Playtime by Jacques Tati Shot Analysis
PLAYTIME by Jacques Tati Shot from 03:12 04:48 / Airport waiting room
__________________________________________________________________________ Jacques
Tati s 1967 film, Playtime, captures a cascading series of events through the sterile architecture of
Paris, in which few familiar characters inhabit. Tati s infamous alter ego, Monsieur Hulot, haphazardly
occupies many scenes as he stumbles through Paris after trying to contact an American official. The
film is confined to no genre, nor does it necessarily form a new one it simply exists in its own right as
an exploration of societal function. Originally shot on 70mm, the film carries ... Show more content on

The off centre position of the camera in relation to the furniture also allow for the chairs to act as
depth cues and show the enormous length of the room. Everything in the frame is in focus, which in a
cinema viewing is a lot to take in, especially considering the films aspect ratio of 1.85:1. However, the
audiences eyes are cleverly guided around the frame by almost unnaturally loud sounds, some of
which are accentuated in post production by Tati. The sounds against the floors create a reverbing
echo, highlighting the absurd impracticality of the building. A man and a woman sit in the bottom left
hand corner of the frame in what appears to be a waiting area. They are dressed identically in their
monotonous grey colours, as if they are enslaved to the colours surrounding them. During the shot s
beginning, the audience is drawn to the nuns and their rhythmic footsteps as they enter the frame.
Then, through a combination of actor gestures and dialogue, this gaze shifts to the two characters
anchored in the foreground of the image. The rattling of a table being wheeled out by a man in white
into the frame moves our eyes, as well as the couples own attention, to

Top Glove will be embarking on a 3 year rapid expansion in production lines by adding another 55
lines in FY8/05, 66 lines in FY8/06 and 56 lines in FY8/07, in its Phuket, Hatyai, Shanghai and Klang
factories. This would require a capex of about RM60m and RM66m in FY8/05 and FY/06
respectively.
II. Penetration into new markets. Top Glove targets to have a customer base of 600 by December 2005
from 500 at present by increasing its export destinations to 160 from 145 currently. Countries
providing further potential include Russia, Brazil, Portugal, Middle East and the US.
III. Shifting towards more value added products. In line with the industry s trend of favouring powder
free gloves, Top Glove is increasing its powder free lines resulting in a product mix of 30% by the
year 2006 from the current 17%. Apart from that, Top Glove will be producing more higher margin
products such as nitrile and surgical gloves when its future capacity is in place.
IV. One Stop Glove Sourcing Centre . Top Glove would still maintain its role as a One Stop Glove
Sourcing Centre which has altogether a mix of 12 product range although it will be emphasizing on
the more value added range. Compared to other glove manufacturers, Top Glove is the only company
in Malaysia that is able to manufacture all the varieties of gloves for healthcare, dental, food
packaging, household, industrial, cleanroom as well as operation room. The broad choices has also

The Black Language, Then Tell Me, By James Baldwin
With a background affected tremendously by the dark history of African Americans, language has
become a significant problem to what the term Black English really means to different people. In If
Black Language Isn t a Language, Then Tell Me, What Is, James Baldwin attempts to analyze what a
language really means and how Black English evolved to fulfill an important role for Americans.
Black English sounds proper to blacks, but to whites it may not be a proper use of language.
Throughout this essay, Baldwin uses a specific tone and relates to his audience by opening his mind to
both emotion and logic while still upholding his credibility. Baldwin tries to persuade the audience to
respect the language of Black English using his personal experience. The history of different
languages mentioned in the essay is used to help convince the audience of thinking about the term
language from a new perspective. Whites and Blacks both may speak the same language, but that does
not mean that they understand each other because the language can be spoken in different matters. As
Baldwin states, The white man could not possibly understand, and that, indeed, he cannot understand,
until today . A white man or black man had to be careful about the words they used in front of each
other because some words would be considered offensive for one another. Baldwin uses African
American language and culture to reveal the impact that the English language Americans use has
created. Throughout the

Examples Of Bravery In The Odyssey
Homer s The Odyssey, translated by Robert Fitzgerald, is a classic literature piece written originally in
ancient Greece. The book is an epic poem about the hero Odysseus perils and his journey back home
after being held away for twenty years. While this is taking place, his son, Telamakhos tries to find his
father and gain his place in adulthood. To fully find self respect, Telamakhos must overcome the
suitors that have taken over his father s house. Both men commit acts of heroism and bravery
throughout the poem. Many characters throughout the story show bravery in our modern way, but
Odysseus is the hero of this old story. So these examples of bravery in the Odyssey come from him.
Odysseus shows his bravery in a flashback to the time he was on his way home from the ten year war
in Troy. In book X, lines 299 301, he tells one of his men Euralokhos: ...rest here then; take food and
wine; stay in the black hull s shelter. Let me go, as I see nothing for it but to go. (Homer 273)
Euralokhos has just told him that a group of his men have been turned to swine by the powerful
goddess, Kirki. Odysseus goes into her home to get his men back even though he, too, could be turned
into a swine as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He and his men had just sailed past the sirens. They were terrified to go between Skylla, a sea monster
with six heads, and Kyribdis, a giant whirlpool. He consoles his men in book XII, lines 269 273.
Friends, have we never been in danger before this? More fearsome, is it now, than when the kyklops
penned us in his cave? What power we had! (Homer 216) Odysseus faces the danger head on without
showing the fear of his men. They re heading for the most dangerous place they feel they ve been and

