age. Prokofiev composed his first opera at
the age of 9, and when he was around 13 years old, Prokofiev attended St. Petersburg
Conservatory to study composition. Prokofiev wrote in many genres including ballets, operas,
symphonies, and even film music. He has played and lived in many countries including Russia,
America, and Itlay. Throughout his career, many of Prokofiev s work brought him great
recognition. However, his Piano Concerto No. 3(1921) marked one of the peaks of his dynamic
national style. This concerto was dedicated to his friend Boris Bashkirov. Prokofiev s Piano
Concerto No. 3 was written during the time when he wandered from Russia because of the
Bolshevik Revolution. This piece is the most carefully crafted of his early Concertos. The structure
is one movement, the music is tonal, and it is the shortest of Prokofiev s concertos. It

When you re working at the farm during the summer, you are always pressed for time. It seems
like you can never get everything you want done that day all done. But you have to try at least, so
the loud ring of my old alarm clock rings right around 6 am every morning. It seems as if the
cows and chickens know that it is time to get fed, because they are all bellering and clucking

Every Time after your done cutting hay, you have a lot left to do. First of all, you have to pressure
wash it off. With going through all of those gopher mounds, the haybine gets really jammed
packed with hard dirt and clay and rocks. This by itself takes at least an hour to get done because
there is hay in all the nooks and crannies of the haybine also, so you have to find the hay and try
to blow it out. This is actually a lot harder than it sounds, just take my word for it. Once you are
one step closer to being done, you have to fold the haybine in and park it in the machinery lot.
Now folding it in with two people is quite simple. But when you only have yourself to try and
fold it in, it becomes about 100% harder. There is a rop you have to pull and it is spring loaded,
so you have to quickly pull the rope, sprint onto the tractor, and back onto the block that you place
benefit the tire of the haybine. Like I said before, a lot harder than it may seem. After you try for
the 5th time to run fast enough to the tractor and back into the block, you finally get the haybine
folded in. You can go park it in the machinery lot, and go fuel up the tractor out of the 500 gallon
diesel fuel tank that is on the farm. Once you re all fueled up for the next time you need the
tractor, you can finally go back the tractor in the leanto that is connected to the grainery and pull
the rod to kill the tractor engine. Now you have to go feed your money makers once again. The
cows of course are the money makers. Feed the cows for the second time for the day and you are

Sojourner Truth, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, And Frederick...
When a group of people get together, with the same wants and needs, they become so motivated
that they will not be stopped by anyone to change what must be changed. Throughout the mid 1800
s, to the mid 1900 s, black men and women, along with white women, were all struggling to change
what they believed was wrong. While white women and African Americans both struggled to have
equality with white men. Historic leaders like Sojourner Truth, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and
Frederick Douglass, are only three people, but influenced an entire nation to help make a great
changes. In Sojourner Truth s speech, Ain t I a Woman? , Truth speaks out about women s
equality. Truth tells her audience, And ain t I a woman? Look at me! Look at my arm! I have
ploughed and planted, and gathered into barns, and no man could head me! And ain t I a
woman? (2). Sojourner Truth is telling the crowd that men aren t even on the same level as
women. During this time period women were looked at as dainty, and sub men, but Truth explains
to the audience that women are definitely equal, if not greater, than men. Truth proves women are
equal to men once again by stating that, ... he says women can t have as much rights as men,
cause Christ wasn t a woman! Where did your Christ come from?... From God and a woman! (2).
Truth uses a great tool here to grab her audience s attention. By tying religion, a credible topic, to
her argument of equality, she practically squashes any doubt in the

The Philosophies of Alexander Hamilton and Thomas...
Preface The argument between Federalists and Anti Federalists might seem long gone to American
citizens, but still their philosophical foundations shape the teams, scope and size of the battlefield.
These philosophies go back to two lone men, Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson. Both
fought aggressively for a government based on their ideas, and both did make portions of the now
standing American government. This essay will outline the political, social and economic
philosophies of both men, how their philosophies influenced the government today, and a closing
opinion.
Politics The political standings of Hamilton and Jefferson were the foundation and beginning of
their lifelong arguments and disagreements. Hamilton was the leader ... Show more content on

Jefferson didn t like high taxes, tariffs, regulations or even a national bank. These were all in
violation of the kind of society and government he wished to see. Jefferson believed in a utopia
where all people would be self sufficient farmers and have their own property, and a small
government would be used to do the minimal amount of work needed to keep the peace. Therefore,
an economic system was practically nonexistent. Alexander Hamilton, though, worked for a more
complex economic system. He planned out a national debt, public credit, a national bank and a
plan to pay off the debts the nation had accrued. He advocated to accept the old debts of the
Articles of Confederation, war debts, and state debts under his economic policy because it gives the
government some legitimacy, and it allows for the government to obtain credit from other countries
easily. To Alexander Hamilton, that was just a small part of economics though. He needed to fund
the government, and so he was willing to do so via tariffs, taxes, and bonds. This plan just called
upon the clearing of the national debt, and didn t even cover the vast amounts of commerce and
mercantilism that he hoped would emulate England.
Social The social philosophies were not as complicated, since they would be a direct product of
the economy. It s evident that Jefferson s society would be small and simple, where all people
would be

Substance Abuse Personal Statement
I have recently graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor s degree in Psychology
and a minor in Addictive Disorders and Recovery Studies. I have also recently been accepted to
University of Houston Clear Lake s Clinical Psychology Master s program. My main areas of
interest are mental health issues and substance abuse issues. Therefore, my educational and
career goal is to be able to help people with these types of issues. The comorbidity of drug
addiction and other mental disorders has been a primary research topic for decades in the
psychology community. This trend is evident by the plethora of studies conducted regarding a
variety of combinations of substance addictions and mental disorders. I believe that being able to

Also, the stigmas that people who are addicted to drugs, as well as people who suffer from
mental disorders, face is excruciatingly crippling to the field of research. Due to current stigmas, a

Earned Tax Credit Policy
One problem the policy faces is that even though the Earned Income Tax Credit encourages work
for some groups, it actually discourages work for others; such as families with two earners who
can decrease hours worked and still have the same amount of money due to the amount of credit. It
is becoming a challenge for low to middle income families to benefit from the policy and even
harder to gain upward social/economic mobility. According to Eamon (2009), Although we might
expect that over time the EITC would motivate more low income parents to enter the workforce and
take advantage of this program, thus further reducing child poverty, our analysis provides little
support for these expectations (pg. 922). It has left hard working families standing... Show more

Big Data A New Source
Big Data a new source in Statistics
BIS 625 Research in Information Systems
Back ground:
Social Scientists exhibit overconfidence in the reliability of the statistical data which was achieved
by single or a small sampling. However, the reliability of data is mostly confined to a smaller
volumes. Statistics, when dealing with larger volumes of data exhibit inaccurate results. There are
many factors which affect the end results. This might be due to the improper sampling, improper
handling of large volumes of data or inefficiency in analyzing the large volumes. Growing
technologies are able to handle the data management and analyzing problems. Big Data, is a
modern technology which can handle such large data, analyze it and can get better results. Long
before the term big data emerged, Europe already had a pioneer in the field Alan Turing, the
British mathematician who broke Nazi Germany s Enigma code and is widely viewed as the father
of modern computing and algorithms. (Blau, 2015).
This increased the demand for data scientists across Europe. The larger the volumes of data the
greater the complexity of data and analyzing of data. Getting high varieties and volumes of data at
greater velocities is the advantage of using Big data.(H. Davenport, 2014). The trend of making
information from data has started from decision support followed by execution support, analytical
processing, business Intelligence (BI) ended with Big Data. The design Big data architecture and

