Sherlock Holmes Personality
While the reasons for Sherlock Holmes popularity in the nineteenth century and the beginning of the
twentieth are comprehensible enough in the light of the abovementioned facts, the explanation for
Sherlock`s continuing success requires a more detailed analysis. Many characters that were popular at
the time of their creation are forgotten today; at the same time some images developed hundreds of
years ago are still famous and have become iconic in modern culture. Such characters as Batman,
Robin Hood, Harry Potter, Hobbits, and definitely Sherlock Holmes are the obvious examples of such
phenomena of popularity.
According to the plot created by Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes worked as a detective for 23 years,
living in Victorian London on Baker ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the development of psychological and psychiatric fields, where statistics show that practically
every fifth person suffers from depression, and every second sufferer needs the help of a
psychotherapist, the topic of mental disorders is very popular and in some way even fashionable
nowadays. Many researchers and Sherlock s fans started searching for mental problems in the
detective`s personality which can explain his eccentric behavior. The possible symptoms vary from
Asperger s Syndrome and autism to Bi polar disorder and schizophrenia (Kalogjera Sackellares 96
98). The question whether Sherlock really had psychological problems or Conan Doyle just wanted to
make his character more multi faceted concerns a lot of Holmes`s

Off Balance Sheet Financing Practices
The traditional accounting methods have been replaced by a number of new accounting techniques.
Some of which are observable while other remain hidden. Off Balance Sheet Financing or OBSF is
one of these new accounting techniques. It is a mode of obtaining finance for a business without
disclosing significant capital expenditures on the balance sheet of a company by means of using
different ways of classifying such expenses. OBSF is most of the times used by business enterprises to
maintain their leverage or gearing positions in such a way which would not have any negative
implications on the company. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, these expectations pose pressure on the management to find ways which may result in
better presentation of the financial statements and improved earnings (Boot and Thakor 1991). The
Banking sector in particular and other sectors in general are mostly seen following this approach. As
for instance, there has been observed a trend of investing in such portfolios and instruments which are
regarded as high risk investments. But the intention behind this is to improve or strictly stating inflate
the earnings of an enterprise without having regard to the riskiness of such investment decisions and
the fact that the stakeholders of the business need justification of such improvements in the
performance in the form of financial statements disclosures. For the purposes of obtaining security on
the risky investments, corporations tend to enter into complex third party arrangements which cannot
be disclosed in the financial statements. Apart from this, one other motivating factor which is regarded
as the major reason behind this approach of management is that they have their own interests and
objectives. As for instance, managers are better off in their performance appraisals when the company
is showing profits consistently (Boone and Raman 2001).
The practices of off balance sheet financing and accounting, as stated earlier, comprise of operating
leases, joint venture and collaborations with respect to R amp;D. Among these options,

CJ Environmental And Sustainability Statement
I am pleased and honoured to address you for this presentation of the CJ Environmental Sustainability
Statement. This is an important step for Currimjee Jeewanjee and our companies.
On the onset, I wish to point out that environmental and sustainability initiatives are not new to us.
Indeed, over the years several environmental projects have been undertaken by our companies. A few
examples are the installation of a photovoltaic system for la regie of MC Vision, cell site battery
regeneration at Emtel, rain water collection at CPMD MC Vision, and paperless reporting in most
units. Also, our staffs have participated in good numbers in the recent Clean Up Mauritius campaigns,
and we have keenly celebrated this years environmental day with an awareness workshop.
At the same time, we must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
 Continually monitor and improve our environmental performance and support customers ,
employees , partners , and other stakeholders environmental and sustainability progress.
These strong commitments endorsed by Currimjee Jeewanjee speak for themselves.
In fact, these powerful words clearly crystallize our environmental pledges, and they must become one
of Currimjee Jeewanjee s paradigms for years to come.
Fellow Directors and Executives
I take this opportunity to thank senior management of our units, members of the task force and our
staff in general for their keen participation and commitment to the environmental and sustainability
initiative. Given our talents and personal contributions, I have no doubt that our sustainability
engagements will positively evolve into a second nature for all of us, and become an integral part of
the CJ way of doing things. Furthermore, as any improvement is a never ending journey, I look
forward for the continual refinement of our environmental pledges to be a dynamic and living
responsibility for all of

The Depiction Of Zeus By Hesiod
The Depiction of Zeus The mythological character and God, Zeus, is portrayed in many ways, by
many different people. Hesiod describes Zeus as being relentless in his fury. When he gets mad he
unleashes all of his power. If his brother Hades wasn t in charge of the Underworld, he d make all of
Hell break loose. For example, in Hesiod s Theogony, which is about when Zeus defeated his father,
Cronus, he says, Then Zeus did not hold back any longer, but now immediately his heart was filled
with strength and he showed clearly all his force. (Morford and Lenardon 85) He tends to treat others,
mortals and immortals, very unfairly. Two mortals could do the same exact type of sacrilege towards
him, and depending on how he felt that day, he would take two very different approaches to how he
would treat them. He also doesn t take any threats towards him very lightly at all. If anyone ever
threatens him, he normally punishes them very severely, if he doesn t destroy them completely. Hesiod
s approach to Zeus behavior is overdramatic, and makes it seem more extreme than it probably would
ve been.
In Hesiod s stories of the Ages of Creation, some of the humans were like gods, but those created in
the Age of Bronze and the Age of Iron were terrible. They supposedly performed the painful and
violent deeds of Ares. Those in the Iron Age were constantly given troubles by the gods, and they are
randomly destroyed in the night.
Ovid s perspective of Zeus is completely opposite of that of

