Costs and Direct Labor Cost
Midterm2Practice Key
1. The following data have been recorded for recently completed Job 501 on its job cost sheet. Direct
materials cost was $3,067. A total of 30 direct labor hours and 104 machine hours were worked on the
job. The direct labor wage rate is $12 per labor hour. The company applies manufacturing overhead on
the basis of machinehours. The predetermined overhead rate is $11 per machine hour. The total cost
for the job on its job cost sheet would be: A. $4,571 B. $3,757 C. $3,090 D. $3,427 Applied
manufacturing overhead = Predetermined overhead rate x Actual machine hours Applied

Analysis Of We Need To Talk About Kevin
I agree with this statement because subtle conflict creates rising tension which helps to create the
drama of a text. We Need to Talk about Kevin (2011), directed by Lynne Ramsay, is a film set in New
York from 1900 s 2001 about a woman, Eva Katchadourian, who encounters her past life elliptically
leading up to her sons massacre. Through the themes of guilt, motherhood and nature versus nurture,
we are able to truly experience the drama of the film through techniques such as cinematography,
colour palette and dialogue. The drama of We Need to Talk about Kevin is developed throughout the
film in many scenes that create rising tension leading up to the climactic point. In the scene where Eva
is in a prenatal class, a wide shot helps us to recognise that she is very melancholic and withdrawn
from the other pregnant women surrounding her. The close up shots of the surrounding women s
babies while Eva still has her shirt on is interpreted as Eva coming to terms with her loss of
independence and freedom. This scene creates an effect of misery and loathing through the lighting
technique. It is very dark and not very colourful or full of life like it should be. This scene was
explored by viewers to see that Eva was miserable without her independence ad that in fact she did not
want to become a mother. It also helps viewers to understand that motherhood isn t for everybody but
societal pressure makes women think that we have to have babies or we are not giving back to the

Social Structure Of The Pigs
Instinctual Behaviors Social structure For pigs the hierarchy is part of their social structure it s formed
at social maturity levels and is developed as fast as when they are a week old. Piglets form a teat and it
stays the same as long as they are still in the same group together. Usually the largest pig in the group
is the domain in the group. If pigs do not know each other they will fight until their remains one big
tough pig that bosses the others which is the dominate one in the pen.Reproduction pigs have a very
high reproductive cycle since they can produce more than two litters of piglets a year. Sows female
pigs have a heat cycle of twenty one days you can tell the sow is in heat when they stand still to
having pressure on their back and lower back without wanting to get away. That means she is ready
and accepts the boar male pig.It s important to know the signs of when the pigs are in the state of heat
and their behavior. It usually takes three to five minutes then separate the pigs and repeat in twelve to
twenty four hours.Mothering Sows behavior is crucial to the development of growth for the piglet.
Before she is ready to give birth hours before the sow nest builds with straw, grass, and other materials
in her environment. Nursing is frequent and is good for the growth of the piglets. The milk has an
impact on nursing behavior individual patterns are repeated with sows.Feeding You should feed them

Summary Of Paolo De Matteis sThe Adoration Of The Shepherds
Paolo de Matteis s esteemed work The Adoration of the Shepherds is a large painting, depicting a
classic Christian Nativity scene, that is displayed in the Dallas Museum of Art. In the piece, a dozen or
so individuals surround the newborn Christ and his parents, gazing at him in admiration and paying
him homage while animals look serenely on and angels assemble around the heads of the Holy
Family. The artist employs several classic artistic elements in his painting, such as line, light, color,
and shape, to draw the viewer s focus directly to his intended point of emphasis, the infant Jesus.
One of the most effective principles Paolo de Matteis uses in this painting is his use of lines and
invisible lines to direct the viewer s attention to the child in his mother s arms. The shepherds and
their animals, the Virgin Mary, and Saint Joseph are all instances of invisible lines in this painting, as
their outstretched hands and lines of vision are all pointing to the baby Jesus. For example, the three
women and the child kneeling to the bottom right side of the manger are all staring or pointing to the
upper left, toward Jesus. Moving to the upper right corner of the painting, the ox and the donkey are
directing their gaze to the bottom left, once again at Jesus. The two men to the right of the animals
also point in that direction. In the top and center, Mary and Joseph watch their child, creating yet
another invisible line pointing toward the point of emphasis, while the angels