Education Training
Education, in its broadest sense, refers to the ways in which people learn skills and gain knowledge
and understanding about the world, and about themselves. One useful scheme for discussing education
is to divide these ways of learning into three types formal, informal and nonformal.
Formal education is instruction given in school. It is often called schooling. In most countries, people
enter a system of formal education during their early childhood. In this type of education, the people
in charge of a school decide what to teach, and learners then study those things under the direction of
teachers. Learners are expected to come to school regularly and on time., to work at about the same
speed as their classmates, and to pass tests ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
it teaches a student to investigate all sides of a question and all possible solutions to a problem before
reaching a conclusion or planning a course of action. The branches of learning that aid in this
development are called the liberal arts. These branches include the humanities, mathematics, and the
biological, physical, and social sciences.
Vocational education aim primary at preparing individuals for a job. Some secondary school specialize
in vocational programmes. Technical schools are vocational secondary schools that are specially
equipped to teach more technical subjects, such as carpentry, metalwork, and electronics. Technical
school students are also required to take some general education sourses. Technical colleges and
specialized schools offer advanced vocational and technical training. Universities and separate
professional schools prepare students for careers in such fields as agriculture, architecture, business,
engineering, law, medicine, music, nursing, pharmacy, teaching and theology. Many businesses and
industries offer formal vocational training for their employees.
Special education provides educational opportunities for handicapped or gifted people. Most countries
support special education programmes for people who are blind, deaf, emotionally disturbed,
physically handicapped, or mentally handicapped. Some local school systems also aid gifted students.
Adult education . Most countries support general and vocational

Baking Soda Lab Report
Introduction
Baking soda is a common household item. It is used for a variety of things from cooking to cleaning.
Baking soda is synthesised on an industrial scale using the Solvay process. The Solvay process consist
of using limestone and extreme heat in order to break down the limestone into carbon dioxide and
calcium oxide.1
CaCO3(s)→ CO2(g) + CaO(s) The carbon dioxide is then combined with a concentrated solution of
water, sodium chloride, and ammonium. The ammonia and water react to make ammonium hydroxide
that reacts with sodium and carbon dioxide to form sodium bicarbonate.
CO2(g) +NH3(aq)+NaCl(aq)+H2O(l)→NaHCO3(s)+NH4Cl(g)2
The Solvay process then recycles the ammonia by performing an acid base reaction. The calcium
oxide is combined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Results and Discussions After filtration, 5.256 g of sodium bicarbonate was obtained. An experimental
error in this experiment was that 100 percent of the carbon dioxide did not go through the nalgene
tube because some went up the thistle tube. Another source of experimental error was that not all of
the sodium bicarbonate could be rinsed off of the glassware and not all of it was filtered. Both sources
of experimental error led to a lower yield. Precipitation reactions could have been done to confirm the
presence of carbonate ions in the product. Either calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, or silver could
have been added to the product and carbonate would have precipitated out. Using stoichiometry and
the mole to mole ratio from the 2nd formula listed above, it was found that 3x108 Kg of carbon
dioxide is needed to produce the 700,000 tons of Arm and Hammer baking soda. In order to obtain the
5.256 g of product, 2.753 g of carbon dioxide was converted into sodium

Research Paper On Pericardiitis
Two cardiovascular conditions that are rare is Pericarditis and acute/ subacute bacterial endocarditis.
Pericarditis is the inflammation of the pericardium (two thin layers of the sac like that encloses the
heart or the myocardium). Within this sac, there is small amount of fluid, that keeps the layers apart,
therefore no friction occurs between them, as the heart pumps blood to body. This condition can occur
secondary to a heart attack (MI), a condition name Dressler s syndrome, or following a coronary
artery surgery. Furthermore, it is also commonly seen in patients with connective tissue disorders such
as Rheumatoid arthritis(RA), Systemic Lupus Erythematosus(SLE), scleroderma, and sarcoidosis.