The Pros And Cons Of Iwo Jima
The taking of the island of Iwo Jima was one of the most difficult and costly campaigns for the U.S.
during World War II. After the battle was over, the decision to take the island was heavily scrutinized
by the public, military officials, and members of the press. Many people felt that the island s
advantages were not worth the blood that was shed taking it. There are a select few historians who
believe that this campaign was not intended to be a strategic advantage against Japan but that it was a
competition between the different branches of the armed forces. Historian Robert Burrell feels that
this island was used as a testing ground for the various branches of the armed forces and as a test for
new war tactics. Although the taking of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During World War II this island was heavily defended by twenty three thousand Japanese troops in an
elaborate system of underground tunnels. This island also served as an early warning station for allied
bomber raids and provided a base for Japanese bombers to intercept the incoming bombers. The U.S
believed that the island would be able to be taken in a few weeks time due to the fact that it looked
very un fortified from aerial photos. This, however, was a grave mistake. The Japanese General,
Tadamichi Kuribayashi, had built the underground tunnels for the effect of making the island look
vulnerable. Knowing that defeat was unavoidable, the General had created the entrenchments to inflict
as many casualties as possible on the U.S before they captured the island, and to discourage the U.S
from attacking Japan. The fight for control of Iwo Jima lasted thirty eight days. Over that course of
time the U.S. lost almost six thousand Marines with another eighteen thousand men wounded. The
Japanese however lost around twenty one thousand men. This was the only battle during the war with
Japan when the U.S. suffered more casualties than the Japanese. Being one of the bloodiest battles of
the war, the taking of Iwo Jima served as a valuable lesson for the upcoming Okinawa campaign. In
the weeks following, the battle fell under heavy scrutiny from the press and the public. Many viewed
it as an unnecessary fight and loss of

Terror Management Theory applied to Ageism in Film
Ageism (prejudice toward the elderly) is becoming a pressing issue as the population of adults over
sixty proliferates (Levy Macdonald, 2016, p. 5). Enforcers of ageist stereotypes include the
mainstream film industry. By enforcing a negative stereotype, the media subconsciously implements
fear of growing old and ultimately dying among its viewers. To begin eliminating stereotypes research
of origins of these ageist views must take place. Terror Management Theory (TMT) has been a leading
theory in ageist attitudes research (Martens, Goldenberg Greenberg, 2005; O Connor McFadden, ...

224). These symbolic solutions may also create a sense of mortality for the individual by contributing
to a culture that will continue after their death, i.e., they are immortal (Popham, Kennison Bradley,
2011, 752). Research shows that putting faith in religion makes individuals less vulnerable to
mortality salience and death thoughts (Wojtkowiak, Rutjens, 2011). Therefore, the solution of
immortality creates a resolution for death thoughts but in turn is a coping mechanism to avoid
thoughts of our mortality as well.
Ageism in Young Adults
Ageism, in correlation with TMT, stems from an innate fear of death causing individuals to distance
themselves from the elderly. Ageism refers to the discrimination and prejudice to a specific age group,
mainly used to describe discrimination toward the elderly. When coupled with TMT, ageism develops
in people via coping against mortality salience and denying the body s physicality (Martens,
Goldenberg Greenberg, 2005, p. 226; O Connor McFadden, 629, 2012). Humans innately fear to die,
and aging is the path toward death thus, the fear of aging results. When individuals interact with the
elderly, they see an inescapable fate of their own. Now, ageism, coupled with TMT, is a culmination of
many fears toward aging. Martens, Goldenberg and Greenberg (2005) propose the main factors
contributing toward ageism include the threat

The Paintings On The Ceiling Of The Sistine Chapel
One of the most famous painter and sculptors of the Italian Renaissance, the age of renewal and
cultural achievement circa 1500, was the artistic genius Michelangelo Buonarroti. The man that
desired nothing but perfection often reached it in his work. He captured the motion of the human
figure and the anatomy of muscles in a way that was increasingly beautiful and startlingly realistic.
Whether because of one of the most famous sculptures in history, the David or the paintings on the
ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, that became the textbook examples for the art period of High
Renaissance, Michelango s art changed the world and he will continue to be studied with awe
throughout history.
Michelangelo s era, the Renaissance was not a time of great social or economic change, only cultural
and ideological development because it only affected a small portion of the population, which were
the rich and powerful scholars that had more surplus money to spend on luxury goods like art and
architecture. One of these families the Medicis rose to prominence and held the position of the
Florence s leading family for three centuries. The Medici family controlled the republican government
and were the unquestioned leaders, Lorenzo the Magnificent the last to hold power and first Medici to
be educated in the humanist tradition and was known as an important patron of the arts; Lorenzo gave
Michelangelo the chance to become the magnificent artist he was. The humanist movement, one that

Disadvantages Of Municipal Bonds
Municipal Bonds If you are a socially conscious investor, or someone who is interested a tax free
investment, municipal bonds may be a good fit for you. Since municipalities must operate on a budget,
and due to the limits of taxation and fees, the list of infrastructure upgrades often goes unfunded.
Unless some gracious benefactor makes a donation, cities usually tap the capital markets for funding
by issuing munis (municipal bonds). There are two different types of municipal bond structures.
General obligation bonds are supported by sales tax or property tax. Revenue bonds are supported by
the income derived directly from the project those financed. There are also double barreled bonds,
which is a hybrid supported by the municipalities creditworthiness and also project revenue. Unlike
corporate bonds where $1,000.00 is the most common face value, munis are issued with a minimum
denomination of $5,000.00. Maybe an important bridge in your city is structurally unsound, and it will
cost $20 million to repair it. Rather than waiting for the end of year taxes to come in, the municipality
decides to issue 4,000 munis with a face value of $5,000.00 each. To make the offering competitive
with other comparable bonds in the market the city decides to sell five year bonds with an annual
coupon of 5%. Instead of increasing taxes the city uses the tolls to pay off the bonds. Since revenue
from the project was used to pay the bonds those are revenue bonds. As you can see,