Sundiata Historical Accuracy
The story of Sundiata, well reproduced by the Guinean historian Niane, relates how this king managed
to found the second famous Western African empire, the empire of Mali, in the thirteenth century. This
tale is still very popular in Mali and other surrounding areas, and is especially used as a way to
exacerbate the national pride and identity. The epic of Sundiata helps people to integrate themselves in
an historical ensemble and to get a hold on their history. Historical accuracy might seem necessary for
such a thing to happen. At least, that is what our Western standards would expect to find in an
historical written tale, as if every written historical text was accurate in the first place. This debate fits
within the whole discussion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a strong importance of castes, like griots, who are somewhat still the keeper of traditions and
history and who used to serve the rulers as reminders of the past to help them take decisions and
orators who relayed the words of the king to the rest of the population, but who are mostly today
musicians. The smith caste is also really important in the tale, there were the first to master the work
of iron. In modern Mali, they are less important, but some old families, like the Keitas, Sundiata s own
family, managed to remain prominent in politics. The actual president of Mali is, for instance, Ibrahim
Boubacar Keïta, comes from the same large Keita family, just like many former presidents. It is just a
further proof that family in the 13th century was just as important as it is today. Indeed, family still
determines one s social status, friendships, activities and to some extent, destiny and in the case of
Sundiata s tale, his destiny was clearly determined because of his father and mother s families. These
families, just like today, were mixed, since one man could have several wives in traditional beliefs and
according to Muslim laws. The gender roles were strict, women were supposed to raise children, cook,
manage the livestock, whereas men handled the structure of the house, relations with other families
and certain food (baobab leaves,

A Leader s Leader Of Pakistan
When we think of a leader, we think of someone who has power and someone who helps others
become better. Some of the most important leaders are a political leader who attempts to lead a
country into the right direction or attempts to improve the country. Most of these leaders, such as
presidents or prime ministers of a country, are males, but women sometimes enter office. One women
leader that became the prime minister of Pakistan helped the country improve tremendously. Benazir
Bhutto was this leader. She was the first female leader in the Muslim world. Following in her dad s
footsteps, Benazir Bhutto became the leader of the Pakistan People s Party and then the eleventh
prime minister of Pakistan. Benazir Bhutto had an influential life ... Show more content on

Her brother, Murtaza Bhutto was killed in a battle with police. After the death of Mohammad Zia,
Pakistan opened free elections; this led to the first female prime minister in the Muslim world, Benazir
Bhutto. Bhutto was elected into her first term in 1988. It was then ended in 1990 when she lost the
election but was then back in office from 1993 1996. As a women and the first women leader of
Pakistan, one of Benazir Bhutto s most important works was her work towards more women rights.
Women in Pakistan did not have much freedom, but Bhutto helped change this. When Benazir Bhutto
was elected into office, she brought women into the cabinet. She also created the Ministry of Women s
Development and other institutions to help women in family planning, counseling, and birth control.
The creation of the Women s Development Bank also helped the women of Pakistan. The Women s
Development Bank gave credit only to women. Along with helping women with aid, Bhutto raised the
ban on women not being able to participate in sporting events. She also had programs and studies
implemented into colleges. Along with helping women in Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto also helped the
poor and children. Bhutto began by helping give electricity to villages in Pakistan. At first, only 260
villages in Pakistan had electricity. This left 80,000 villages without electricity. With electricity, new
roads were built and more importantly,

Creating a Healthy City
Creating a Healthy City
Environmental health should be a great concern for each individual person as well as our nation and
the whole world. Environmental health addresses all the physical, chemical, and biological factors
affecting health and our environment.t which includes air, land and water. Environmental health
extents to the chemical we use such as BPA and the effects it can and may have on our children, fuel
in the economy and additional sources of fuel, building green, environmental disease and sources of
energy in which all of these items can have an effect on the environment and our health.

Introducing a clean environment healthy city would require information how important having a clean
city is important to the community.
A health city is about clean air, water, land and waste disposal for better living in the community.
Understanding the air we breathe is essential that s why green emission is established to reduce the
amount of carbon that is leaked in to the air which can cause breathing issuing. Having clean water
and plenty of water is a something our body cannot live without. Land is major because the quality of
land effects food and the types of food in which we can choose from and eat. Land is different from
place to place and each area yields certain kinds of food that is necessary for the nutrients we need.
When our air, water and land is destroyed where do we go and how do we survive.
Environmental Health should be a global concern because earth is our home. Some of the
environmental issues of global warming global dimming water pollution, air pollution; land pollution
and land degradation are affecting humanity throughout the entire world, these and other issues affects
every species on the planet earth. Its imperative that mankind listen to the cry of the environment and
begin to work together to save our planet. We can all play a part play by taking concern for endangers