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Bitmap Vs....
In the presently highly digital world we live in, there are essentially two types of graphic files used,
the bitmap and the vector graphics. Both have an overall similar principal but differ in various sub
arrays, which bring along each of their own advantages and disadvantages. To begin with, the word
bitmap originated in the year 1973, and came to be by adding the words bit + map which literally
means a map of bits, which perfectly describes the nature of a bitmap graphic. A bitmap is composed
of thousands of pixels, each of which has it s own fixed position and can be individually edited, which
forms an overall bitmap graphic/image. Bitmaps are largely the standard for Internet graphics but
however contain disadvantages. Bitmaps are largely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When written, the width measurement is always written first. Aspect ratios all have to deal with the
amount of empty space you are willing to have surrounding the main subject . Awareness of the
different aspect ratios provided by the device in hand may lead to better compositions in the image.
The difficulties with aspect ratio are that when there is an inconsistency, one must either crop the
image or compromise the size of the image. Furthermore, when the aspect ratio of a particular image
is not compatible with the screen, upon which it s displayed, black stripes are used to adjust the
difference without compromising the

A hazard is a situation that poses a level of threat to life, health, property, or environment. There is a
very big difference that helps prepare for a volcanic hazard and that is whether you are in a MEDC or
a LEDC. In a MEDC monitoring volcanic zones and potential hazards is an option many LEDC s don
t have. In Italy at Mt Etna they have Geochemical monitoring programs currently run by INGV which
focus on the analysis of temporal changes, chemical changes and seismic activity.
This option open to the Italians is not an option for LEDC who don t have the wealth or public
education to set up these stations. In Montserrat their where no levels of monitoring at all due to

There are other factors predicting and preparing wont help for. One is the type of volcanic hazard such
as a sudden pyroclastic flow is much more violent then a slow lava flow. With pyroclastics you can
only reduce the hazard by vacation but lava flows can be diverted and slowed down with dam wall
trenches and spraying water As they did in ice land on the 1973 Heimaey eruption which started on 23
January.
Some times warning isn t enough because of peoples different circumstances and beliefs they might
not leave. One example is in Columbia in 1985 where they where warned but didn t listen as they didn
t think they would be affected and didn t trust the people telling them. About 20,000 people are feared
dead after a volcanic eruption in northern Colombia. Four towns in the Andes region are reported to
have been buried when ash spewed out of the volcano, Nevado del Ruiz, causing a mudslide. These
people weren t told to evacuate until 2 hours before the major eruption casing massive loss of life. The
reason for this late call was because the country didn t trust the people observing the volcano this
meant the potential hazard was far greater then it should have been ad the results where horrific. This
is one example of how poor education and different situation can greatly increase the hazard.
The Nevado del Ruiz Volcano eruption is also a great example of how the physical environment
affects the hazard. In Armero two

Total Domination Hannah Arendt Summary
Hannah Arendt, the author of The Origins of Totalitarianism, talks about totalitarianism and what it
looked like. She describes how the Nazi s ran their government by dehumanizing an individual, group
and how they took control over the masses in Germany. In this piece of work, the final chapter Total
Domination , also contributes to what it means to be under the rule of a totalitarian government. She
goes on about how total domination can be achieved if every person can be reduced to a never
changing identity of reactions (Hannah Arendt s Total Domination ). Recently, eastern countries have
had revolutions because of totalitarian style governments doing whatever they please. Two recent
revolutions from Syria and Libya have shown that these types of governments will not be tolerated.
Even Egypt has had its fair share of trouble as well. Hannah Arendt would have applauded the recent
revolutions in Syria and Libya because in Libya it began when a human rights lawyer was arrested,
both were done to fight for political change, and in Syria it was also done for a better economy. Arendt
s idea of total domination cannot be seen in Hosni Mubarak s rule over Egypt.
The human rights lawyer Fethi Tarbel, was arrested and sparked the uproar that caused the call of
removal for Muammar Gaddafi. In Libya, the government had taken political prisoners and people
were especially unhappy about this one. Fethi Tarbel was the coordinator of one of the few
independent organizations in Libya a group of families of victims of the Abu Salim prison massacre,
where more than 1,200 political prisoners were killed by security forces in 1996 (thenational.ae). This
set people off because Mr. Senussi tried to persuade Mr. Tarbel to give up the cause of the Abu Salim
victim s families (thenational.ae). People were not happy because they had suffered a tragedy like that
and were receiving help, but then the government comes and wanted to shut it down. The families
then gathered outside to protest the injustice that happened to Mr. Tarbel. The actions the people took
would have made Arendt proud because they were justified and meant to make change happen. With
this, people saw this as an opportunity and said, Benghazi wake up, this

Cold War:
Dr. Strangelove states quite boldly that man is not able to control the nuclear bomb (page 442
paragraph 11). It is a dismal, depressing, sick picture of the state of man and of government that this
film gives, and it it not very much alleviated by the fact that it is presented as a howling joke (page
442 paragraph 13).
Cinema Vol 2:
Kubrick s work reveals deeper evidence of the personal involvement which distinguishes the true
auteur. His develpment has been remarkably consistent through an apparently heterogeneous range of
projects, and each film s meaning becomes more confidently definable when one places it in relation
to its fellows (page 561 paragraph 2). A number of Kubrick s movies before Strangelove are explicitly
humanitarian , consciously dedicated to protest against inhumanity, and Strangelove itself has been
read similarly (page 561 paragraph 3). The much more polished work of Dr. Strangelove which
follows a strict scheme in which real time and cinematic time coincide, analysing an intricate network
of interconnecting operations without recourse to doubling back perhaps indicates Kubrick s own
retrospective dissatisfaction with the time scheme of The Killing