Loss Oriented Stressors
Death has always been and will be a topic that just a few want to talk, but since time immemorial
man has worshiped their dead, and this is reflected in the various rituals and forms of burial. The
anguish of death has been considered the deepest anguish of man. Death is the inevitable
companion of life, is the final stage. It can occur at any age, suddenly or after a long illness.
Despite knowing that someday we will have to die the deathof a loved one is a terrible fact, very
difficult to accept, that affects everyone around the deceased person. When the link with the
deceased breaks, the suffering is so great, that they put into question the fundamentals of being, of
human existence and our deepest beliefs, affecting significantly the basic familyand social
relationships.
The process model of coping with bereavement identified two types of stressors related to
bereavement: loss oriented stressors and restoration oriented stressors. Loss oriented stressors are
essentially those that relate directly to the death and the feelings associated with it. These types of
stressors include ruminating on the emotions associated with the deceased, concentrating on how
life had been prior to the loss, and focusing on the actual circumstances surrounding the death.
Restoration oriented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this sense, inexplicable fear of death can manifest itself in an excessive desire to obtain
achievements to counteract this anguish and the person takes an anxious race against time, no

support and comfort in this difficult time of the end of life. Numerous Researchers now for many
people believe that, continuing bonds with the deceased is a regular part of healthy adaptation

On September 10th, I had the pleasure of attending the Shapiro and Smith Dance. The
performance was a series of different dance numbers that used different elements of sound and
movements to promote their ideas. The first dance was called Dance with Two Army Blankets.
The dance used old army blankets as props to throw the dancers around the stage. Often, the
blankets were used to throw these dancers away from other people who they were trying to reach,
as if their experiences with war made it difficult for them to connect with others. This danced was
followed by Jack, a dancebetween two men and played around with all the fairy tales and rhymes
that were about men named Jack. The usage of poetry and spoken word in a dance was a new

The dancers in Jack had used pre recorded poetry while the two ladies of Pat A Cake relied only
on what sounds they could make through stomping, clapping, snapping, as well as their own
words. They had no other sound other than what they could create. This created an almost
intimate atmosphere, and the distance between dancer and audience felt less because the normal
glam that is used to separate those on stage from those in the house was gone. The following
dance, however, went back to what I was expecting to see at a dance show. To Have and To Hold
was a number dedicated to those we have loved and lost but not forgotten, to quote my program.
The music was entirely instrumental and the mood of the music was used to dictate mood of the
dance. After the more cheerful and humorous Jack and Pat A Cake this dance felt heavier. Even
the moments of joy when the dancers were, literally, sliding across the stage, there was a sorrowful
undertone as if the joy wouldn t last for

Implementing Efficient Fleet Planning And Increase...
One of the most effective ways to implement efficient fleet planning and increase profitability is to
purchase modern and fuel efficient aircraft. Typically, when placing an order for new aircraft,
airline companies utilize options, which enable them to purchase additional airliners at an agreed
upon rate in the future (Kodukula Papudesu, 2006). In this manner, airlines are able to update their
fleet and invest into modern aircraft while postponing the acquisition of additional airliners until the
efficiency of the aircraft model and its suitability to a particular market have been ascertained.
It needs to be stressed that, with regards to selecting the most efficient aircraft, different types of
airline will utilize different fleet planning strategies. Thus, non scheduled carriers, cargo operators,
low cost carriers, and leasing companies will apply different criteria with regards to fleet planning
(Clark, 2012). In this section, the present report focuses on major U.S. airlines such as American
Airlines, Delta Airlines, and United Airlinesto examine strategies mobilized by airline companies
when purchasing new aircraft. In addition, Korean Air will be considered so as to better gauge the
current situation of the US airlines flight operations by the way of a comparison with a major
international airline.

Literary Elements In Love Medicine By Louise Erdrich
Literary elements appear in all exceptional literature, they are what helps build a strong story.
There are many literary elements visible in Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich. In the novel there
are elements such as foreshadowing, tone, several examples of symbolism, and several major
themes. In Love Medicine foreshadowing is demonstrated several times throughout the novel. In the
second scene Albertine Johnson describes her family by saying, Patient Abuse. There was two
ways you could think of that title. One was obvious to a nursing student, and the other was
obvious to a Kashpaw (7). This tells the reader several details about Albertine and her family. First
of all, it informs the reader of Albertine s schooling and how she is... Show more content on

One recurring symbol is June Kashpaw as Jesus Christ. The first time the author symbolizes her
as Jesus occurs as she is walking home right before she dies, The snow fell deeper that Easter
than it had in forty years, but June walked over it like water and came home (7). She is similar to
Jesus because both of them walk on water. Another time she is symbolized as Jesus is during the
chapters, Crown of Thorns and Resurrection. Even the chapter titles represent Jesus because he
wore a crown of thorns and was resurrected from the dead. In Resurrection Gordie Kashpaw, June s
husband, imagines June is resurrected like Jesus, and he hits her while driving. Although in reality,
Gordie hits a deer, but because he has guilt for treating June badly during their time together, he
imagines he hits June.
Another literary element in Love Medicine is theme. Two themes from this novel are family and
assimilation. The family relationships of the Kashpaws are so important and confusing in this
novel. It is demonstrated by the family tree diagram in the beginning of the novel. The author
would not have put the diagram there, if family is not an important. Another theme is assimilation
of the Native Americans to the American culture. The family partially assimilates from its
Chippewa roots to those of Western Christians. As a child Marie desires to have a life with the
nuns, so she rejects her tribal heritage and assimilates. However towards the end

misconception that social media doesn t have any benefits for improving a teen s self esteem or well

Football Vs Basketball Compare And Contrast
The first basketball game ever played was in 1891 and the first American football game was
played in 1869. Ever since then, American football and basketball are among two of the most
liked and watched sports in the United States. Even though both sports are completely different in
general, they are similar in many ways also. Both sports are excellent sports to watch and play, but
some people may prefer one over another. Throughout this essay, I will discuss similarities and
differences between football and basketball, such as regulations, scoring, teams and how the game.

In football, the lowest you can score is two points, which is known as a safety. The highest you
can score is six points, which is known as a touchdown. The game is played on a 100, 120 if you
include both end zones, yard field of artificial turf with two goal posts opposite from each other.
In order to score, you must either throw or run the ball across the field. You are given four
downs, per ten yard intervals, to move the ball. The goal is to move beyond the required amount
so your play count resets and you can move further down the field increasing your chance of
scoring. The possession of the ball can be changed by an interception of the ball, or once the
defense stops the offensive team forcing either a turnover, or a punt. Unlike football, basketball
is played on a 94 by 50 foot wood court. There are three ways to score points; a free throw which
is equal to one point, a two point shot (inside the outer ring), and a three point shot (outside the
outer ring). To score, you can either pass or dribble the ball until you free of the defender and have
a chance for a lay up or shot. While basketball is primarily played indoors on a wood court, football

Carol Ann Duffy Poems Analysis
Originally Introduction Memories play a significant role in the poetry of Carol Ann Duffy,
particularly her recollections of childhood places and events. The poem Originally, published in
The Other Country (1990), draws specifically from memories of Duffy s family s move from
Scotland to England when she and her siblings were very young. The first born child, Duffy was
just old enough to feel a deep sense of personal loss and fear as she traveled farther and farther
away from the only place she had known as home and the family neared its alien destination. This
sentiment is captured in Originally, in which it is described in the rich detail and defining language
of both the child who has had the experience and the adult who recalls... Show more content on

The hate name of the racists is sprayed on a brick wall the harshness and unyielding nature of
which is symbolic of the mentality of those who do such things. The unfamiliar, snowy weather
and artificial neon lights create the impression for the immigrant that the country moved to is
coming to bits . This image of fragmentation is, though, not entirely imaginary as he or she has a
life splintered from all that is familiar and constantly experiences a sense of alienation. The
italicised words at the close of the poem give voice to the immigrant but this only gives away a
difficulty with English. The unfinished verbs, Me not know and It like they only... are drawn
attention to by Duffy in order that the reader may ponder what it would be like to face the same
language problem. The final words of the poem, Imagine that remind us of the opening and there
is quite a clear impression that Duffy is adopting an undisguised didactic stance. As a skilled and

are marginalised because of their deficiency in its use. Carol Ann Duffy s Stealing An Analysis and