I also enjoyed listening to this piece Fantasiestucke, Opus 88. This piece was played in Romanze and
duet, and was performed by the pianist Luiza Borac, violinist Vladimir Dyo, and cellist Yves
Dharamraj. After a deep sesearch about this piece I find out that the work was came at a happy time in
the composer s life: Schumann had married his beloved Clara Wieck in 1840 after her father had made
many attempts to thwart their matrimonial plans. The four pieces, or movements, comprising the trio
are Romanze, Humoreske, Duett, and Finale. During this program I feel that the Romanze opens in a
tentative, mysterious mood, but then turns warmly Romantic, the piano dominating throughout. The
Duett that follows, marked Slowly and with feeling, is for cello and violin, the piano providing a soft,
running accompaniment to their passionate singing. The Finale, designated in March tempo, exhibits a
heroic character at the outset, but turns lighter and more playful in succeeding variations. The main
theme returns and the subdued, lively ending are sheer magic in its feathery nonchalance, its graceful
instrumental exchanges,

Hip Hop, A Popular Genre Of Music
Hip Hop is a subcultural movement that formed in the early 1970s by African American, Caribbean
and Latino youths. It wasn t until the late 1980s that it became popular outside of the African
American community and by the 2000s it became the most popular genre of music. However, the
subculture has evolved through out the years and the comparison between then and now is growing
increasingly big. Hip Hop in the 80s consisted of music, dance, creativity and artistry. It also allowed
people an avenue to express themselves and deliver a sense of their surroundings and backgrounds
whether that was positive or negative. As well as this bringing communities together, it also drove
them apart as expressing yourself got competitive and with hip hop being a music form. People would
start to offend each other through lyrics, by pointing out disadvantages. This culture was now so
competitive that violence started to outbreak due to people taking it to serious and this brought so
much bad attention towards it, to be a rapper was basically classing yourself as a criminal.
Unfortunately, how most people remember hip hop may be distorted through the prevalence of
violence in the hip hop culture, whether heard in lyrics, seen from artists or in the media s
representation of artist beef. (Janeé, L. 2015) The fashion statement within this subculture was heavily
frowned upon due to its strong relation to gangs and how they dressed. It consisted of over sized

Essay On Stray Dogs In Bangkok
Topic: Stray Dogs in Bangkok s Temple
Abstract
Thai Buddhist temple is the most well known spot to surrender stray dogs, since they have a ton of
remains. If the temple dogs get along, then stray dog and stray. Other normal spots incorporate
disconnected streets or even outside somebody s fence.
This is the reason people can see stray dogs at most sanctuaries around Thailand. Since nobody really
care for these animals, some of them have skin infections that make them lose their skin and they
frequently notice awful. Sometimes Buddhist cloisters effectively debilitate individuals from dumping
their unwanted pets at temples, since it s a weight to the resident monk.

Siegfried Sassoon
Suicide in the trenches
Title and Author: Suicide in the Trenches is a poem written by Siegfried Sassoon. Sassoon wrote this
poem during his First World War military service and published in his 1918 collection: Counter Attack
and Other Poems
Form and style
This poem is a lyric which contains of three stanzas each containing four lines. This is written in
rhyming couplets, the style of the poem seems very simple and song like
War is destructive of youth and innocence. There is a change in mood where the first stanza talks
about the despair when he is in the trenches. In the third stanza we move to the poet s anger about the
way that people at home feel

* The last stanza from lines nine to twelve, is a satirical view of Sassoon s greatest criticism and
determination to revenge of those smug faced crowds , in verse 9, who cheer when soldiers march by ,
in verse 10. He hated those who considered to be making a profit out of the war and those who were
happy and proud their children going to serve their country: This creates a patriotic feeling.
Moods/ Feelings * Bitter * Conscious * Anger * Rage * Antagonism * Resentment * The dominant
mood of this poem is anger but there is also a feeling of sadness and sorrow about the young man s
death.
Personal Evaluation
In my opinion war is evil and this poem gives us a good view on the reality of war and its
consequences. This poem mainly criticises on the horrors of the war, the health conditions of the
soldiers, the loneliness they had to face, patriotism of soldiers and the lack of resources that soldiers
faced in the trenches. it made me think how inhumane the world that we are a part of is, that such
horrible and indecent acts could be committed by humans. Having a young boy take such drastic
measures is beyond my understanding for the time, the year which this poem was written but of course
it must be understood because this was caused by the horrors of