The Main Factors Of The Democratic Breakdowns And Which...
To explain the different approaches to the democratic breakdowns and which are the factors that
enlighten this phenomenon it is been highly important in the comparative literature, because it allows
us to observe and give reasons about the different process of the countries in their political
development. One of the question that we must answer for this week reading is: One of the classic
accounts of democratic breakdown, by Juan Linz, argues that Breakdown is the result of processes
initiated by the government s incapacity to solve problems for which the disloyal oppositions offer
themselves as a solution. Based on this week s readings and your knowledge of cases, do you agree?
My primary approach to this is that I am partially agree ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the main reason why the people start to create private association activities to find solutions to
the issues that the state cannot resolve (Berman, 1997). I think this I the central reason why the
Weimar Republic fails, with a weak government the civil society was forced to developed itself for
achieving particular wellbeing, the state was the organization which does not create the conditions to
work united. I think this argument is more coherent because includes the economic influences. If the
economy is weak in a country is related to decisions made by the government. Even though we live in
a time where the idea of free market and capitalism is highly applied by states, it is also truth that the
states have an influential role in the economy, choosing policies that improve or decrease their
economic growth. Even further, institutions are created to reduce uncertainty by stablishing a stable
(but not necessarily efficient) structure to human interaction (North, 1990, p. 6), thus economic
interaction is also a kind of behavior that must be regulated by the state through institutions which are
the humanly devised constraints (North, 1990, p.3), thus if they are not working correctly in the
economic, social, political realm is more likely to have a democracy breakdown. I think in this
direction we must to understand the argument of Slater, Smith Nair (2014) remark that the

My Brother Sam is Dead Soundtrack
My Brother Sam is Dead by Christopher Collier and James Lincoln Collier relates to 99 Red Balloons
by Nena, Get Up by Superchick, and Wavin Flag by K naan through some of the lyrics. 99 Red
Balloons tells about a war and the lyrics relate to Susannah (Mother), Life (Father), Sam, and Tim

eager Sam is for war; he wants to fight. The line: To worry, worry, super scurry tells how worried

Crime In Milwaukee Case Study
The crimes in Milwaukee are becoming a big thing for everyone and it s putting Milwaukee higher

in Milwaukee and in every city around the world but lately the crime in Milwaukee has been getting
out of control and it s beginning to become a very unsafe place for everyone. The probability of being
a victim in a violent crime is 1 in 16. That s not good and we can definitely improve this and make
Milwaukee once again a better place. The most problematic areas in Milwaukee are the North and
East sides. These issues are affecting everyone living in these areas, not only mentally as they re so
afraid that something will happen to them but also physically as so many innocent residents have been
shot and killed or were put in very critical conditions from gunshot wounds. This is primarily due to
stray bullets hitting them or being in the wrong place at the wrong time when a dispute is ... Show

The first solution is to establish a neighborhood watch team for the most troubled neighborhoods.
Security equipment can be equipped around the blocks and it can be monitored on a shift basis by
willing locals. The price would be little to nothing if residents are very passionate in keeping their
neighborhood a safe place, they can work for free and in return they will have a secure neighborhood.
Security equipment can be either paid for by the city or the watch team can crowdfund for the funds to
pay for it all. Benefits for this solution will include less crime, criminals won t act as much knowing
that now someone is watching them, and new people can move into the neighborhoods. Some major
drawbacks that this can probably cause is residents not taking job seriously and lying about their shifts
since they are not being paid for it, and maybe even seeing crimes take place but being paid off to not

Analysis Of Poem The Conqueror Of Hearts
3. 3: Content Analysis
Poetry is a compact language that expresses complex feelings. To understand the multiple meanings of
a poem, the researcher must analyze his words and phrases from the perspectives of the rhythm of
sound, the images, the obvious meaning and implied meanings.
Convinced of the power of poetry and its revolutionizing effect on human thought, Iqbal chose to
make his poetry a vehicle of a life giving philosophy which he considered to be the only panacea for
human ills. As a true idealist philosopher, he sincerely believed that thought comes first and the war of

Jerry Goldsmith Accomplishments
Jerry Goldsmith is a well known name when it comes to the musical world. As an American composer
and conductor he has composed many pieces of music and films. His music is one of a kind it always
gets your attention. I chose Jerry Goldsmith because I enjoyed some of the films he created music for.
He was one of the best in his time. Jerry was born on February 10th 1929 in Pasadena California. His
original name was Jerrald King Goldsmith and was the son of Tessa Rappaport and Morris Goldsmith.
By the age of six his parents had him studying the piano and gave him lessons by the age of thirteen
with Polish Pianist Jakob Gimpel. He attended Dorsey High School. At the age of sixteen Alfred

He died from cancer on July 21, 2004, in Beverly Hills, California. Jerry completed his last score in
2003 for Looney Tunes: Back in Action. Throughout his entire career he was nominated for the
Academy Award eighteen times, the Grammy Award six times, and the Golden Globe Award four
times. Goldsmith also won an Oscar for his revolutionary score for The Omen and he received five
Emmy Awards. The few music films I enjoy by Goldsmith is Planet of the Apes, the Star Trek series
and Looney Tunes: Back in Action. In Planet of the Apes he did an amazing job with the piano giving
it much sound effects. This movie is one of the most memorable movie moments in the history of
cinema because of Jerry Goldsmith s ground breaking musical contribution. Goldsmith s musical
piece focuses on the drama that the apes experienced in modern day America, with both Zia and
Cornelius getting a delicate melody all to themselves. Planet of the Apes later became a sequel. Jerry
Goldsmith made many pieces of music for the Star Trek series. He composed Star Trek: The Motion
Picture, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Star Trek: First Contact with his son Joel Goldsmith, Star
Trek: Insurrection, and Star Trek: Nemesis. I thought it was great that him and his son came together
and created an amazing piece. Their score to Star Trek: First Contact was amazing to me. It was a

is guarding me. The time we went to the championship i was the first person to score the first five
points in that game. I know how to dunk while playing basketball. I know how to because i can jump
high and throw it in the hoop. But how you play you have to five people on each team. I am always by