Framing Effects the Sales Promotion by Referring to the...
The concept of framing which is a part of prospect theory (Kahneman and Tversky 1979) is
closely related to the formation of reference price in the consumer s mind. Outcomes above the
consumer s reference point are presented as gains and it affects choice, judgment, and risk taking
differently than the same alternatives which are below the reference point and are coded as losses
by the consumer. In extant literature, there have been efforts to explain the framing effects of sales
promotionby referring to mental accounting theory. Thaler and Johnson (1986) have proposed that
consumers use hedonic rules to edit their mental accounts, therefore when they see a small gain
(e.g., pricediscount) relative to a big loss (e.g., purchasing cost), they prefer to separate them
psychologically into two different accounts rather than integrate them. This is the silver lining
principle (based on prospect theory) and it also says that utility functions are concave for gains
and convex for losses, and the curve for losses is steeper than that for gains. Because the size of a
promotionis usually small relative to the purchasing cost, consumers should create a new account
for the promotion rather than integrate it into the purchasing cost, regardless of the promotional
types.
This proposed study aims to use mental accounting theory and sales framing concepts to upgrading
promotions and compare the attractiveness of non monetary promotions versus price discount
promotions in a

because they reject the fundamental philosophy of the Economic Opportunity Act which urges

political separation between the government and the UCC plays a pivotal factor in the blame
attributed to the UCC for the riots. Still achieves this by illustrating how political motives landed

Factors That V Leiden Thrombophilia
Factor V Leiden Thrombophilia Thrombophilia is a disorder that contains several genetic
components that can cause an individual to form arterial and venous thrombi more readily. Many
serious medical complications can result from thrombus formations that are often times fatal. In
fact, a venous thromboembolism (VTE) is relatively common and a thrombosis of the deep
veins of the legs or pelvis can lead to morbidity and mortality. Small portions of this patient
population even develop pulmonary emboli (PE), which can be fatal. This major medical
problem affects 1 in 1,000 persons per year and approximately 1 in 130 Americans younger than
age 65 develop a VTE (Crow, 2003; Kujovich, 2011). Interestingly enough, inherited thrombophilia
can be identified in half of the patients presenting with VTE (Kujovich, 2011). In 1993, European
investigators Dahlback and his colleagues recognized a new mechanism for familial thrombophilia.
Their research was initiated in order to investigate the cause for a number of young adults that
presented with VTE, who had a family history of thrombosis but no detectable genetic link. As a
result, a previously unrecognized mechanism associated with activated protein C resistance (APCR)
was found Factor V Leiden mutation (Crow, 2003). Factor V Leiden is considered the single most
common cause of hereditary thrombophilia and is often linked to thrombosis due to hereditary
hypercoagulability. Studies have indicated that factor V Leiden is a

things happen. We just see things as normal because it s something we don t really think about. In

poem it mentions that we are the inventors and that we are the people who make the changes with

Derived from Britain and Exit.
The United Kingdom held a referendum to decide if they leave the European Economic

applied for membership and was denied because Charles de Gaulle the president of France at
that time dismissed the application because of the fear that English language will dominate the
continent. In 1973 the United Kingdom made a third application and was successful but backed
out in 1973 (2 years Later). The Prime Minster of the United Kingdom David Cameron

Essay On Young Adults Under The Drinking Age
The drinking age The whole world can approve that alcohol should not be given to children or
young adults under a certain age. Alcohol is very dangerous and if abused the consequences can
be dangerous. All behaviors and experiences you endure until the age of 25 have the potential to
impact your developing brain (Mental Health Daily 2015). States lowered their age for drinking
alcoholonly to find an increase in motor vehicle deaths. In 1984, Congress passed the Uniform
Drinking Age Act, which required states to have a minimum drinking age of 21 for all alcohol
consumption if they wanted to receive federal highway funds (APIS). Consumption of alcohol
under the age of 21 is forbidden due to the dangerous side effects. When it comes to health factors

al.; 1966). In fact, Hunt (1975) states that since the ground patterns of the two regions are similar,
salt can be thought of as the warm form of ice. In the saltpan of Death Valley and the surrounding
floodplain similarities of patterned ground between these two types of regions can be seen, and will
be further described in this paper. Patterned Ground of Death Valley: The patterned ground
morphologies, characteristic of playa environments, which formed as a result of the expansion and
contraction of saline rich sediments, are similar to such crack morphologies seen in periglacial
environments, as a result of freeze thaw cycles. In periglacial environments the extent of
development of patterned grounds is proportional to the intensity of frost action, while in playa
environments; the extent of patterned ground is proportional to salt content (Hunt, et. al.; 1966).
The prominent patterned ground morphology among colder climates is ice wedge polygons that
develop on the permanently frozen ground. Similarly to the permanently frozen grounds of
periglacial environments, a salt hardened ground in a playa environment can develop extensive
polygonal crack morphologies (Hunt, et. al.; 1966). In desert regions, such as Death Valley,
desiccation cracks that lead to the formation of polygonal systems are the most prominent crack
morphologies. The general rapid drying of fine grained sediments within the Death Valley Basin

Causes Of Youth Violence Essay
There are many different types of violence in the world. One of the biggest types of violence is
youth violence. According to cdc.gov, Youth violence is a significant public health problem that
affects thousands of young people each day, and in turn, their families, schools, and communities.
Youth violence typically involves youngpeople hurting other peers who are unrelated to them and
who they may or may not know well. Youthviolence can take different forms. Examples include
fights, bullying, threats with weapons, and gang related violence. A young person can be
involved with youth violence as a victim, offender, or witness. The facts about youth violence
are very disturbing. Some of the facts about youth violence, according to who.int are, Worldwide
some 200 000 homicides occur among youth 10 29 years of age each year, which is 43% of the
total number of homicides globally each year. Homicide is the fourth leading cause of death in
people aged 10 29 years, and 83% of these homicides involve male victims. For each young person
killed, many more sustain injuries requiring hospital treatment. When it is not fatal, youth violence
has a serious, often lifelong, impact on a person s physical, psychological and social functioning.
Youth violence greatly increases the costs of health, welfare and criminal justice services; reduces
productivity; and decreases the value of property.

My Lifetime Intrigue With Tattoos Essay
Introduction
My lifetime intrigue with tattoos has led me to research the history and culture surrounding
tattooing. I have already collected several pieces, both small and large, on my body and am
endlessly curious about the culture of body modification. The objective of my research is to
discover the ancient history of body art, the social and cultural significances and stigmas of tattoos,
as well as to discover the process of getting a custom tattoo. After defining my objectives and doing
preliminary research, I have chosen to analyze and interpret the existing research about this subject
through a conceptual framework. This framework indicates that tattooing is an ancient art form
practiced around the world for many different reasons and has a diverse cultural and social
significance in today s societies. This framework was chosen as a result of preliminary reading and
analyzing existing research about the history and culture of tattooing. This existing research has
shown that the practice of tattooing dates back to ancient civilizations, as well as the different
perceptions of body art in current global societies, both negative and positive. My research will
consist of three topics; ancient tattooing history, the recent history and the emergence of western
practice, and the social and cultural significance and stigmas in global societies today.