Investigation Of Police District 11
On Thursday, March 31, 2016, at approximately 12:35 p.m., I, Trooper Bradley Brachear, received a

NARRATIVE
During the collision, a gold 2000 Saturn LS1, driven by Cheri E. Post, was reportedly being pursued
by a black 2014 Ford Mustang GT, driven by Jordan M. Kinne, after a drug deal gone bad. The Saturn
and Ford entered the ramp from Interstate 55 southbound to Tudor Avenue traveling the wrong way.
While traveling from Tudor Avenue to Interstate 55, the Saturn and Ford entered the path of a silver
2005 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Pierre D. Manley. Once in the path of the Chevrolet, the front
passenger side of the Saturn struck the front passenger side of the Chevrolet.
After striking the Chevrolet, the Saturn was redirected to its left (south), where it struck the concrete
wall of the ramp. The Saturn deflected off the wall, and traveled back across the roadway to the right
(north), before coming to rest against the concrete wall bordering the north side of the roadway. In its
final resting position, the Saturn was facing northeast. After being struck by the Saturn, the Chevrolet
spun clockwise, where it was then struck on the front driver side by the front driver side of the Ford.
After being struck by the Ford, the Chevrolet was redirected back, where it came to final rest with its
back end near the concrete wall on the north side of the ramp. In its final resting position the

The Idea Of The Indian Removal Act Of 1830
Indian Removal Many people today would question whether the Indian Removal Act of 1830 was
constitutional or not. While the idea took many years to develop, it was in fact, a traumatic experience.
When prompted to do so, the Indians of their own land were forced to leave everything they had ever
known and walk along what is known as the trail of tears . This was a one thousand mile trek that took
about two months to complete. According to Steven Mintz chapter titled, Indian Removal thousands
of Natives were lost along the long, treacherous walk. Those who refused to walk were eventually
forced to, by being bound together and marched in a double file line down the Trail of Tears. Whether
or not it was safer for the Indians to leave their home, it was torture. They were forced to endure
things that no human should ever have to go through. Were the Indians forced to leave, because the
Americans were too concerned with their own being? Many people today question this, as it has
happened many different times in history with many different minorities and groups of people. What
makes Americans so much better than anyone else? The first person to raise the idea of the Indian
Removal was Thomas Jefferson. In Peter Onuf s book, The Mind of Thomas Jefferson , he notes that
Jefferson initiated the idea of the removing process westward. (106). However it was not until Andrew
Jackson became president that this process took effect. In the beginning, the idea of removing the

We can fill up the unemployment lines, enter the military, work in the tourist industry, or leave Hawai
i (Trask 145). This helps to further illustrate that even if they manage to find work, their best chance of
actually making a profit is through the prostitution of their culture.
However, even if Hawaiians manage to obtain full time jobs, the majority of the time it is not nearly
enough. Most families typically spend nearly 52 percent of their gross income for housing costs (Trask
139). It is because of this that many cannot afford to finance schooling, food, housing, and personal
belongings even with full time jobs. Powerless, Hawaiians cannot compete with the standard cost of
living on the islands, and are forced to retreat to the streets.
Among the list of facts that Trask portrays in her book, she states that Nearly one fifth of Hawai i s
resident population is classified as near homeless, that is, those for whom any mishap results in
immediate on the street homelessness. (Trask 139). This means that approximately 32% of the people
that make up the homeless population are actually

Failure Philosophy
Let your failure be your motivation to success. Winona Bhushan. Why is failure the key to everything?
When climbing a tree, you are bound to fall until you learn from your mistakes. Anything below a
hundred percent grade on any given task is failure. These are just two of infinite possibilities of
failing. Failure is the result of an action to put it bluntly. There are three poems to help understand this
philosophy even further. These include the poem Caged Bird written by the poet, Maya Angelou,
Mother To Son, written by the poet, Langston Hughes, and last but certainly not least, The Road Not
Taken, written by Robert Frost. The works of literature listed above all revolve around each other in a
special way. In each scenario, one reflects on their past in an indirect way of speaking about their
decisions or actions. Though, the real question is, how does failure affect these three individuals, and
how they did they move past it, or through it? When one feels caged, they are feeling as though they
are trapped in their own negative feelings, telling themselves that because of their past failures, they
can only talk about how they can t accomplish anything. This is the case in the poem, Caged Bird, by
Maya Angelou, in which it states, The free bird thinks of another breeze / and the trade winds soft
through the sighing trees / and the fat worms waiting on a dawn bright lawn / and he names the sky his
own(Angelou) This means that the free bird, who may be described as someone who has it all, or has
had little to no experience with devastating failure. On the other hand, the poem states, But a bird that
stalks / down his narrow cage / can seldom see through his bars of rage / his wings are clipped / and
his feet are tied / so he opens his throat to sing. (Angelou) This differentiates from the free bird,
because the caged bird is described as one who is being restricted into his own limits, basically. One
of the things holding him back is his own experiences, while the free bird wonders what is on the
other end of the spectrum, as he is handed fat worms and is greeted by soft winds. The poem written
by Maya Angelou is supposed to show perspective, on one end the bird is thought of as free, with no