Angels in America by Tony Kushner
Queer Theory is the best approach by which to examine Angels in America because using Queer
Theory allows us to see/ illuminates the difference between socially constructed gender and sexual
acts based on sexual identity. Queer theory argues that gender is a cultural construct, that the social
norms of men being masculine and women being feminine were manipulated as a culture to be seen as
normal. In Angel in America, Roy Cohn is an attorney with power in his work place; he expresses a
strong masculine character with clout , strong political power. He mentions that he is a powerful man
and how with only a few phone calls he is able to get a hold of the president. These are expectations of
how a masculine male is supposed to act, with power, confidence, and without fear. Being a man of
politics, Roy lives up to the expectations of what society believes a strong man is supposed to be and
how he is supposed to behave. When he goes to see his doctor and he is told that he has AIDS, Roy
refuses to admit that he has AIDS and Homosexual. Roy tells his doctor, Henry, You Think these are
names that tell you who someone sleeps with, but they don t tell you that. (Pg. 51) He argues that his
identity is not homosexual because they do not have clout ; that he is a man of clout and has a lot of it.
Roy states, Homosexuals are men who know nobody and who nobody knows. Who have zero clout.
(Pg. 51) An example of Queer Theory, Roy tells his doctor that labels like Homosexual, Gay,

War Heroes Voices from Iraq
For my book report, I read the book War Heroes Voices from Iraq by Allan Zullo. The author
interviewed ten soldiers about the time they spent in Iraq. The book tells ten different real life stories
of soldiers and what amazing things they did in Iraq. The one thing all of these soldiers have in
common is that they thought they were just doing their jobs. These soldiers are true heroes because
each of them risked their own lives to save others and to protect our country. Even though a lot of
soldiers would do that, not all survive to tell about it. The book tells ten different stories about very
special heroes. I would like to tell you about my three favorite stories. The first of my favorite stories

Maine Corps. Marco was in the invasion of Iraq in 2003. He went to Bagdad to fight. Marco was sent
to the North of Bagdad to a small village called al Tarmiyah to do recon. Marco and his battalion ran
into the enemy. The marines were ambushed so his squad got out and ran 200 yards of terrain under
enemy fire. Marco s squad leader got hit by a piece of shrapnel and could not go on. Marco was next
in line to be the leader. Next, Marco and his squad went into one of the houses to kill the insurgents.
They cleared the house. Behind that house was a guesthouse. There were five terrorists in the
guesthouse. There were a few palm trees too. Marco ran behind one of the palm trees for cover. The
other marines of his squad were behind a narrow wall. Marco found a RPG on his way running for
cover behind the palm tree. He picked it up and tried to fire it at the enemy, but the RPG didn t work.
Marco then figured out the RPG had a dual trigger system. He figured it out, and fired it. Marco killed
the insurgents and earned the Navy Cross. I liked this story because Marco s life was screwed up
before joining the military. When he wanted to join the military, Marco started working hard at school
and gave up getting in trouble. In the end, Marco earned a medal! Finally, my last favorite story is
called Ambushed! The story is about Corporal Jeremiah Workman. Jeremiah was a marine involved in

The Motivations Of Higher Education Students Essay

Decision Of Philadelphia The Constitutional Convention Of...
In the book Decision in Philadelphia the Constitutional Convention of 1787 by Christopher Collier
and James Collier present an exclusive glance at the creating of the Constitution and the events that
made the Constitution the way people know it today. Christopher and James Collier begin with
historical events that led up to Constitutional creation and a brief summation of the events that were
taking place in the country during that time frame. The background that they give provides a good
base for the information and allows the reader to see things through the eyes of someone living in the
time. During that period, there were many challenges facing America at the time that would have
collision on the constitutional convention and the outcomes that would shape the country. One of them
being that there was very poor transportation routes and that adversely affected communications. For
example the authors quote The few interstate roads that existed were frequently nothing more than
mile upon mile of mud wallow, cut by hundreds of streams, creeks, and rivers, most of which were
unbridged, so they had to be forded, or crossed by ferry (Collier, 1986, p.14). As a result, due to a lack
of this foundation it was very challenging and time consuming for the citizens with travel and
communication and diversity was usually unfamiliar to people. At the time people also faced
challenges such as the country was divided by religion, ethics, language differences, and majorly

Importance Of Information And Its Role For Managing Modern...
A) To begin with, Dretske Fred (1994) mentions that a role of information is To make this work the
idea information must be operational in such a way as to give semantic properties a role in information
system behaviours. This therefore suggests that businesses must use information to produce new
innovative ideas which could benefit their business for example new packaging of sweets will attract
customers to purchase the sweet and this could lead to an increase in sales. Moreover, Fawzy Soliman
(2003) cites that Critical information plays a key and essential role for managing modern
organisations, because of the large volumes of information and the resources required to process them,
it has become necessary to develop a scheme for the identification of critical information. The
characteristics of information that THB confectionery should use in their business are timeliness
which means that the information is available, frequency information is updated, appropriateness to
the task and the person performing the task, accuracy of the information, brevity the level of detail
appropriate for the task. Additionally, rarity which leads to unusual information, understandability of
information to person receiving it, action sufficient detail to initiate action by appropriate person and
lastly, presentation format of the information and degree of ambiguity. Nevertheless, Mohamed

couples, just married or taking the next step in their relationship. They don t have the financial
stability for anything big, but want to settle down and begin their life together somewhere. They
maybe want to start out in a home under $250,000. These people would most likely range from about