Christian College Freshmen Should Make Time For A Daily Bible
College can be a very difficult adjustment for freshman to make, especially for freshmen that are
believers in Christ. While the struggles and evils of the world bare down on them, students need a
source of fulfillment and safety. That can be found within a daily study of the bible. Christian
college freshmen should make time for a daily biblestudy so that they may grow closer with the
Lord, get help and guidance for life, and reach a deeper understanding of what the bible says so
they can defend against attacks. A daily bible study plays a major part for college freshman to
grow closer to Christ. God set the bible as the main source for revealing Himself. The bible is
His love letter to all humans, and by reading and studying it every day, they can start to truly
understand God s great character and His great love. God s character is revealed within the bible
s pages; it tells of His great majesty and grandeur. If students do not dive into the word, they will
miss how holy and perfect He is. Christ s ultimate sacrifice is also explained multiple times in
the bible. He demonstrated His great love for us by dying on a cross, defeating sin, and rising
from the grave. He did all of this to save His creation, so they may come live with Him.
Christians who do not study the bible can take His sacrifice for granted so easily. Freshmen must
understand what Christ did for them and know how great their Lord is. Students can grow closer to
Christ through prayer as well. God has given

mental health has evolved in the way we conceive it. Also, through history, we understand why the
mentally ill have been tortured, or protected, and this will depend on the perspective of the human
being at that particular time. Mentally ill people in prehistoric times were seen as if evil spirits

placed as the second person in line. There I stood, waiting in line for over twenty minutes! It felt
like it was taking forever because there was a gentleman in front of me who didn t have his
referrals. But order for him to proceed with an appointment, he needed the referrals. So the
receptionist, decided to put her time into looking for his paperwork. Thankfully, while she s
looking into it, she calls the next person in line. This happens to finally be my turn! I quickly
proceeded to the receptionist s desk, to present my insurance cards. The reason why I have two
insurance cards instead of just one is because I have Hodgkin s Lymphoma. That means I have a
secondary insurance listed under the state s welfare policies for disabled children. Although I am

The Most Complex Organs Of The Human Body
The eye is one of the most complex organs of the human body. In the human eye, three layers can be
distinguished.
The outer region consists of the cornea and the sclera [4]. The cornea refracts and transmits the
light to the lens and the retina and protects the eye against infection and structural damage to the
deeper parts. The sclera is a thick, opaque white tissue that covers 95% of the surface area of the eye
. The sclera forms a connective tissue coat that protects the eye from internal and external forces
and maintains its shape. The cornea and the sclera are connected at the limbus. The visible part of
the sclera is covered by a transparent mucous membrane, the conjunctiva.
The middle layer of the eye is composed of the iris, the ciliary body ... Show more content on

The iris controls the size of the pupil, and thus the amount of light reaching the retina; the ciliary
body controls the power and shape of the lens and is the site of aqueous production; and the
choroid is a vascular layer that provides oxygen and nutrients to the outer retinal layers.
The inner layer of the eye is the retina [4], a complex, layered structure of neurons that capture and
process light. The surrounding sclera and cornea help to protect retina and keep it in the appropriate
position.
There are six major classes in neural retina: photoreceptors, bipolar cells, horizontal cells, amacrine
cells and ganglion cells, which capture and process light signals; and the M ullerian glia, which act
as the organizational backbone of the neural retina.
The three transparent structures surrounded by the ocular layers are called the aqueous, the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Tissue Microarray
Tissue microarray
Tissue micro arrays (TMAs) was introduced by Kononen et al. in 1998 157. This technique is
based on the assembly of separate tissue cores on a paraffin block, which may contain up to 1000
cores. TMA can be used for several purposes, in which the detection of protein is the most
common. In this thesis, prognosis/outcome based arrays was applied to evaluate the prognostic
value of various proliferation markers.
Several advantages and disadvantages are associated with TMA compared to the classic single
sample microscope slide. Advantages associated with this technique include rapid and high
throughput validation of biomarkers, less reagent consumption, less expensive, decreased technical
time, decreased assessment time, decreased variability of results, standardization and the
possibility of digitizing and quantifying results 155,158 162. However, TMA is not better than the
classic microscope slide in every are. Several disadvantages are also associated with this technique,

selection is also critical due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cinematography In Arrival
Arrival, released in 2016 and directed by Charlie Villanueva, opens with a montage of a child s life
and early death. This montage appears to be a flashback that our protagonist experiences before the
events of the film. However, this introductory scene actually encourages the formation of a false
hypothesis, since the montage features events from the future, not the past. The primacy effect
strongly encourages the acceptance of this hypothesis, at least until the narration presents an
overwhelming amount of information to overturn it. Over the course of the film, the narration does
in fact present overwhelming information. However, it does so gradually by establishing a pattern
of redundant visions the protagonist, Louise, experiences. More... Show more content on

The syuzhet reveals definitively that the opening sequence was a vision of the future rather than a
flashback. The first time the narration offers a little depth of knowledge of Louise is when she
asks Costello Who is this child? . That is the exact moment the plot reveals with absolute certainty
that the visions are not flashbacks. This is the first time Louise comments on her visions,
unleashing the slightest bit of depth of knowledge on her character. Costello immediately
responds: Louise sees future. Now the gaps begin to fill themselves quickly. Louise tries to
explain to Weber that the weapon the heptapods are trying to give humanity is their language,
which causes whoever learns it to begin to perceive time nonlinearly. Louise also begins to control
these visions so she can receive vital information from the future to save the day in the present.
After the narration makes it obvious that these visions are of the future, Louise stands in a field
outside of the military base with Ian, when a montage similar to the one at the beginning of the film
plays. With the revelation of this montage s true time frame, both primary enigmas have been
answered, and the film can

The Lego Movie Analysis
In the movie The Lego Movie there are many different morals and points of perspective to be
taken out of the movie. The topic of this essay is, how does The Lego Movie demonstrate that
those in a role of leadership can have the power to rule in positive or negative or positive ways.
This prompt will be shown with evidence from the movie focusing on some certain characters. The
characters that will be focused on are Emmet, President Business and Vitruvius.
President business is a perfect example of the fact that having a leadership role can give someone
the chance and power to rule in a positive or negative way. As a president he had a lot of power.
He abused this right. He used his power for his own gain to get things how he wanted them to
be. With the amount of power that he had he was able to cover all this up and make sure nobody
knew. This is evidence of how having a leadership role can give anyone the chance to make a
positive or negative impact. This example is of someone in a leadership role making a negative
impact on the people and lives around him. In the speech he gave on the television of all the
citizens he says things like I am the president of the octan cooperates and the world. He is
showing the world his power so that they don t question him but also so that they can t. In the
movie The Lego Movie the character President Business abuses his power as president. He uses his
power in a negative way and for his own personal deeds. He wants the world to

The Three-Offensive Boxing Styles
The Three Offensive Boxing Styles:
Many of us are familiar with boxing. Some people may hate it, while others may love it.
Regardless of what your prospective is of this particular sport, a large majority of people have
been influenced by it in one way or another if you have ever been a witness or involved in a
simple fisticuffs. So, with that said, this essay is set to breakdown the three different styles of boxing
.
Pure Boxer / Counterpuncher: These fighters embody the whole sweet science of boxing. They use
their intellect in the ring to maintain a safe distance between themselves and their opponents, and
they pick their spots to attack with precision. They may lack punching power although this may not

Is The Patriot Movie Historically Accurate
My opinion may be different than yours but here it is . Overall in the movie , scenes / events did
occur that similarly happened in history and on the other hand other events were not historically
accurate. If you didn t know already the movie the Patriot is based on a character Benjamin Martin
who is an unassuming man who is forced to join the American revolutionary warafter his son
Thomas is killed. Benjamin was tasked with keeping the Lord Cornwallis s regiments pinned south
through guerilla warfare. But back to my key point in this essay I will be explaining why I

victory in the end of the movie against the British. However, in history the depiction of the
characters he is based off is actually accurate but some things arent. For instance in the movie
Benjamin s house was burned by the army of british and he is a militia commander / fighter in

Lab Report Of Pitot Tube
Introduction:
In most of the world planes, spaceships and helicopters have been tested in wind tunnel. The wind
tunnel is a chamber where the high speed air is passed through. The objective of this experiment is
to determine the velocity profile at a single location within the wind tunnel by using the Pitot tube.
Firstly, make plot of the non dimensional distance Versus non dimensional velocity to compare the
plot with White s Figure 7.5. Then Reynolds number, coefficient of drag, skin friction coefficient,
free stream velocity and boundary layer thickness should to be determined.
The experimental equipment which is used shown in the figure 1 below wind tunnel open end blow
type. Starting from the lift side of the figure position one is the fan. Then position 2 is the
Contraction Cone. The third position is the emergency stop. Four position is the test section. The
fifth position is the digital manometer which is used to calculate the Pitot tube position and the and
pressure difference of Pitot tube. The position 6 is Pitot tube. The last position 7 is the Chamber
Methodology:
The Pitot tube is a right angle tube with open end located in opposite to the fluid flow and its
used to measure the pressure. The Pitot tube is used in the wind tunnel and it has some holes at
the surface which is right angle to the wind and other hole facing the wind direction which lead to
rubber pipe as shown in the figure 2 below.
The total pressure can be measure from the hole facing the wind