How Did The Persian Empire Grow Throughout The Achaemenid...
In order for something to grow, it needs roots. The roots will soon develop and continue to grow. In
relation to this statement, the Achaemenid Empire, in which lasted from 550 330 BC, began as Cyrus
II, otherwise known as Cyrus the Great, had continued to conquer lands and grow his empire. By
doing so, Cyrus II created the most extensive empire that has been dated throughout history. However,
in order for the empire to last, it needed to continue to develop in ways that would benefit the
livelihoods of the people. Based on this, the Achaemenid Empire prospered because the Persians had
created a stable government, in which organized the empire, contributing to the success of the empire.
Likewise, the Achaemenid Empire flourished due to its social class system, which maintained order
throughout the empire, along with the completion of tasks that needed to be fulfilled in the empire.
Furthermore, the Achaemenid Empire continued to thrive and prosper, due to the myriad amounts of
infrastructure that the Persians were able to create and utilize. The Persian government needed to
continually maintain stability throughout the empire, as the empire steadily grew in populations and
territory. This conveys how the Persian Empire grew in diversity. In order to do so, Persian authority
both created an official language and culture, and divided the Empire into provinces, otherwise known
as satrapies. The use of satrapies began during the rule of Darius I, who established 20

on society. Many feared that the government would not effectively mitigate the effects of factions.
Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and other Federalists argued in support of a confederate republic
because direct democracies would not be able to protect society from factions. Madison states, in the
extent and proper structure of the Union, therefore, we behold a Republican remedy for the diseases
most incident to Republican Government (173 174). Their argument is void in that their definition of a
faction is one sided and the examples they use to support their argument on factions are superficial.
However, the Federalists effectively communicate that confederate republics mitigate the harmful
effects of factions better than pure democracies. II. What is a Faction? In Federalist 10, Madison
defines a faction as a number of citizens...who are united and actuated by some common impulse of
passion, or of interest, adverse to the rights of other citizens, or to the permanent and aggregate
interests of the community (168). Essentially, Madison believes that factions are groups of people that
contribute to the detriment of the common good. Madison believed in the notion of public interest, or
of the idea that the government should act in ways that benefit the general population. Madison argues
that factions never contribute in favor of public interest because they are

Band Session At The Baked Potato
This concert report will go into great detail regarding the performance that I witnessed, as well as the
genre of Jazz that was played, the artist, and the techniques that were used. I will start with my
personal experience of the concert that I attended. This will focus on the details of the performance, as
well as my mindset before and after the show. Next, this paper will research the origins of the genre of
Jazz that was played, which is Funk and has been supported by several scholarly sources. Then I will
look at the origin of the Jam Session. Finally I will then end with information regarding the
performers themselves as well as the history of the venue.
For my concert report I went with the members of my group presentation to the weekly jam session at
The Baked Potato, located in studio city. We just got done with a long night of studying, it was late, a
Monday, and I was tired. This was the first Jazz show that I have ever been to and I didn t know what
to expect. I had zero expectations going into this and in the end I m glad I didn t. When we arrived I
was immediately surprised at how small the venue was. There was maybe a little more than thirty
people in totally and it was a packed house. We took our seats right next to the stage, sitting directly in
front of the bassist and lead guitar player. As we ordered our two drink minimum and a couple of
baked potatoes to share, I watched as the rest of the band started to step on stage. Some seemed to

Martin Luther King Jr Essay
Why was Martin Luther King Jr. such an inspiration to African Americans in America? Martin Luther
King Jr. was an American minister, Civil Rights leader, and activist who had a strong belief in
nonviolent protests (history.com; Martin Luther King Jr.). He was the leader behind the Montgomery
Bus Boycott and the March on Washington which were eventually effective and a law was passed to
end racial discrimination (history.com; Martin Luther King Jr.). On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks
was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger on the bus. This caused activists to
organize a bus boycott that would last 381 days, and they chose Martin Luther King to be their leader.
By November of 1956, the supreme court passed a law ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On August of 1968, the voting rights act was passed by congress, which allowed all African
Americans the right to vote as stated on the 15th amendment. On april 4 1968, Martin Luther King Jr.
was assassinated but is still remembered and honored for all his achievements during the civil rights
movement. The assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. was an act done by the face of racism and
hate. In the spring of 1968, Martin luther King Jr. along with other SCLC members were called to
Memphis, Tennessee to support a sanitation workers strike. They were going to protest unfair wages
and unsafe working conditions. On April 3, King gave his last speech at the Mason Temple Church in
Memphis (history.com; Martin Luther King Jr. Assassination). I ve seen the promised land. I may not
get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land.
And I m happy tonight. I m not worried about anything. I m not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen
the glory of the coming of the Lord. were some of the words stated by Martin Luther King Jr. during
his last speech (history.com; Martin Luther King Jr. Assassination). The following day Martin Luther
King was standing on the second floor balcony of the Lorraine Motel when a bullet shot him in the
neck around 6 p.m. He was rushed to the hospital where he died an hour later at the age of 39 on April
4, 1968 (history.com; Martin Luther King Jr. Assassination).