Dbq Mongol Empire Essay
Throughout history, empires have controlled vast expanses of the world. Yet no empire has ever
impacted the world s like the Mongols. Spanning from present day Russia to Korea, the Mongol
Empire ruled the Eurasian continent. By modern conventions, legacy is the gift or impact someone
leaves when they die. Noah Feldman once said, Empires inevitably fall, and when they do, history
judges them for the legacies they leave behind. Despite committing some of the greatest atrocities in
recorded history, the legacy of the Mongol Empire is also defined by their ingenious military
campaign, their establishment of Pax Mongolica, and their contribution to immense cross cultural
interaction on the Eurasian continent.

Pax Mongolica, meaning Mongol peace, was the period of time in which the empire controlled a
region spanning Russia to Korea. In doing so, the Mongols protected the silk road and boosted the
economy. In Charles Halperin s book Russia and the Golden Horde , he notes that the Mongols
expanded into China and Persia and that during this time, they built canals to improve communication
, sustained agriculture, and allowed and facilitated silk trade and Persian craft traditions for a long
period. Moreover, by establishing peace, they allowed the economy to flourish, indirectly and directly
altering the history of the political world. During this time, they also created communication systems
called Yams. Marco Polo stated that 200,00 horses are stabled at the post for the special use of
messengers . When established, Pax Mongolica created a system of transcontinental communication

Musical Theater History
Scotia Corley
6/17/16
Here is the history behind musical theater. The art of telling stories either through or with songs and
music dates back far in time. We know that ancient Greeks included music and dance in their stages of
comedy and tragedies as early as the 5th century B.C. We know that Aeschylus and Sophocles
composed their own music during that time while Athenian playwrights may have interpolated
existing songs. Roman actors attached metal chips called sabilla to their stage footwear; which became
the first tap shoes. In the 12th and 13th centuries, during the Middle Age, there was also a tradition of
religious dramas, such as The Play of Herod and The Play of Daniel. Intended as liturgical teaching
tools set to church chants, these plays developed into an autonomous form of musical theatre. By the
1700s, musical theater has made an huge impact on France, Great Britain, and Germany. ... Show

Some musicals have gone onto Broadway in New York. For instance, Legally Blonde, Lion King, and
Titanic. Other musicals have been made into films. Such as Wizard of Oz, Guys and Dolls, and
Godspell. And a lot of musicals from the 1900s till now has so many performances and has grown
very popular throughout the years. Since 2000, the all American musical comedy has made a stunning
comeback. With the triumph of The Full Monty, The Producers, Urinetown, Thoroughly Modern
Hairspray, critics and audiences have re embraced a genre that many had suspected to be dead.
Musicals have been inspired by movies for decades, but not with such concentrated success. These
musical comedies show tremendous promise, offering a happy blend of nostalgic pastiche and original
spoof. They have also turned long empty hopes into filled theater

Sexism And The Star System In Architecture Analysis
Sexism and the star system in architecture In her article, Denise Scott Brown brings to light her
personal experience as being a female architect and the sexism that she had come across. Brown
describes how sexism is not outright, as she states that many young female architects do not
understand the need for the feminist movement as they had never experienced such sexism in school.
Rather, sexism appeared through the words of architecture critics, in meetings, and architectural
magazines. Despite her impactful personal statement in the frustrations she felt in a gender
discriminated occupation, the article lacked context. Denise Scott Brown described her struggles with
her lack of acknowledgement and the internal struggles she felt: her waning sense of self worth and
displeasure from her growing hostile personality. Also, she was extremely thorough with her
description of how architecture critics used the star system to attribute all collaborated ideas to a
single entity. Yet, she does not really mention how sexism is a larger cultural issue, as she is too busy
emphasizing the sexism she faced in the workforce. I believe that adding cultural context would
broaden the article by revealing the motivation behind sexist attitudes. For example, with the critique

The question of What is History? is answered through philosophical questions. This led to many
tangents which could confuse readers and retract from the strength of the thesis. Furthermore, the
concept of history being based on facts almost seems to be refuted as the author states that facts are
not always concrete. An example of this is when the Carr mentions that articles are seen as a form of
fact, however, that documents only tell what the author of the document believed had happened. Such
a rebuttal causes confusion on whether to trust historic facts, as all as they seem to be all

Spilt Avocado Painting Analysis
The recreation of The Spilt Avocado Painting I viewed online is what I chose to recreate because the
image captured my eye due to the shadows that appear from the top light within the painting. While
looking at the painting you can see yourself staring in the direction the reflecting shadows from the
top light. The sources of the light coming from the left of the avocado forces the shadow to overlap on
top of the other slice, which ultimately draws the observer s attention to the colour of the avocado.
Although you might notice the colour of the avocado at first, the shadows indicate a calming mood
due to the placement of the light. Additionally, the shadow is showing the direction of light, which is
coming from which effects the shade of green the avocado might appear. This ... Show more content

Having to use an actual avocado to model and remake of this painting had its challenges. In addition, I
also did not have a blue surface to lay the avocados on to capture the same light reflection off the wall.
However, I did manage to capture most of the paintings elements in my picture recreation by the
placement of my desk lamp and by having my picture based on a white sheet of paper. I used a desk
lamp to be able to recreate the painting light sources through the direction I placed the light to create
the same shadows from the painting. The challenging part about using a desk lamp was trying to
figure out the right distance I needed to direct the light at the avocados to achieve the same shadows.
In addition, to the challenging things with the process of remaking the painting was to attain the same
position of the avocado to be able to capture the right colour intensity that displays the right
distribution of the avocado. Lastly, from all obstacles I was faced with while recreating The Split