Rene Descartes Dreaming Argument Essay
Dreaming Argument
Dreaming is something we all are subject to. Every night when we lay down in our beds we
dream, now whether or not we can remember our dreams is a different story. Dreams can be very
realistic and they have been speculated and researched but we know little about our dreams, what
they mean, and the sensations or feelings they provide for us. As far as we know dreaming is our
unconscious mind acting out desires, possibly because we cannot do them or experience those
events in our waking life. Since dreaming is so under researched and we know little about it, it
has been speculated by many people. Rene Descartes go in depth on this subject and his ideas
on what dreaming is arguing that we cannot distinguish the difference between being awake and
being asleep. That is a very bold statement and put in a seemingly simplistic way, recorded in his
first meditations. What Descartes does is challenge our preconceived notions of dreaming and
puts us in the frame of mind to answer for ourselves if we are dreaming right now or are we
actually experiencing reality. Descartes makes us come face to face with the reality that we
actually don t know if we are dreaming. His claims that we may be dreaming is a well known
philosophical argument in the Western world and I hope to discover the truth behind his argument
and shed light on how I perceive his philosophy on the dreaming world. I will shed light on this
dream argument by interpreting what Descartes says, other

Understanding Customer Needs
The most important need is being able to identify any issues that may arise and prioritise these in
the most effective way.
Below are three examples of different customers and their needs.
1: An employee has called in sick and this triggers a MFA (managing for attendance alert) 2: My
manager has asked for a list of all staffs sickness to date, as a report needs to be written. 3: The
payroll department have asked for details of a new employee, before the cut off period which is
today at 17.00 hrs.
In order for me to prioritise these key tasks it would be suggested that that importance be
considered for all, I would then review all three and decide the order to complete each task timely
and effectively.
Firstly I would find the details to complete number three; next I would

Wicca and Wiccan Practitioners Essay
Wicca one of the most recognizable pagan religions today in the USA and Great Britain is also
unfortunately, like many pagan religions, still greatly misunderstood by the general population:
mainly due to the media s often inaccurate or highly skewed presentation of Wicca and Wiccan
practitioners. This inaccurate depiction of Wiccaand Wiccans often leads to people lumping
Wiccans together with occultists and Satanists and all the negative connotations that surround those
words. Luckily, Wiccans are neither occultist nor Satanists. Instead Wiccans are part witch part
pagans whose unique beliefs, traditions, and practices set them apart from other witches and pagans.
A large part of being a Wiccan is also being a witch. But what exactly... Show more content on

However, this does not mean we are all witches; in order to be a witch one must self identify as a
witch. Other types of magic can include healing, protection, divination, etc. Also it is important to
note that while all Wiccans are witches, not all witches are Wiccans as witches can be of any faith.
Another key aspect of being a Wiccan is being a pagan or neopagan. As defined by Prudence
Jones from the Pagan Federation International, pagan is a term used to describe a follower of a
polytheistic or pantheistic nature worshipping religion, while neopagan is a term used to
describe those whose religions, as Eric A. Powell states in his article Solstice at the Stones,
consist of modern beliefs inspired by ancient religious practices (36). According to Jones, the term
neopagan is also used to describe all those [religions] who are recognisably [sic] Pagan, but who
do not adhere to any of the standard [pagan] traditions. However, since most pagans today are
actually neopagans as Powell explains, modern pagans are more interested in evolving and
cultivating their own practices rather than trying to emulate traditional, ancient practices (41) often
neopagans are simply referred to as pagans.
According Jones, besides finding nature sacred, many pagan religions are polytheistic with many
believing in at least a god and a goddess. Again it is important to note that while all Wiccans are
pagans, not all pagans are Wiccans. For example, according to the

The Novel The Spirit Level I Came Into Inequality
While reading The Spirit Level I came into conclusion that the inequality in developed countries
is great threat to society as a whole. The major issues that are brought up in the book are the
inequality between the rich and the poor in developed countries but also the comparison
between developing countries. The book dives into several factors that are the effects of the
inequality ranging from obesity, teenage birth, life expectancy etc.... I would discuss in depth
on each of these factors and how they all are key components in society and how they add to the
inequality in developed countries. One of the first factors the book brings up is the issue of
trust and how it is a main factor in society, trust is what keeps us from not turning on each other
and seeing others as cooperative rather than competitive. According to the book trust has fallen
from a high 60 percent from 1960 to a low of less than 40 percent in 2004 , this facts gives
insight into the society we are living in now. When I read this, I could only think of the mindset
many people have now, job security is tight and that everyone is seen as competition. I for one
living in America I always have a sense that everyone wants to be on top, and they are willing to
do everything to get the job or position, instead of trying to change the way of selfishness, we are
adding to it, especially with social media. Social media has it pros but it has very damaging cons,
ideas of self worth and values are being shoved

Pros And Cons Of Owning A Gun
Ethical Side
Freedom:
The main ethical debate is that gun ownership revolves around the freedom to bear arms. In the
second amendment from the Bill of Rights, the founding fathers wrote that A well regulated
militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear
arms, shall not be infringed. This gives anyone (as long as they are not a convicted criminal) the
unalienable right to possess a firearm. In a democracy, we should not have to justify owning a gun.
If we need one for protection, hunting, or just because I have an interest in collecting firearms. It is
really none of the governments concern on why we have them unless someone plans on using them
the wrong way. Anyway, there are people who think that the government should ban something
because of some people who abuse it. Why not ban alcohol? Or cigarettes? Or even cars? All of
those have caused more causalities than gun ownership.
Protection:
Criminals exist, so I must protect myself. End of the discussion. Education services, mental
health evaluators, and even our law enforcement can t stop all violence because neither
enforcement nor prevention will work one hundred percent. That s why we have to take it on
ourselves to protect ourselves and the ones we love. We need more law abiding citizens. We could
possibly have less mass shootings, if the average properly trained citizen would provide such a
defense to thwart the attacker. The idea of more guns to protect

Many of the British commanders in attendance had served in the first World War and were weary
of sending mass amounts of troops into a battle where the enemy may be laying and waiting for
them.
The plan was complicated, precise and heavily relied on the element of surprise. Timing and
coordination were of great importance, a failure at one of the hundred points could send the whole
balanced plan in to chaos. The first assault wave would have eight division, close to
80,000 men. Three of the eight divisions, 1 of Britain and two of the United States, would be
airborne paratroopers and glider troops that would be dropped at night. The other five divisions
would be Infantry divisions and would land on five beaches at the crack of dawn. After the
Atlantic Wall had been broken by the first assault and a stable beachhead was obtained, more than
thirty nine divisions would rapidly pour in.
Capturing a strong hold of a beachhead was crucial to the success of the invasion. The beachhead
would need to be able to hold back the inevitable counterattack of strong German forces. A port
would have to be seized to be able to supply necessary supplies for land invasion.
A strategic drop was to be made at the Contentin Peninsula of Normandy because its North was
Cherbourg a major harbor. Unless this mission was successful, supplies would have to be shipped
through open invasion beaches subject to

The Plaza was owned by the aggressive and ambitious Sohel Rana, who exploited his political

the local government authorities. Sohel Rana (like building owners in general) was able to take
advantage of the loopholes in the system through his ties to political allies and his wealth. Not
only did he ensure that inspections were rarely performed, but was also able to bribe officials to
build on a rejected, unsuitable plot of land, to add additional floors to the building, and to
persuade workers to enter the building despite the cracks and warnings from engineers. Also, he
allegedly remarked to the media on the same day that the cracks were a trivial matter. Rana Plaza
was built after taking permission from the Savar Mayor (who, like Rana was also an Awami

chief engineer of the state run Capital Development Authority, the owner of the building had
permission for only a five storey building from the local municipality. The illegal extension by a