If Beale Street Could Talk Analysis
Throughout If Beale Street Could Talk by James Baldwin the main characters have to overcome the
challenges of racism, and the traits that go hand and hand with it, justice and prejudice, to realize what
they actually needed was the family love they already had. Even though there are many romantic and
even some graphic passages in the book, Baldwin mainly focuses on how they had to come together as
a family when Alonzo (Fonny) was in jail and awaiting trial. If Beale Street Could Talk is essentially a
story about the human capacity to love.
After Clementine s (Tish s) meeting with her immediate family, they call over Fonny s family to share
in the news that Tish is pregnant. During a normal situation this would be a happy occasion and the
couple would tell both families at once, together. However Fonny has been in jail for roughly three
months at this point, and Fonny s family, except for his dad Frank, are not excited about Tish being
pregnant. The Holy Ghost will cause that child to shrivel in your womb. But ... Show more content on

Copper, Cu
Copper, Cu, is the 29th element in the periodic table and has 29 protons. Its mass number is 63.55. It
is a transition metal in the middle of the periodic table. The symbol for copper is Cu , which comes
from the Latin word cuprum, which came from the Latin word for the island of Cyprus, where copper
was found. Copper can be found as a metal in the ground. It is found in small amounts in living things.
Some mollusks and arthropods have blue blood because they have copper in their blood. Copper may
be the oldest metal in use, as ancient copper tools have been found. Copper is used in electrical wiring,
it s also what the Statue of Liberty is made of. Copper does not corrode and is not as toxic as a metal.

Slavery in Brazil
Edmund Burke, the acclaimed author and philosopher once said, Slavery is a weed that grows on
every soil. Between the 16th and 19th century in the Americas, millions on millions of slaves were
brought to the New World. There purpose was to work. The economy of most European colonies in
America was dependent on slaves. The land that was discovered in Americas was useless with out
sufficient slave labor to exploit it. In this essay, I will focus on two nations where slavery played an
enormous role in the development of that country. First, The United States, where in 1860 in South
Carolina over 50 percent of the population were slaves. Next, Brazil, the nation where about one third
of all salves from Africa were brought. In this essay I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another popular triangular route taken was ships from the U.S colonies would take rum and other
products to Africa in exchange for Slaves. From there, the slaves were taken to Brazil and the
Caribbean and sold for profit or sold for sugar and molasses to take back to the U.S where then the
sugar and molasses was sold to rum makers. In general, the slave trade was horrific and inhumane,
however, it is the reason that the U.S and Brazil were able to maintain a steady economy. Although
there were many similarities between the Brazilian slaves and the U.S slaves, there were quite a few
specific differences as well. One of the largest differences in slavery between Brazil and the U.S was
demographic. Generally speaking, the Brazilian slaves were usually decreasing while the U.S slaves
were usually increasing. This is due to several reasons. First, the Brazilians had a much lower
proportion of female slaves compared to the U.S who had an equal sex ratio. In Brazil, due to the lack
of female slaves, they had a much lower birth rate then the U.S did. Both the death rate and suicide
rate was also higher in Brazil compared to the U.S. Due to the low birthrate and the high death rate,
Brazil had trouble to maintain a population resulting in having to continuously import slaves. On the
other hand, the average number of children born to an early 19th century U.S slave woman was 9.2;
this is twice as many as Brazil and the Caribbean. All these reasons are why Brazil

The Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster Essay
1.0 Introduction
Seventy three seconds into its 10th flight, on January 28, 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger broke
apart over the Atlantic Ocean, killing the seven crew members on board [1]. The Challenger was the
second space shuttle constructed by NASA and had completed nine successful missions prior to the
disaster. Following the accident, the shuttle program was suspended for 32 months as President
Ronald Regan appointed a Commission, chaired by William P. Rogers and known as the Rogers
Commission, to investigate the cause of the accident [1].