  • 2. Sherlock Holmes Personality While the reasons for Sherlock Holmes popularity in the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth are comprehensible enough in the light of the abovementioned facts, the explanation for Sherlock`s continuing success requires a more detailed analysis. Many characters that were popular at the time of their creation are forgotten today; at the same time some images developed hundreds of years ago are still famous and have become iconic in modern culture. Such characters as Batman, Robin Hood, Harry Potter, Hobbits, and definitely Sherlock Holmes are the obvious examples of such phenomena of popularity. According to the plot created by Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes worked as a detective for 23 years, living in Victorian London on Baker ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the development of psychological and psychiatric fields, where statistics show that practically every fifth person suffers from depression, and every second sufferer needs the help of a psychotherapist, the topic of mental disorders is very popular and in some way even fashionable nowadays. Many researchers and Sherlock s fans started searching for mental problems in the detective`s personality which can explain his eccentric behavior. The possible symptoms vary from Asperger s Syndrome and autism to Bi polar disorder and schizophrenia (Kalogjera Sackellares 96 98). The question whether Sherlock really had psychological problems or Conan Doyle just wanted to make his character more multi faceted concerns a lot of Holmes`s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Off Balance Sheet Financing Practices Off Balance Sheet Financing Practices [Student Name] [Course Title] [Instructor Name] [Date] Off Balance Sheet Financing Practices The traditional accounting methods have been replaced by a number of new accounting techniques. Some of which are observable while other remain hidden. Off Balance Sheet Financing or OBSF is one of these new accounting techniques. It is a mode of obtaining finance for a business without disclosing significant capital expenditures on the balance sheet of a company by means of using different ways of classifying such expenses. OBSF is most of the times used by business enterprises to maintain their leverage or gearing positions in such a way which would not have any negative implications on the company. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, these expectations pose pressure on the management to find ways which may result in better presentation of the financial statements and improved earnings (Boot and Thakor 1991). The Banking sector in particular and other sectors in general are mostly seen following this approach. As for instance, there has been observed a trend of investing in such portfolios and instruments which are regarded as high risk investments. But the intention behind this is to improve or strictly stating inflate the earnings of an enterprise without having regard to the riskiness of such investment decisions and the fact that the stakeholders of the business need justification of such improvements in the performance in the form of financial statements disclosures. For the purposes of obtaining security on the risky investments, corporations tend to enter into complex third party arrangements which cannot be disclosed in the financial statements. Apart from this, one other motivating factor which is regarded as the major reason behind this approach of management is that they have their own interests and objectives. As for instance, managers are better off in their performance appraisals when the company is showing profits consistently (Boone and Raman 2001). The practices of off balance sheet financing and accounting, as stated earlier, comprise of operating leases, joint venture and collaborations with respect to R amp;D. Among these options, ... This is an important step for Currimjee Jeewanjee and our companies. On the onset, I wish to point out that environmental and sustainability initiatives are not new to us. Indeed, over the years several environmental projects have been undertaken by our companies. A few examples are the installation of a photovoltaic system for la regie of MC Vision, cell site battery regeneration at Emtel, rain water collection at CPMD MC Vision, and paperless reporting in most units. Also, our staffs have participated in good numbers in the recent Clean Up Mauritius campaigns, and we have keenly celebrated this years environmental day with an awareness workshop. Fellow Directors and Executives I take this opportunity to thank senior management of our units, members of the task force and our staff in general for their keen participation and commitment to the environmental and sustainability initiative. • 5. The Depiction Of Zeus By Hesiod The Depiction of Zeus The mythological character and God, Zeus, is portrayed in many ways, by many different people. Hesiod describes Zeus as being relentless in his fury. When he gets mad he unleashes all of his power. If his brother Hades wasn t in charge of the Underworld, he d make all of Hell break loose. For example, in Hesiod s Theogony, which is about when Zeus defeated his father, Cronus, he says, Then Zeus did not hold back any longer, but now immediately his heart was filled with strength and he showed clearly all his force. (Morford and Lenardon 85) He tends to treat others, mortals and immortals, very unfairly. Two mortals could do the same exact type of sacrilege towards him, and depending on how he felt that day, he would take two very different approaches to how he would treat them. He also doesn t take any threats towards him very lightly at all. If anyone ever threatens him, he normally punishes them very severely, if he doesn t destroy them completely. Hesiod s approach to Zeus behavior is overdramatic, and makes it seem more extreme than it probably would ve been. In Hesiod s stories of the Ages of Creation, some of the humans were like gods, but those created in the Age of Bronze and the Age of Iron were terrible. They supposedly performed the painful and violent deeds of Ares. Those in the Iron Age were constantly given troubles by the gods, and they are randomly destroyed in the night. Ovid s perspective of Zeus is completely opposite of that of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Pros And Cons Of Iwo Jima The taking of the island of Iwo Jima was one of the most difficult and costly campaigns for the U.S. during World War II. After the battle was over, the decision to take the island was heavily scrutinized by the public, military officials, and members of the press. Many people felt that the island s advantages were not worth the blood that was shed taking it. There are a select few historians who believe that this campaign was not intended to be a strategic advantage against Japan but that it was a competition between the different branches of the armed forces. Historian Robert Burrell feels that this island was used as a testing ground for the various branches of the armed forces and as a test for new war tactics. Although the taking of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During World War II this island was heavily defended by twenty three thousand Japanese troops in an elaborate system of underground tunnels. This island also served as an early warning station