Washington DATE: November 2, 2014 Petitioner Michael Crawford stabbed a man who allegedly tried to rape his wife, Sylvia. At his trial, the State played for the jury Sylvia s tape recorded statement to the police describing the stabbing, even though Crawford had no opportunity for cross examination. September 11, 2001, is an infamous day that has changed the United States in numerous aspects. After this infamous day, many people live with the fear of experiencing another major attack. After the attacks the national Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, also known as the 9/11 Commission, was created. One task given to the 9/11 Commission was to provide recommendations designed to prevent future attacks. In order to prevent another attack the power of securityin the United States was increased. The system did not protect against suicide bombing or hijacking. The prescreening system has since been expanded to protect against these threats by triggering a secondary screening of passengers and carry on items. The checkpoint screening technology used on September 11, 2001, received very little improvement since the 1970s; therefore, the technology was very limited in its capabilities. One goal of the TSA was and still is to correct the vulnerabilities of screening technology. Eventually, Whole Body Imaging, or WBI, machines were developed to remove the vulnerabilities of the screening process. However, WBI scanners struggle to gain acceptance by passengers because of many believe the machines invade one s privacy due to the high resolution, reveling images of the passenger. Health precautions also are factors in people s reluctance to use the machine. Many people fear that possibility of being irradiated by the x rays used by the machines. When going through airport security today, one will be given the choice of using the WBI scanner or have a pat down by a TSA officer. The 9/11 Commission called for the addressing of human factors issues at screening checkpoints. Human factors issues that need to be addressed included screener selection and training, fitness for duty, and human interaction with screening technologies. To improve the issues in this area, universities and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay on Variety in The Merchant s Tale Use of Variety in The Merchant s Tale The Merchant s Tale tells the story of an old man searching for a wife and finding one, who is ultimately unfaithful to him. Chaucer uses a variety of elements in the poem to show his knowledge of contemporary interests and his story telling capacity through another figure. Irony flows through the poem, laced with allusions to the Bible. Chaucer s use of his astronomical knowledge not only allows modern day scholars to date events, but also adds another dimension of interest for the contemporary audience and of course, the pilgrims. Januarie s discussion of Heaven and Hell leads to the idea of marriage providing a Heaven on Earth. It is said that a wife is a husband s paradis terrestre, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chaucer s knowledge of astronomy becomes evident at many points during the poem and has been useful for modern scholars wishing to date the Tale. The wedding day has been put down as Lady Day, 25th March 1392. Discussion of astronomy and the sky brings forth more elaborate language as on the evening of the wedding day, the phrase Parfourned as the sonne his ark diourne (l.583) introduces the next events of the day. In addition to this, there is always another dimension to the story. The wedding of Januarie and May takes place when Mars and Venus are in conjunction. This combination of the warring god and the god of love cannot bode well for the marriage, especially combined with the heavily ironic emphasis on Januarie s concern for having his Heaven on Earth. The marriage of May and Januarie brings attention to their names. While the spring month of May is full of life, the winter month of January is a new beginning (to the year), but still contains the cold deadness of winter. Eventually, spring defeats winter. There is a stark contrast between the characters of May and Januarie. The latter s roughness is especially focused upon on the wedding night. His skin is Lyk to the skyn of houndfyssh and there is an almost repulsive focus on his appearance. May is a much livelier, younger character and so Damyan, the lovesick squire seems ... • 6. The Talented Prokofiev And Beethoven Essay Samantha Davis MUSIC 1302 Professor Eldridge The Talented Prokofiev and Beethoven Throughout history, many musicians and composers made a great impact on the musical world as we know it today. Some of the greats were Sergei Prokofiev and Beethoven. Even though they came in different time periods, they both made a huge impact on the musical world. Sergei Prokofiev was a 20th century Russian composer. His father, Sergei Alekseievich Prokofiev, was an agriculturalist and his mother, Mariya Zitkova, was a self taught pianist. Since his mother was a pianist, he found the love for music at a young age. Prokofiev composed his first opera at the age of 9, and when he was around 13 years old, Prokofiev attended St. Petersburg Conservatory to study composition. Prokofiev wrote in many genres including ballets, operas, symphonies, and even film music. He has played and lived in many countries including Russia, America, and Itlay. Throughout his career, many of Prokofiev s work brought him great recognition. However, his Piano Concerto No. 3(1921) marked one of the peaks of his dynamic national style. This concerto was dedicated to his friend Boris Bashkirov. Prokofiev s Piano Concerto No. 3 was written during the time when he wandered from Russia because of the Bolshevik Revolution. This piece is the most carefully crafted of his early Concertos. The structure is one movement, the music is tonal, and it is the shortest of Prokofiev s concertos. It ... • 8. Haybine Descriptive Writing As my alarm clock yells at me to get up, I turn over in bed and see that it is only 6am. It s a necessity to rise and shine before the crack of dawn on days like these... When you re working at the farm during the summer, you are always pressed for time. It seems like you can never get everything you want done that day all done. But you have to try at least, so the loud ring of my old alarm clock rings right around 6 am every morning. It seems as if the cows and chickens know that it is time to get fed, because they are all bellering and clucking away. This is the best sound to wake up to, the sound of the cows bellowing up in the feedlot ready to get fed for the long summer hours of the sun s appearance during the summer. I get dressed into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every Time after your done cutting hay, you have a lot left to do. First of all, you have to pressure wash it off. With going through all of those gopher mounds, the haybine gets really jammed packed with hard dirt and clay and rocks. This by itself takes at least an hour to get done because there is hay in all the nooks and crannies of the haybine also, so you have to find the hay and try to blow it out. This is actually a lot harder than it sounds, just take my word for it. Once you are one step closer to being done, you have to fold the haybine in and park it in the machinery lot. Now folding it in with two people is quite simple. But when you only have yourself to try and fold it in, it becomes about 100% harder. There is a rop you have to pull and it is spring loaded, so you have to quickly pull the rope, sprint onto the tractor, and back onto the block that you place benefit the tire of the haybine. Like I said before, a lot harder than it may seem. After you try for the 5th time to run fast enough to the tractor and back into the block, you finally get the haybine folded in. You can go park it in the machinery lot, and go fuel up the tractor out of the 500 gallon diesel fuel tank that is on the farm. Once you re all fueled up for the next time you need the tractor, you can finally go back the tractor in the leanto that is connected to the grainery and pull the rod to kill the tractor engine. Now you have to go feed your money makers once again. The cows of course are the money makers. Feed the cows for the second time for the day and you are finally done for the ... • 9. Sojourner Truth, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, And Frederick... When a group of people get together, with the same wants and needs, they become so motivated that they will not be stopped by anyone to change what must be changed. Throughout the mid 1800 s, to the mid 1900 s, black men and women, along with white women, were all struggling to change what they believed was wrong. While white women and African Americans both struggled to have equality with white men. Historic leaders like Sojourner Truth, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Frederick Douglass, are only three people, but influenced an entire nation to help make a great changes. In Sojourner Truth s speech, Ain t I a Woman? , Truth speaks out about women s equality. Truth tells her audience, And ain t I a woman? Look at me! Look at my arm! I have ploughed and planted, and gathered into barns, and no man could head me! And ain t I a woman? (2). Sojourner Truth is telling the crowd that men aren t even on the same level as women. During this time period women were looked at as dainty, and sub men, but Truth explains to the audience that women are definitely equal, if not greater, than men. Truth proves women are equal to men once again by stating that, ... he says women can t have as much rights as men, cause Christ wasn t a woman! Where did your Christ come from?... From God and a woman! (2). Truth uses a great tool here to grab her audience s attention. • 10. The Philosophies of Alexander Hamilton and Thomas... Preface The argument between Federalists and Anti Federalists might seem long gone to American citizens, but still their philosophical foundations shape the teams, scope and size of the battlefield. These philosophies go back to two lone men, Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson. Both fought aggressively for a government based on their ideas, and both did make portions of the now standing American government. This essay will outline the political, social and economic philosophies of both men, how their philosophies influenced the government today, and a closing opinion. These were all in violation of the kind of society and government he wished