At the time, NASA s goal was two reach two launches per month, a goal that well exceeded the budget
and training facilities available [2].
The night before the launch, a teleconference between Thiokol and NASA was held to address the
concerns regarding the performance of the SRB O ring seal in cold weather. Thiokol recommended
that the launch be postponed since there was no data available for temperatures below 53°F [2]. After
internal discussions in the Thiokol group, senior management eventually endorsed the launch,
recommending it to proceed, reversing their original decision [2]. Rockwell, the shuttle s primary
contractor, did not support the launch due to the possibility of ice leaving the structure and damaging
the thermal shield tiles during takeoff. Their concerns were relayed to NASA, but in such a way that
NASA chose to proceed with the launch [2]. Though this was eventually determined to be a non issue
in the Challenger launch, the true nature of the problems that can occur when an object strikes the
shuttle during takeoff would not be learned until 2003, when the space shuttle Columbia disintegrated
on re entry due to damage of a heat shield tile that occurred during takeoff [2] [3].
Despite the concerns raised, the Challenger was launched on January 28, 1986 [4]. Seventy three

Clostridia Essay
The fermentation that occurs during the making of good silage focuses on the conversion of
carbohydrates from the plants anaerobically converted into lactic acid. This is an incredibly simple
process brought on by the homolactic Lactobacillus bacteria as the carbohydrates such as glucose as
converted into 2 molecules of pyruvate by glycolysis, which is then converted into 2 molecules of
lactic acid; creating ATP and involving both the reduction of NAD+ for use in glycolysis, but then also
the oxidation of NADH to regenerate more NAD+ (Morton J S, 1980). However, secondary
fermentation can be taken by the Clostridia bacteria if the pH does not increase fast enough, which
convert the produced lactic acid into butyric acid, increasing the pH but ... Show more content on

The two loosely packed silage s also indicated an increased production of Clostridia behaviour as the
pH was slightly higher from the conversion of lactate to butyrate, caused specifically by Saccharolytic
Clostridia (Muck R E 1988), and the high levels of Ammonia Nitrogen due to the Clostridia
consuming the amino acids and proteins and producing ammonia as the waste product. This data
suggests that this kikuyu grass barely entered the primary fermentation stage properly due to the
incredibly loose packing of the grass, therefore having a large surface area, and having a constant
supply of oxygen. As seen in figure 10., the Crude Protein (CP) percentage in the silage of the
immature and mature loosely packed kikuyu is also the most varied from the grass CP (0.7%
difference for the immature, 0.2% for the mature), further indicating the Clostridia growth as the
Proteolytic Clostridia (Muck R E 1988) consumed the protein and converted it to ammonia during the
fermentation, and therefore there is less protein available for the ruminants to digest and absorb
(Rasby R, Martin J, n.d). Although the two loosely packed silage s had a low butyric acid percentage,
the other factors indicated that this was the poorest silage when applying it to real scenarios; the high
ammonia and poor nutritional value makes this silage disastrous to feed to

Domestic Abuse
Abuse occurs when people mistreat or misuse other people, showing no concern for their integrity or
intent worth as individuals. There are different types of abuse, examples are, family abuse, neglect,
and emotional abuse. On average, most children that grow up in an abusive home are most likely to
become abusive towards their spouse and or kids. Family abuse can be the worse because it affects the
whole family. Emotional abuse affects the inside and that can be mentally damaging. Most of the time,
neglect abuse is not always intentional. It s caused by inexperienced parents not knowing how to raise
the child. This paper, will focus on the affects domestic abuse has on children. When children are
exposed to family violence, it effect the children mentally and physically. It makes kids fearful of
other adults or elders. The child could start to lie about the abuse and start to feel that it s their fault.
Which makes them afraid to even talk to their own family about the abuse. It can lead the child to
abuse drugs when they get older. Children can even grow up to resent their parents for abusing them
or to even let it happen. The child can grow up to feel that it s ok to hit their loved ones or be ... Show

Research Paper On Io
Volcanology of Io Volcanos have played a colossal part in human history; mainly by destroying cities
and killing the people in them. While Earth is volcanically active there are other locations that surpass
it in activity. To find one of these places one must go through the Kuiper belt to the gas giant Jupiter.
Jupiter, while the biggest planet in our solar system comes second to Saturn for the most amount of
moons. There are sixty three total moons and fifty three of them have been officially named. Whether
it be size or composition, they all vary greatly from one another. The four biggest, known as the
Galilean moons, were named after the astronomer Galileo who discovered them over 400 years ago.
Their names are Io, Europa, Ganymede, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The different types of eruptions that come from the volcanoes that stretch across Io play a significant
role in its volcanology. There are three popular types of eruptions that occur on Io. These are: flow
dominated, explosion dominated, and Intra patera eruptions. Flow dominated eruptions produce
extensive compound lava flow fields... similar to compound inflationary flows commonly observed on
Hawaiian eruptions on Earth (Lopes 2015). These flows make up a major terrain type on Io. Many of
the major flows are produced by build ups of small breakouts of lava on top of older flows. They
differ from the other popular eruptions because they can last for years, have a low output of energy,
and can have flow fields larger than 300 kilometers. The opposite of this style of eruption is explosion
dominated eruptions. Where most of the energy of the eruption is directed into a short lived, vigorous
event that lasts days to weeks... can produce extensive pyroclastic deposits and lava flow fields, and
typically a large ( 200 km high) plume, thought to originate from the interaction of silicate magma
with sulfurous volatiles (Lopes 2015). These eruptions occur when magma deep within Io s molten
mantle reaches the surface and cause alterations in the near infrared brightness. They also have the
potential to cause colossal short lived changes around them. For example, in 1997 an eruption
produced a 400 kilometer wide deposit of silicate and sulfur dioxide. The powerful eruption in
recorded history was explosion dominated and observed by astronomers on February 22, 2001. The
most common of the three eruption types, Intra patera eruptions, occur with or without associated
plumes, and are thought to be lava lakes (Lopes 2015). Generally they have flat floors and steep walls.
Unlike features that are similar on Earth they are usually not located at the peak of a shield volcano.