Lascaux Cave Painting
The famous shaft scene of Lascaux: a man with a bird head and a bison is the artwork that I chose for
my original art work analysis. The artwork belongs to the movement in the Paleolithic time period
created by an unknown cave artist during the prehistoric era. (Web)One of the most intriguing images
from the latter of these three periods is the so called Shaft Scene of Lascaux cave, dating from
approximately 17,300 years B.P., in the Dordogne region of France. This image of the famous Bird
Man figure, like most Palaeolithic art, defies unambiguous explanation and although symblolic
elements are clearly visible in the depiction, other more obscure elements do not permit us to offer a
simple interpretation of what we are seeing. (Web)The painting ... Show more content on

By comparing the two, clearly the shaft scene has is very simplistic and less detailed since it contains
far less characters and contour lines. Exploring the two cave s paintings gave me an in depth look at
how prehistoric artists in France masterfully employ unique art perspectives in their artistic endeavors.
Depictions of animals are common to both the Lascaux and Chauvet Cave drawings which imply a
grandiose appreciation for wildlife by both cultures. (Web) In addition, another similarity present in
both artworks is the abstract markings of figures and symbols indicative of both traditions of the
people in the Paleolithic time period. In the Chauvet painting, the contour lines are more refined and
detailed as opposed to the Lascaux paintings which are more simple and bold. Furthermore, the
Lascaux paintings implement a multitude of vibrant colors such as red, yellow, and orange while the
majority of the Chau vet paintings lacked this quality in retrospect. By carbon dating, the time of the
Chau vet painting is circa 27,000 years old while the Lascaux painting is circa 17,300 years old. I do
believe that the Chau vet paintings are older since the majority are black in color even though the
detail is extensive.

lifestyle, did I realize that being in a wheelchair is hard, and uncomftorable. As we approached the

Linear Function And Slope
Linear functions are represented in slope intercept form, y=mx+b and are plotted on a coordinate
plane as a straight line. m represents the slope, or the measure of the steepness, of a line; b represents
the y intercept, the place where the line crosses the y axis and the value of x equals 0. Slope is
calculated by dividing the change in y by the change in x between two points, or (y_2 y_1)/(x_2 x_1 ).
Slope is commonly referred to as the average rate of change or rise/run , the change in y values (rise)
over the change in x values (run). x values of the table move the point horizontally along the x axis; y
values of the table move the point vertically along the y axis. When points of a linear function are
displayed in a table, the top number of the slope is the average rate of change in ... Show more content

As the slope becomes greater, the line will have a greater steepness when graphed. Lower slopes result
in a line closer to being horizontal. Positive slopes display a line that increases its y values as x values
increase while negative slopes display a line that decreases its y values as x values increase. Linear
functions are used to display situations with a constant rate of change. This can include miles driven
per hour or the cost of a service for an amount of time. Quadratic functions are represented by the
equation f(x)=ax^2+bx+c and are graphed in a U shape known as a parabola. A quadratic is a function
in which x^2 is the greatest power. This curve occurs when two lines are multiplied together. If the
value of a is greater than 0, the parabola is positive and opens upwards. If a is less than 0, the graph is
negative and opens downward. In order to find the vertex, the maximum or minimum value of a
quadratic, begin by finding the x coordinate, the axis of symmetry, using variables from the given
equation in ( b)/2a. Insert the x value into the function and solve to find the y coordinate of the

Jane the Virgin and Kelly on The Office. Many people know her on screen but few know that in
addition to her acting she is also a scriptwriter. So, when Kaling was given the chance to pitch ideas
for the next Hollywood hit, she jumped at the opportunity. She went before a panel of executives to

female movie character, known as the Ethereal Weirdo. This is who Kaling describes as the Manic
Pixie Dream Girl. She uses description techniques to create the ideal version of a character that puts
an image in the mind of the reader. She wears gauzy blouses and braids. She likes to dance in the rain
and she weeps uncontrollably if she sees a sign for a missing dog or cat. She might spin a globe, place
her finger on a random spot, and decide to move there. Following this anecdote, she refocuses the
piece, stating that such an individual shows up often in movies but never in real life. Kaling also plays
to the common prejudice that females are meant to fit to male ideals. Roles like that of the Ethereal
Weirdo actually perpetuate sexism and degrade the role of women in acting. She conveys this point
through dry satirical elements, saying, She is essential to the male fantasy that even if a guy is boring

Bad Budget Cuts Essay
Bad Budget Cuts
The budget cuts being put into effect soon are all wrong. The government should not be putting the
cuts on the military the cuts should be on something else. The military needs that money for a number
of things. The government is coming up with the plan to cut the military s money, cut a large sum of
soldiers, make it to where the country will not be able to be protected, and puts thousands of soldiers
in trouble because of increases in healthcare and decreases in pay. A plan to cut the military budget has
been made and will most likely be put into effect soon. A debt in the United States has been increasing
for years so the government thinks the best way to get it to come down some is to make cuts and use