to see. Jefferson believed in a utopia where all people would be self sufficient farmers and have their own property, and a small government would be used to do the minimal amount of work needed to keep the peace. Therefore, an economic system was practically nonexistent. Alexander Hamilton, though, worked for a more complex economic system. He planned out a national debt, public credit, a national bank and a plan to pay off the debts the nation had accrued. He advocated to accept the old debts of the Articles of Confederation, war debts, and state debts under his economic policy because it gives the government some legitimacy, and it allows for the government to obtain credit from other countries easily. To Alexander Hamilton, that was just a small part of economics though. He needed to fund the government, and so he was willing to do so via tariffs, taxes, and bonds. This plan just called upon the clearing of the national debt, and didn t even cover the vast amounts of commerce and mercantilism that he hoped would emulate England. Social The social philosophies were not as complicated, since they would be a direct product of the economy. I have also recently been accepted to University of Houston Clear Lake s Clinical Psychology Master s program. My main areas of interest are mental health issues and substance abuse issues. Therefore, my educational and career goal is to be able to help people with these types of issues. The comorbidity of drug addiction and other mental disorders has been a primary research topic for decades in the psychology community. This trend is evident by the plethora of studies conducted regarding a variety of combinations of substance addictions and mental disorders. Earned Tax Credit Policy One problem the policy faces is that even though the Earned Income Tax Credit encourages work for some groups, it actually discourages work for others; such as families with two earners who can decrease hours worked and still have the same amount of money due to the amount of credit. It is becoming a challenge for low to middle income families to benefit from the policy and even harder to gain upward social/economic mobility. According to Eamon (2009), Although we might expect that over time the EITC would motivate more low income parents to enter the workforce and take advantage of this program, thus further reducing child poverty, our analysis provides little support for these expectations (pg. 922). Big Data A New Source Big Data a new source in Statistics BIS 625 Research in Information Systems Back ground: Social Scientists exhibit overconfidence in the reliability of the statistical data which was achieved by single or a small sampling. However, the reliability of data is mostly confined to a smaller volumes. Statistics, when dealing with larger volumes of data exhibit inaccurate results. There are many factors which affect the end results. This might be due to the improper sampling, improper handling of large volumes of data or inefficiency in analyzing the large volumes. Growing technologies are able to handle the data management and analyzing problems. Big Data, is a modern technology which can handle such large data, analyze it and can get better results. Long before the term big data emerged, Europe already had a pioneer in the field Alan Turing, the British mathematician who broke Nazi Germany s Enigma code and is widely viewed as the father of modern computing and algorithms. Loss Oriented Stressors Death has always been and will be a topic that just a few want to talk, but since time immemorial man has worshiped their dead, and this is reflected in the various rituals and forms of burial. The anguish of death has been considered the deepest anguish of man. Death is the inevitable companion of life, is the final stage. It can occur at any age, suddenly or after a long illness. Despite knowing that someday we will have to die the deathof a loved one is a terrible fact, very difficult to accept, that affects everyone around the deceased person. The process model of coping with bereavement identified two types of stressors related to bereavement: loss oriented stressors and restoration oriented stressors. The performance was a series of different dance numbers that used different elements of sound and movements to promote their ideas. The first dance was called Dance with Two Army Blankets. The dance used old army blankets as props to throw the dancers around the stage. Often, the blankets were used to throw these dancers away from other people who they were trying to reach, as if their experiences with war made it difficult for them to connect with others. This danced was followed by Jack, a dancebetween two men and played around with all the fairy tales and rhymes that were about men named Jack. One of the most effective ways to implement efficient fleet planning and increase profitability is to purchase modern and fuel efficient aircraft. Typically, when placing an order for new aircraft, airline companies utilize options, which enable them to purchase additional airliners at an agreed upon rate in the future (Kodukula Papudesu, 2006). In this manner, airlines are able to update their fleet and invest into modern aircraft while postponing the acquisition of additional airliners until the efficiency of the aircraft model and its suitability to a particular market have been ascertained. It needs to be stressed that, with regards to selecting the most efficient aircraft, different types of airline will utilize different fleet planning strategies. Thus, non scheduled carriers, cargo operators, low cost carriers, and leasing companies will apply different criteria with regards to fleet planning (Clark, 2012). In this section, the present report focuses on major U.S. airlines such as American Airlines, Delta Airlines, and United Airlinesto examine strategies mobilized by airline companies when purchasing new aircraft. She is similar to Jesus because both of them walk on water. Another time she is symbolized as Jesus is during the chapters, Crown of Thorns and Resurrection. Even the chapter titles represent Jesus because he wore a crown of thorns and was resurrected from the dead. In Resurrection Gordie Kashpaw, June s husband, imagines June is resurrected like Jesus, and he hits her while driving. Although in reality, Gordie hits a deer, but because he has guilt for treating June badly during their time together, he imagines he hits June. Another literary element in Love Medicine is theme. Two themes from this novel are family and assimilation. The family relationships of the Kashpaws are so important and confusing in this novel. It is demonstrated by the family tree diagram in the beginning of the novel. The author would not have put the diagram there, if family is not an important. The concept of framing which is a part of prospect theory (Kahneman and Tversky 1979) is closely related to the formation of reference price in the consumer s mind. Outcomes above the consumer s reference point are presented as gains and it affects choice, judgment, and risk taking differently than the same alternatives which are below the reference point and are coded as losses by the consumer. In extant literature, there have been efforts to explain the framing effects of sales promotionby referring to mental accounting theory. Thaler and Johnson (1986) have proposed that consumers use hedonic rules to edit their mental accounts, therefore when they see a small gain (e.g., pricediscount) relative to a big loss (e.g., purchasing cost), they prefer to separate them psychologically into two different accounts rather than integrate them. This is the silver lining principle (based on prospect theory) and it also says that utility functions are concave for gains and convex for losses, and the curve for losses is steeper than that for gains. Because the size of a promotionis usually small relative to the purchasing cost, consumers should create a new account for the promotion rather than integrate it into the purchasing cost, regardless of the promotional types. This proposed study aims to use mental accounting theory and sales framing concepts to upgrading promotions and compare the attractiveness of non monetary promotions versus price discount promotions in a ... Factors That V Leiden Thrombophilia Factor V Leiden Thrombophilia Thrombophilia is a disorder that contains several genetic components that can cause an individual to form arterial and venous thrombi more readily. Many serious medical complications can result from thrombus formations that are often times fatal. In fact, a venous thromboembolism (VTE) is relatively common and a thrombosis of the deep veins of the legs or pelvis can lead to morbidity and mortality. Small portions of this patient population even develop pulmonary emboli (PE), which can be fatal. This major medical problem affects 1 in 1,000 persons per year and approximately 1 in 130 Americans younger than age 65 develop a VTE (Crow, 2003; Kujovich, 2011). Interestingly enough, inherited thrombophilia can be identified in half of the patients presenting with VTE (Kujovich, 2011). In 1993, European investigators Dahlback and his colleagues recognized a new mechanism for familial thrombophilia. Their research was initiated in order to investigate the cause for a number of young adults that presented with VTE, who had a family history of thrombosis but no detectable genetic link. As a result, a previously unrecognized mechanism associated with activated protein C resistance (APCR) was found Factor V Leiden mutation (Crow, 2003). • 32. Essay On Young Adults Under The Drinking Age The drinking age The whole world can approve that alcohol should not be given to children or young adults under a certain age. Alcohol is very dangerous and if abused the consequences can be dangerous. All behaviors and experiences you endure until the age of 25 have the potential to impact your developing brain (Mental Health Daily 2015). States lowered their age for drinking alcoholonly to find an increase in motor vehicle deaths. In 1984, Congress passed the Uniform Drinking Age Act, which required states to have a minimum drinking age of 21 for all alcohol consumption if they wanted to receive federal highway funds (APIS). Consumption of alcohol under the age of 21 is forbidden due to the dangerous side effects. In fact, Hunt (1975) states that since the ground patterns of the two regions are similar, salt can be thought of as the warm form of ice. In the saltpan of Death Valley and the surrounding floodplain