I was very excited when I saw that Core/ El Centro is looking for summer interns. They have
made so many meaningful improvements in the lives of families of the Southside Milwaukee
community. As a child, I used to live off Windlake and Becher. In high school, I performed with
the Modjeska Youth Theatre on 11th and Mitchell. In college, I choreographed, taught dance, and
stage managed for the theatre as well. I feel the best way to appreciate other cultures is through art
and food.
Farmers markets serve as an excellent community center to bring families together around food, and
this internship position can use this key setting show families how delicious, easy, and affordable
healthy eating can be. At UWM, I have done many food demonstrations for faculty, students, and
athletes, and created accompanying education handouts connecting food to improved health. I use

Last September, I began teaching a nutrition education class through the Wauwatosa Recreation
Department for students aged 5 10, called Move Cook Eat. We start out with movement yoga,