The military needs this money to maintain order, equipment, and keep soldiers in the fight. Soldiers
will be pulled out of the military because of this cut. They plan to shrink the military down to levels it
has not seen in seventy four years (Hicks 1). The soldiers being cut though are the active duty soldiers.
These are the people who are serving right now and they are being forced out of the military and all
they get is their last pay check and go back to civilian life. They plan to cut the army from 570,000
soldiers to 490,000 420,000 soldiers by 2019 (V, EnBrook, and Locker 1). This is not a suitable
amount of soldiers to protect the United States. There is a high chance of war because of what is
happening in Ukraine at the moment and the government is deciding to cut the military s budget.
Army leaders said the service could not adequately protect the country and fight abroad at the 420,000
soldier level (V, EnBrook, and Locker 1). The army can barely live with 450,000 soldiers, said Maren
Leed (V, EnBrook, and Locker 2). History has showed the United States has been in substantial
conflicts every twenty years (V, EnBrook, and Locker 2). Some soldiers have a hard enough time as it
is the pay checks for the military are not big unless you are in a Sargent position or in a general s
position. The soldiers being cut will have an even harder time with all the jobs being taken up.

Ethics Conference Reflection
Ethics Conference Reflection What? Every type of workplace has the potential for workplace violence
to take place. However, health care professionals have a much higher rate of experiencing workplace
violence than other professions. This is largely due to the type of patients that health care
professionals see. Patients that are more likely to become aggressive and violent are patients with a
mental illness, patients presenting to the emergency department, and other patients in acute care
settings. Patients are not the only people with the potential to become violent. Patient s families,

the Wall Street Crash of 1929 struck less than eight months after he took office, Hoover tried to fight
the ensuing Great Depression with moderate government public works projects such as the Hoover

the economy plummeted simultaneously and unemployment rates rose to afflict one in four American

Roosevelt, who promised a New Deal. After Roosevelt assumed the Presidency in 1933, Hoover
became a spokesman for opposition to the domestic and foreign policies of the New Deal. In 1947,
President Harry S. Truman appointed Hoover to head the Hoover Commission, intended to foster
greater efficiency throughout the federal bureaucracy. Most historians agree that Hoover s defeat in
the 1932 election was caused primarily by the downward economic spiral, although his strong support
for prohibition was also significant, but because of the Great Depression Hoover is ranked lower than

Lucy And The American Dream Analysis
A close study of the way Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid and the characters of Seven react to their
encounters with the new world. Both stories are new immigrant literature and they both bring the past
experiences or events to the present. In the book The American Dream by Jim Cullen he questions if
the past is essential to your future or does it matter at all. Lucy is a story that describes a girl s
experience in the new world, throughout the story she dealt with a great deal of controversy when
having to adjust to the new world. The objective of this part of the book is Lucy compares everything
to a troubling episode that happened back at her home. One of Lucy s first days in the new world she
was excited to see sun shining her immediate thought was warm temperature which coming from a
tropical zone she was used to the type of weather. A rude awakening appeared when she felt the cold
air but the sun was still shining, But I did not know that the sun could shine and the air remain cold;
no one had ever told me (Kincaid 5). Throughout the story Lucy is unsatisfied with just about every
encounter with the new world, the first quote shows how differently Lucy sees the world. Lucy is
brought to the United States to be a babysitter to the children of Lewis and Mariah and go to school at
night. The family of the house was nice to Lucy, and she is surprised by this treatment saying that I
should regard them as my family and make myself at home (Kincaid 7). Another person

The Complete Maus By Art Spiegelman
The Holocaust was a genocide led by Adolf Hitler in the 1930 s and 40 s that took the lives of between
six and eleven million people. The graphic novel, The Complete Maus, written by Art Spiegelman,
follows a father and son discussing and inscribing the story of the father s struggle through the
Holocaust. Vladek Spiegelman uses his skills and wit to avoid the same fate as roughly six million
other Jews. His son, Artie, is having his father recount his story so he can write it down and preserve it
as a piece of history. He uses the format of the graphic novel to provoke emotion and truly display
what life was like for Jews during this time. Spiegelman uses icons, bleeds, and elements of
scrapbooking throughout the text, seen in the men hanging imagery on page 85. These techniques, in
one moment of interdependence, signify events to come, the looming presence of the Nazis, and the
long struggle for Vladek ahead.
The men hanging for selling items on the black market is an important moment textually and visually
that signifies Vladek s realization that the Nazi s would not tolerate people disobeying their rules and
that there would be deadly consequences. The text in this scene describes that four men have been
taken for dealing without coupons and in the same frame Vladek s present time words say, I did much
business with Cohn! (Spiegelman 85). The middle panel, the visual representation of the four men
hanging bleeding into the page, creates a feeling for the reader that

