2. What is Juvenile crime?
Juvenile crime / Juvenile offending, is the act of
participating in unlawful behaviour as a “minor”.

3. Types of Juvenile crime
Property crimes :
damaging other
person’s belongings
Drug crimes :
Possession / use of
illegal substances.
Violent crimes : acts that
causes physical harm to
another person
Status Offences : behavior illegal
only for minors (e.g , underage
drinking and truancy)

4. Causes of Juvenile crime
Family issues: Lack of supervision,
neglect, abuse or criminal parents can
increase risk.
Mental health : Undiagnosed or
untreated conditions like ADHD
,depression, or anxiety can contribute.
Academic struggles : Poor performance
or dropping out of school can lead to
frustration and delinquency.
Substance abuse : Exposure to drugs
or alcohol can cloud judgment and lead
to risky behaviour.

5. Socioeconomic disadvantage : Property lack of
opportunity and exposure to violence can lead to
crime.
Community Factors
Media Portrayal : excessive violation /
glorification of crime can also lead to this.

Early invention is key : Strong families,
positive role models and quality
education can prevent crime .
Community support programs :
mentorship, after school activities and
mental health resources e crucial.
Addressing root causes: Tackling
poverty, improving neighbourhoods,
and reforming the juvenile justice
system.

10. Juvenile justice
system
The juvenile justice system is
designed to be less punitive than
the adult criminal justice system.
It’s goal is rehabilitate juveniles and
prevent them from becoming future
criminals.
Juvenile Courts may order a variety
of sanctions, such as probation,
Community service, or confinement
in a juvenile detention facility.