for allied bomber raids and provided a base for Japanese bombers to intercept the incoming bombers. The U.S believed that the island would be able to be taken in a few weeks time due to the fact that it looked very un fortified from aerial photos. This, however, was a grave mistake. The Japanese General, Tadamichi Kuribayashi, had built the underground tunnels for the effect of making the island look vulnerable. Knowing that defeat was unavoidable, the General had created the entrenchments to inflict as many casualties as possible on the U.S before they captured the island, and to discourage the U.S from attacking Japan. The fight for control of Iwo Jima lasted thirty eight days. Over that course of time the U.S. lost almost six thousand Marines with another eighteen thousand men wounded. The Japanese however lost around twenty one thousand men. This was the only battle during the war with Japan when the U.S. suffered more casualties than the Japanese. Being one of the bloodiest battles of the war, the taking of Iwo Jima served as a valuable lesson for the upcoming Okinawa campaign. In the weeks following, the battle fell under heavy scrutiny from the press and the public. Many viewed it as an unnecessary fight and loss of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Terror Management Theory Applied To Ageism In Film Terror Management Theory applied to Ageism in Film Frida Ramirez Lone Star College University Park Terror Management Theory applied to Ageism in Film Ageism (prejudice toward the elderly) is becoming a pressing issue as the population of adults over sixty proliferates (Levy Macdonald, 2016, p. 5). Enforcers of ageist stereotypes include the mainstream film industry. By enforcing a negative stereotype, the media subconsciously implements fear of growing old and ultimately dying among its viewers. To begin eliminating stereotypes research of origins of these ageist views must take place. Terror Management Theory (TMT) has been a leading theory in ageist attitudes research (Martens, Goldenberg Greenberg, 2005; O Connor McFadden, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 224). These symbolic solutions may also create a sense of mortality for the individual by contributing to a culture that will continue after their death, i.e., they are immortal (Popham, Kennison Bradley, 2011, 752). Research shows that putting faith in religion makes individuals less vulnerable to mortality salience and death thoughts (Wojtkowiak, Rutjens, 2011). Therefore, the solution of immortality creates a resolution for death thoughts but in turn is a coping mechanism to avoid thoughts of our mortality as well. Ageism in Young Adults Ageism, in correlation with TMT, stems from an innate fear of death causing individuals to distance themselves from the elderly. Ageism refers to the discrimination and prejudice to a specific age group, mainly used to describe discrimination toward the elderly. When coupled with TMT, ageism develops in people via coping against mortality salience and denying the body s physicality (Martens, Goldenberg Greenberg, 2005, p. 226; O Connor McFadden, 629, 2012). Humans innately fear to die, and aging is the path toward death thus, the fear of aging results. When individuals interact with the elderly, they see an inescapable fate of their own. Now, ageism, coupled with TMT, is a culmination of many fears toward aging. Martens, Goldenberg and Greenberg (2005) propose the main factors contributing toward ageism include the threat ... • 8. The Paintings On The Ceiling Of The Sistine Chapel One of the most famous painter and sculptors of the Italian Renaissance, the age of renewal and cultural achievement circa 1500, was the artistic genius Michelangelo Buonarroti. The man that desired nothing but perfection often reached it in his work. He captured the motion of the human figure and the anatomy of muscles in a way that was increasingly beautiful and startlingly realistic. Whether because of one of the most famous sculptures in history, the David or the paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, that became the textbook examples for the art period of High Renaissance, Michelango s art changed the world and he will continue to be studied with awe throughout history. Michelangelo s era, the Renaissance was not a time of great social or economic change, only cultural and ideological development because it only affected a small portion of the population, which were the rich and powerful scholars that had more surplus money to spend on luxury goods like art and architecture. One of these families the Medicis rose to prominence and held the position of the Florence s leading family for three centuries. The Medici family controlled the republican government and were the unquestioned leaders, Lorenzo the Magnificent the last to hold power and first Medici to be educated in the humanist tradition and was known as an important patron of the arts; Lorenzo gave Michelangelo the chance to become the magnificent artist he was. The humanist movement, one that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Disadvantages Of Municipal Bonds Municipal Bonds If you are a socially conscious investor, or someone who is interested a tax free investment, municipal bonds may be a good fit for you. Since municipalities must operate on a budget, and due to the limits of taxation and fees, the list of infrastructure upgrades often goes unfunded. Unless some gracious benefactor makes a donation, cities usually tap the capital markets for funding by issuing munis (municipal bonds). There are two different types of municipal bond structures. General obligation bonds are supported by sales tax or property tax. Revenue bonds are supported by the income derived directly from the project those financed. There are also double barreled bonds, which is a hybrid supported by the municipalities creditworthiness and also project revenue. Unlike corporate bonds where $1,000.00 is the most common face value, munis are issued with a minimum denomination of $5,000.00. Maybe an important bridge in your city is structurally unsound, and it will cost $20 million to repair it. Rather than waiting for the end of year taxes to come in, the municipality decides to issue 4,000 munis with a face value of $5,000.00 each. To make the offering competitive with other comparable bonds in the market the city decides to sell five year bonds with an annual coupon of 5%. Instead of increasing taxes the city uses the tolls to pay off the bonds. Since revenue from the project was used to pay the bonds those are revenue bonds. As you can see, ... To explain the different approaches to the democratic breakdowns and which are the factors that enlighten this phenomenon it is been highly important in the comparative literature, because it allows us to observe and give reasons about the different process of the countries in their political development. One of the question that we must answer for this week reading is: One of the classic accounts of democratic breakdown, by Juan Linz, argues that Breakdown is the result of processes initiated by the government s incapacity to solve problems for which the disloyal oppositions offer themselves as a solution. This is the main reason why the people start to create private association activities to find solutions to the issues that the state cannot resolve (Berman, 1997). I think this