According to Koprince Stanley can be described as hyper masculine, using aggressive behavior as
verification of manliness, believing in male superiority, seeing women as sexual objects to be
dominated and being extremely jealous and possessive (50). His aggressive demeanor is a way of
expressing his dominance over everyone in his life. He views his marriage as an ownership instead of
a partnership. His relationship with Stella is more for his pleasure then hers. With Blanche, he can see
right through her, and knows everything that she does is an act. He takes pleasure out of making her
life miserable and making her feel inferior. Unlike Blanche, Stanley is happy the way he is. He doesn t
understand how horrible he is but is happy with the way everything in life goes for him. Stanley s
violence is not only directed against women. In scene three, after he hits Stella, Stanley s friends try to
pull him away, and he being to fight them and nearly throw them off. This shows Stanley s
aggressiveness and violence is directed towards anyway that comes in his way. Although Stanley has a
strong personality, audiences identified with him the most because of his capability to abuse power

John Kerry s Contributions To The Arab-Israeli Conflict
John Kerry is the US Secretary of State under President Barack Obama. He has made many
contributions to the conflict in the middle east known as the Arab Israeli conflict. John Kerry supports
the Palestinian side of the conflict, but also supports a two state resolution that would allow both
groups to control pieces of land that they can each call official countries for their ethnic groups.
In July of 2014, Kerry released a draft of a cease fire that heavily favored Hamas. The ceasefire did
not call for Hamas to stop the firing of rockets into Israel. But on the other side of things, he called for
a two state solution in December of 2014, saying that it s the only path to peace for the simple reason
that there is no one state alternative .

Naturalism In Wharton s Ethan Frome
Naturalism began as a literary movement in the early 1890 s all throughout 1915. Naturalism is meant
to imply a philosophical position. For writers, characters can be studied through their relationships to
their surroundings. Naturalists believed that human beings are meant to be studied like they were just
products , that are to be studied impartially, without moralizing about their natures. Ethan Frome was
first published in 1911. At first, people were skeptical that Wharton could write realistically about
poor farmers, seeing as how she had been born with a silver spoon in her mouth. Ethan Frome takes

the sweetness of Mattie s avowal, the wild wonder of knowing at last that all that had happened to him
had happened to her too, made the other vision more abhorrent, the other life more intolerable to

Females Mental Rotation Study
Background
One theory developed by psychologists working within the biological approach is the idea that males
have better spatial ability than females. Spatial ability is the ability to mentally manipulate 2
dimensional and 3 dimensional figures. One way in which spatial ability can be operationalised is in
the form of mental rotation test. A mental rotation test requires participants to identify rotated versions
of a target stimulus. Mental rotation usually takes place in the right cerebral hemisphere, in the areas
where perception also occurs. Mental rotation can be separated into the following cognitive stages
(Johnson 1990): 1) Create a mental image of an object 2) Rotate the object mentally until a
comparison can be made 3) Make the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

participants took the test in the same school computer lab and at the same time of day (Between 1:00

Participants were seated a desk apart so they could not copy each others answers.
Design
As there are two groups of different participants, one male and one female, to compare times between
groups the research design is an independent groups each participants is only in one group (condition).
Procedure
A pilot study was conducted with 5 students not taking part in the study. This enabled the researchers
to check the timings involved in administering the mental rotation test and also to check that
everything ran smoothly. The study also enabled the researchers to perfect the wording of the
standardised instructions.
For the main study 10 male participants sat at separate desks in the computer room with the mental
rotation programme loaded. Participants read and signed a consent form. The experimenter then read
from a standardised set of instructions explaining the procedure and giving permission for participants
to begin the 10 mental rotation trails when they were ready. Sitting next to each participant was a

The Rapid Growth Of Population Essay
Introduction:
The reason I chose this topic is because in my country Ethiopia the rapid growth of population
alarmed me, just around the 1965 our population was very low however in the past few years it has
tripled form 20 million to over 100 million. This was when my interest in my countries population
developed. Population is one of the conversational topics when talking about a countries profile, in
view of the fact that it plays a huge role, in a countries work force, consumption and economy. I will
be collecting data and modelling them to predict the population for the next 5 to 10 years. I will also
be doing this for Kenya to see the relationship between the two countries to prove that this rapid
growth of population is happening not only in our country but in our neighboring countries too.
The data collected is imprecise because it is affected by many variables. The mortality rate of the
people in Ethiopia can affect my data highly. During this time Ethiopia had a high rate of migration,
this could also be included as one of the variables that have affected my data. I will be using this set of
data to draw a graph so that I can generate a model to represent this data so that I can use it to predict
the population after five years.