similarities of patterned ground between these two types of regions can be seen, and will be further described in this paper. Patterned Ground of Death Valley: The patterned ground morphologies, characteristic of playa environments, which formed as a result of the expansion and contraction of saline rich sediments, are similar to such crack morphologies seen in periglacial environments, as a result of freeze thaw cycles. In periglacial environments the extent of development of patterned grounds is proportional to the intensity of frost action, while in playa environments; the extent of patterned ground is proportional to salt content (Hunt, et. al.; 1966). The prominent patterned ground morphology among colder climates is ice wedge polygons that develop on the permanently frozen ground. Similarly to the permanently frozen grounds of periglacial environments, a salt hardened ground in a playa environment can develop extensive polygonal crack morphologies (Hunt, et. al.; 1966). In desert regions, such as Death Valley, desiccation cracks that lead to the formation of polygonal systems are the most prominent crack morphologies. The outer region consists of the cornea and the sclera [4]. The sclera is a thick, opaque white tissue that covers 95% of the surface area of the eye . The sclera forms a connective tissue coat that protects the eye from internal and external forces and maintains its shape. The cornea and the sclera are connected at the limbus. Wicca and Wiccan Practitioners Essay Wicca one of the most recognizable pagan religions today in the USA and Great Britain is also unfortunately, like many pagan religions, still greatly misunderstood by the general population: mainly due to the media s often inaccurate or highly skewed presentation of Wicca and Wiccan practitioners. This inaccurate depiction of Wiccaand Wiccans often leads to people lumping Wiccans together with occultists and Satanists and all the negative connotations that surround those words. Luckily, Wiccans are neither occultist nor Satanists. Instead Wiccans are part witch part pagans whose unique beliefs, traditions, and practices set them apart from other witches and pagans. A large part of being a Wiccan is also being a witch. But what exactly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this does not mean we are all witches; in order to be a witch one must self identify as a witch. Other types of magic can include healing, protection, divination, etc. Also it is important to note that while all Wiccans are witches, not all witches are Wiccans as witches can be of any faith. Another key aspect of being a Wiccan is being a pagan or neopagan. As defined by Prudence Jones from the Pagan Federation International, pagan is a term used to describe a follower of a polytheistic or pantheistic nature worshipping religion, while neopagan is a term used to describe those whose religions, as Eric A. Powell states in his article Solstice at the Stones, consist of modern beliefs inspired by ancient religious practices (36). According to Jones, the term neopagan is also used to describe all those [religions] who are recognisably [sic] Pagan, but who do not adhere to any of the standard [pagan] traditions. However, since most pagans today are actually neopagans as Powell explains, modern pagans are more interested in evolving and cultivating their own practices rather than trying to emulate traditional, ancient practices (41) often neopagans are simply referred to as pagans. According Jones, besides finding nature sacred, many pagan religions are polytheistic with many believing in at least a god and a goddess. Again it is important to note that while all Wiccans are pagans, not all pagans are Wiccans. For example, according to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. The Novel The Spirit Level I Came Into Inequality While reading The Spirit Level I came into conclusion that the inequality in developed countries is great threat to society as a whole. The major issues that are brought up in the book are the inequality between the rich and the poor in developed countries but also the comparison between developing countries. The book dives into several factors that are the effects of the inequality ranging from obesity, teenage birth, life expectancy etc.... I would discuss in depth on each of these factors and how they all are key components in society and how they add to the inequality in developed countries. One of the first factors the book brings up is the issue of trust and how it is a main factor in society, trust is what keeps us from not turning on each other and seeing others as cooperative rather than competitive. According to the book trust has fallen from a high 60 percent from 1960 to a low of less than 40 percent in 2004 , this facts gives insight into the society we are living in now. When I read this, I could only think of the mindset many people have now, job security is tight and that everyone is seen as competition. I for one living in America I always have a sense that everyone wants to be on top, and they are willing to do everything to get the job or position, instead of trying to change the way of selfishness, we are adding to it, especially with social media. Social media has it pros but it has very damaging cons, ideas of self worth and values are being shoved ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Pros And Cons Of Owning A Gun Ethical Side Freedom: The main ethical debate is that gun ownership revolves around the freedom to bear arms. In the second amendment from the Bill of Rights, the founding fathers wrote that A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. This gives anyone (as long as they are not a convicted criminal) the unalienable right to possess a firearm. In a democracy, we should not have to justify owning a gun. If we need one for protection, hunting, or just because I have an interest in collecting firearms. It is really none of the governments concern on why we have them unless someone plans on using them the wrong way. Anyway, there are people who think that the government should ban something because of some people who abuse it. Why not ban alcohol? Or cigarettes? Or even cars? All of those have caused more causalities than gun ownership. Protection: Criminals exist, so I must protect myself. End of the discussion. Education services, mental health evaluators, and even our law enforcement can t stop all violence because neither enforcement nor prevention will work one hundred percent. That s why we have to take it on ourselves to protect ourselves and the ones we love. We need more law abiding citizens. We could possibly have less mass shootings, if the average properly trained citizen would provide such a defense to thwart the attacker. The idea of more guns to protect ... • 57. operation overlord Essay Operation Overlord By 1944 World War II had lasted nearly four and a half years. The entire war now depended on the success or failure of an invasion of France. The first three years of the war had almost entirely been a chain of Nazi victories. They had succeeded in crushing Poland and forcing France to surrender. Hitler s attempts at capturing England were halted by the RAF, Royal Air Force. After the devastating Japanese attackon Pearl Harbor, Hitler declared war on the United States and forced Italy to follow. By November of 1942 Hitler began to pay for his string of mistakes. In Egypt his favorite General, Field ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of the British commanders in attendance had served in the first World War and were weary of sending mass amounts of troops into a battle where the enemy may be laying and waiting for them. The plan was complicated, precise and heavily relied on the element of surprise. Timing and coordination were of great importance, a failure at one of the hundred points could send the whole balanced plan in to chaos. The first assault wave would have eight division, close to 80,000 men. Three of the eight divisions, 1 of Britain and two of the United States, would be airborne paratroopers and glider troops that would be dropped at night. The other five divisions would be Infantry divisions and would land on five beaches at the crack of dawn. After the Atlantic Wall had been broken by the first assault and a stable beachhead was obtained, more than thirty nine divisions would rapidly pour in. Capturing a strong hold of a beachhead was crucial to the success of the invasion. The beachhead would need to be able to hold back the inevitable counterattack of strong German forces. A port would have to be seized to be able to supply necessary supplies for land invasion. A strategic drop was to be made at the Contentin Peninsula of Normandy because its North was Cherbourg a major harbor. Unless this mission was successful, supplies would have to be shipped through open invasion beaches subject to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 58. The Plaza Was Owned By The Aggressive And Ambitious Sohel... The Plaza was owned by the aggressive and ambitious Sohel Rana, who exploited his political connections to acquire illegal permits and bribe government officials to get approval construction. He had extra floors built without obtaining the proper permits or approval from the local government authorities. Sohel Rana (like building owners in general) was able to take advantage of the loopholes in the system through his ties to political allies and his wealth. Not only did he ensure that inspections were rarely performed, but was also able to bribe officials to build on a rejected, unsuitable plot of land, to add additional floors to the building, and to persuade workers to enter the building despite the cracks and warnings from engineers. Also, he allegedly remarked to the media on the same day that the cracks were a trivial matter. Rana Plaza was built after taking permission from the Savar Mayor (who, like Rana was also an Awami League member) a person with no legal authority to issue this permit. According to Emdadul Islam, chief engineer of the state run Capital Development Authority, the owner of the building had permission for only a five storey building from the local municipality. The illegal extension by a further three stories was overlooked by the authorities due to Rana s political connections (affiliation with ruling Awami League party). Rana brought paid gang members to beat the workers (both male and female), hitting them with sticks to force them to enter the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