I the central reason why the Weimar Republic fails, with a weak government the civil society was forced to developed itself for achieving particular wellbeing, the state was the organization which does not create the conditions to work united. I think this argument is more coherent because includes the economic influences. If the economy is weak in a country is related to decisions made by the government. Even though we live in a time where the idea of free market and capitalism is highly applied by states, it is also truth that the states have an influential role in the economy, choosing policies that improve or decrease their economic growth. Even further, institutions are created to reduce uncertainty by stablishing a stable (but not necessarily efficient) structure to human interaction (North, 1990, p. 6), thus economic interaction is also a kind of behavior that must be regulated by the state through institutions which are the humanly devised constraints (North, 1990, p.3), thus if they are not working correctly in the economic, social, political realm is more likely to have a democracy breakdown. I think in this direction we must to understand the argument of Slater, Smith Nair (2014) remark that the bureaucracy which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The occasional crime has occurred in Milwaukee and in every city around the world but lately the crime in Milwaukee has been getting out of control and it s beginning to become a very unsafe place for everyone. The probability of being a victim in a violent crime is 1 in 16. That s not good and we can definitely improve this and make Milwaukee once again a better place. The most problematic areas in Milwaukee are the North and East sides. These issues are affecting everyone living in these areas, not only mentally as they re so afraid that something will happen to them but also physically as so many innocent residents have been shot and killed or were put in very critical conditions from gunshot wounds. The price would be little to nothing if residents are very passionate in keeping their neighborhood a safe place, they can work for free and in return they will have a secure neighborhood. Security equipment can be either paid for by the city or the watch team can crowdfund for the funds to pay for it all. Benefits for this solution will include less crime, criminals won t act as much knowing that now someone is watching them, and new people can move into the neighborhoods. Some major drawbacks that this can probably cause is residents not taking job seriously and lying about their shifts since they are not being paid for it, and maybe even seeing crimes take place but being paid off to not report it to the ... His music is one of a kind it always gets your attention. I chose Jerry Goldsmith because I enjoyed some of the films he created music for. He was one of the best in his time. Jerry was born on February 10th 1929 in Pasadena California. His original name was Jerrald King Goldsmith and was the son of Tessa Rappaport and Morris Goldsmith. Goldsmith also won an Oscar for his revolutionary score for The Omen and he received five Emmy Awards. The few music films I enjoy by Goldsmith is Planet of the Apes, the Star Trek series and Looney Tunes: Back in Action. In Planet of the Apes he did an amazing job with the piano giving it much sound effects. This movie is one of the most memorable movie moments in the history of cinema because of Jerry Goldsmith s ground breaking musical contribution. Goldsmith s musical piece focuses on the drama that the apes experienced in modern day America, with both Zia and Cornelius getting a delicate melody all to themselves. Planet of the Apes later became a sequel. Jerry Goldsmith made many pieces of music for the Star Trek series. He composed Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Star Trek: First Contact with his son Joel Goldsmith, Star Trek: Insurrection, and Star Trek: Nemesis. Angels in America by Tony Kushner Queer Theory is the best approach by which to examine Angels in America because using Queer Theory allows us to see/ illuminates the difference between socially constructed gender and sexual acts based on sexual identity. Queer theory argues that gender is a cultural construct, that the social norms of men being masculine and women being feminine were manipulated as a culture to be seen as normal. In Angel in America, Roy Cohn is an attorney with power in his work place; he expresses a strong masculine character with clout , strong political power. He mentions that he is a powerful man and how with only a few phone calls he is able to get a hold of the president. These are expectations of how a masculine male is supposed to act, with power, confidence, and without fear. Being a man of politics, Roy lives up to the expectations of what society believes a strong man is supposed to be and how he is supposed to behave. When he goes to see his doctor and he is told that he has AIDS, Roy refuses to admit that he has AIDS and Homosexual. Roy tells his doctor, Henry, You Think these are names that tell you who someone sleeps with, but they don t tell you that. (Pg. 51) He argues that his identity is not homosexual because they do not have clout ; that he is a man of clout and has a lot of it. A) To begin with, Dretske Fred (1994) mentions that a role of information is To make this work the idea information must be operational in such a way as to give semantic properties a role in information system behaviours. • 28. Musical Theater History Scotia Corley 6/17/16 Here is the history behind musical theater. The art of telling stories either through or with songs and music dates back far in time. We know that ancient Greeks included music and dance in their stages of comedy and tragedies as early as the 5th century B.C. We know that Aeschylus and Sophocles composed their own music during that time while Athenian playwrights may have interpolated existing songs. Roman actors attached metal chips called sabilla to their stage footwear; which became the first tap shoes. In the 12th and 13th centuries, during the Middle Age, there was also a tradition of religious dramas, such as The Play of Herod and The Play of Daniel. Sexism And The Star System In Architecture Analysis Sexism and the star system in architecture In her article, Denise Scott Brown brings to light her personal experience as being a female architect and the sexism that she had come across. Brown describes how sexism is not outright, as she states that many young female architects do not understand the need for the feminist movement as they had never experienced such sexism in school. Rather, sexism appeared through the words of architecture critics, in meetings, and architectural magazines. Despite her impactful personal statement in the frustrations she felt in a gender discriminated occupation, the article lacked context. Denise Scott Brown described her struggles with her lack of acknowledgement and the internal struggles she felt: her waning sense of self worth and displeasure from her growing hostile personality. Also, she was extremely thorough with her description of how architecture critics used the star system to attribute all collaborated ideas to a single entity. Yet, she does not really mention how sexism is a larger cultural issue, as she is too busy emphasizing the sexism she faced in the workforce.