For leasing warehouses in the other five locations, including that in St. Louis, increasing the number
of the facilities but not the size would have higher responsiveness. More facilities close to the end user
can shorten the response time and the transportation cost can be lower. However, the facility cost will
increase by building more new warehouses. The inventory cost will increase too, since the
decentralized inventory will be greater than consolidate all the inventories in one big warehouse.
Therefore, leasing more facilities beside in St. Louis will be more responsive but less efficient for the
company.
Analysis
In the following part, the total cost will be calculated for Option 1: Leasing more warehouse space in
St. Louis itself and Option 2: Leasing warehouses all over the United States. The total cost for the next
three years of both options included the facility cost, inventory holding cost and the UPS charges. In
the calculation, we assumed that the inbound transportation costs of shipments from suppliers were

only. The transportation cost between warehouse to warehouse is not in the case.

Letter To Greg Gallegos
Your Honor,
I am writing this letter on behalf of a good friend Greg Gallegos. I met Greg through his son and my
close friend Damian Gallegos. Almost immediately after meeting Greg he accepted me as if I was

We Need to Talk about Kevin (2011), directed by Lynne Ramsay, is a film set in New York from 1900 s 2001 about a woman, Eva Katchadourian, who encounters her past life elliptically leading up to her sons massacre. Through the themes of guilt, motherhood and nature versus nurture, we are able to truly experience the drama of the film through techniques such as cinematography, colour palette and dialogue. The drama of We Need to Talk about Kevin is developed throughout the film in many scenes that create rising tension leading up to the climactic point. In the scene where Eva is in a prenatal class, a wide shot helps us to recognise that she is very melancholic and withdrawn from the other pregnant women surrounding her. The close up shots of the surrounding women s babies while Eva still has her shirt on is interpreted as Eva coming to terms with her loss of independence and freedom. This scene creates an effect of misery and loathing through the lighting technique. It is very dark and not very colourful or full of life like it should be. This scene was explored by viewers to see that Eva was miserable without her independence ad that in fact she did not want to become a mother. It also helps viewers to understand that motherhood isn t for everybody but societal pressure makes women think that we have to have babies or we are not giving back to the ... In the piece, a dozen or so individuals surround the newborn Christ and his parents, gazing at him in admiration and paying him homage while animals look serenely on and angels assemble around the heads of the Holy Family. The artist employs several classic artistic elements in his painting, such as line, light, color, and shape, to draw the viewer s focus directly to his intended point of emphasis, the infant Jesus. One of the most effective principles Paolo de Matteis uses in this painting is his use of lines and invisible lines to direct the viewer s attention to the child in his mother s arms. The shepherds and their animals, the Virgin Mary, and Saint Joseph are all instances of invisible lines in this painting, as their outstretched hands and lines of vision are all pointing to the baby Jesus. For example, the three women and the child kneeling to the bottom right side of the manger are all staring or pointing to the upper left, toward Jesus. Moving to the upper right corner of the painting, the ox and the donkey are directing their gaze to the bottom left, once again at Jesus. The two men to the right of the animals also point in that direction. In the top and center, Mary and Joseph watch their child, creating yet another invisible line pointing toward the point of emphasis, while the angels ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sundiata Historical Accuracy The story of Sundiata, well reproduced by the Guinean historian Niane, relates how this king managed to found the second famous Western African empire, the empire of Mali, in the thirteenth century. This tale is still very popular in Mali and other surrounding areas, and is especially used as a way to exacerbate the national pride and identity. The epic of Sundiata helps people to integrate themselves in an historical ensemble and to get a hold on their history. Historical accuracy might seem necessary for such a thing to happen. There is a strong importance of castes, like griots, who are somewhat still the keeper of traditions and history and who used to serve the rulers as reminders of the past to help them take decisions and orators who relayed the words of the king to the rest of the population, but who are mostly today musicians. The smith caste is also really important in the tale, there were the first to master the work of iron. In modern Mali, they are less important, but some old families, like the Keitas, Sundiata s own family, managed to remain prominent in politics. The actual president of Mali is, for instance, Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, comes from the same large Keita family, just like many former presidents. It is just a further proof that family in the 13th century was just as important as it is today. Indeed, family still determines one s social status, friendships, activities and to some extent, destiny and in the case of Sundiata s tale, his destiny was clearly determined because of his father and mother s families. These families, just like today, were mixed, since one man could have several wives in traditional beliefs and according to Muslim laws. The gender roles were strict, women were supposed to raise children, cook, manage the livestock, whereas men handled the structure of the house, relations with other families and certain food (baobab leaves, ... Linear Function And Slope Linear functions are represented in slope intercept form, y=mx+b and are plotted on a coordinate plane as a straight line. m represents the slope, or the measure of the steepness, of a line; b represents the y intercept, the place where the line crosses the y axis and the value of x equals 0. Slope is calculated by dividing the change in y by the change in x between two points, or (y_2 y_1)/(x_2 x_1 ). Slope is commonly referred to as the average rate of change or rise/run , the change in y values (rise) over the change in x values (run). x values of the table move the point horizontally along the x axis; y values of the table move the point vertically along the y axis. • 29. The Complete Maus By Art Spiegelman The Holocaust was a genocide led by Adolf Hitler in the 1930 s and 40 s that took the lives of between six and eleven million people. The graphic novel, The Complete Maus, written by Art Spiegelman, follows a father and son discussing and inscribing the story of the father s struggle through the Holocaust. Vladek Spiegelman uses his skills and wit to avoid the same fate as roughly six million other Jews. His son, Artie, is having his father recount his story so he can write it down and preserve it as a piece of history. He uses the format of the graphic novel to provoke emotion and truly display what life was like for Jews during this time. Spiegelman uses icons, bleeds, and elements of scrapbooking throughout the text, seen in the men hanging imagery on page 85. These techniques, in one moment of interdependence, signify events to come, the looming presence of the Nazis, and the long struggle for Vladek ahead. The men hanging for selling items on the black market is an important moment textually and visually that signifies Vladek s realization that the Nazi s would not tolerate people disobeying their rules and that there would be deadly consequences. The text in this scene describes that four men have been taken for dealing without coupons and in the same frame Vladek s present time words say, I did much business with Cohn! (Spiegelman 85). The middle panel, the visual representation of the four men hanging bleeding into the page, creates a feeling for the reader that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For writers, characters can be studied through their relationships to their surroundings. Naturalists believed that human beings are meant to be studied like they were just products , that are to be studied impartially, without moralizing about their natures. Ethan Frome was first published in 1911. At first, people were skeptical that Wharton could write realistically about poor farmers, seeing as how she had been born with a silver spoon in her mouth. And the sweetness of Mattie s avowal, the wild wonder of knowing at last that all that had happened to him had happened to her too, made the other vision more abhorrent, the other life more intolerable to return to . . . • 35. Females Mental Rotation Study Background One theory developed by psychologists working within the biological approach is the idea that males have better spatial ability than females. Spatial ability is the ability to mentally manipulate 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional figures. One way in which spatial ability can be operationalised is in the form of mental rotation test. A mental rotation test requires participants to identify rotated versions of a target stimulus. Mental rotation usually takes place in the right cerebral hemisphere, in the areas where perception also occurs. Mental rotation can be separated into the following cognitive stages (Johnson 1990): 1) Create a mental image of an object 2) Rotate the object mentally until a comparison can be made 3) Make the ... • 37. The Rapid Growth Of Population Essay Introduction: The reason I chose this topic is because in my country Ethiopia the rapid growth of population alarmed me, just around the 1965 our population was very low however in the past few years it has tripled form 20 million to over 100 million. This was when my interest in my countries population developed. Population is one of the conversational topics when talking about a countries profile, in view of the fact that it plays a huge role, in a countries work force, consumption and economy. I will be collecting data and modelling them to predict the population for the next 5 to 10 years. I will also be doing this for Kenya to see the relationship between the two countries to prove that this rapid growth of population is happening not only in our country but in our neighboring countries too. The data collected is imprecise because it is affected by many variables. The mortality rate of the people in Ethiopia can affect my data highly. During this time Ethiopia had a high rate of migration, this could also be included as one of the variables that have affected my data. I will be using this set of data to draw a graph so that I can generate a model to represent this data so that I can use it to predict the population after five years. Year Population (in millions) 1 2015 99.3 2 2010 87.5 3 2005 76.6 4 2000 66.4 5 1995 57.2 6 1990 48.0 7 1985