Improving Quality Of Cameras On Mobile Devices Essay
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Purpose of Plan
With the increasing quality of cameras on mobile devices, imaging document pages as an alternative
to scanning is becoming more feasible. However, camera captured document images may suffer from
degradations arising from the image acquisition process. In the presence of such distortions, the ability
to automatically assess the quality of captured images is also becoming increasingly desirable.
In this project, our aim is to exhibit a detailed study of the types and sources of document image
degradations and then review the techniques for document image degradation. At the end, we discuss
some measures and conduct experiments that are used to characterize document image quality.
1.2 Background Information
Optical character recognition (OCR) is the process of converting the text of a document image into a
format that can be easily edited by a computer. It is widely used as a form of data entry from printed
paper data records, whether passport documents, invoices, bank statement, receipts, business card,
mail, or other documents. There are many commercial OCR systems available, however, most of the
time, poor quality printed documents yield low recognition rates when submitted to them.
It is the most common method of converting printed texts into digital form so that it can be
electronically edited, searched, stored more easily, and used in machine processes such as machine
translation, text to speech, key data and text mining. OCR is a

Saskatoon Research Paper
The western settlement in Saskatoon did not begin until the late 1800s, to be precise 1882 when
Toronto Methodists decided to settle in rapidly thriving prairie land in the province of Saskatchewan.
Led by John Neilson Lake, the group traveled by railway from Ontario to Moosejaw Saskatchewan,
and then lastly they traveled by carriage as the railway construction yet had to be completed in
Saskatchewan. The name Saskatoon may have been derived from a Cree word Mis Sask quah
toomina, used for the local berries found in Saskatoon, now called Saskatoon berries. And thus, people
started to inhabit Saskatoon in 1883.Needless to say, Saskatoon was a very small scale community
with the population of only 113 at the starting point. The rise of Saskatoon commenced in 1890
through the routing of Saskatoon rail line from Regina to Prince Albert, which opened doors to new ...

The Is An Incompatibisist Concerning Determinism And Free...
Holbach is an incompatibisist concerning determinism and free will. In compatibilism is the view that
beliefs in determinism and free will are inconsistent. Inconsistent when you have two beliefs that are
inconsistent if and only if it is impossible for them both to be true at the same time. Meaning one has
to be at least must actually be false. The beliefs I am talking about are determined and to see if the will
is free? He thinks at least one must be false at all times meaning he believes that we do not have free
will. Hume as a very different view than Holbach in some regards. One way he is different is; Hume is
a compatibilist this means he believes in determinism and free will are consistent. Hume has a
different view on what free will even is and he also believes we have liberty. Liberty is the absence of
external constraint. Hume disagrees with Holbach because; Holbach feels that free will requires
anything more than liberty. Holbach argument of free will starts with his premises one. Every action is
caused by a preceding event. Premise two states; no action that is caused by a preceding event is free.
Thus, no action is free. Holbach supports his theory by his belief in determinism in premise one and
being an incompatibles. He believes that are actions re not caused that they are only absence of the
external constraint. Hume arguments that if good were to will it, we would be all be happy. Yet,
neither humans nor animals are happy therefore he does not will

  • 2. Playtime by Jacques Tati Shot Analysis PLAYTIME by Jacques Tati Shot from 03:12 04:48 / Airport waiting room __________________________________________________________________________ Jacques Tati s 1967 film, Playtime, captures a cascading series of events through the sterile architecture of Paris, in which few familiar characters inhabit. Tati s infamous alter ego, Monsieur Hulot, haphazardly occupies many scenes as he stumbles through Paris after trying to contact an American official. The film is confined to no genre, nor does it necessarily form a new one it simply exists in its own right as an exploration of societal function. Originally shot on 70mm, the film carries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The off centre position of the camera in relation to the furniture also allow for the chairs to act as depth cues and show the enormous length of the room. Everything in the frame is in focus, which in a cinema viewing is a lot to take in, especially considering the films aspect ratio of 1.85:1. However, the audiences eyes are cleverly guided around the frame by almost unnaturally loud sounds, some of which are accentuated in post production by Tati. The sounds against the floors create a reverbing echo, highlighting the absurd impracticality of the building. A man and a woman sit in the bottom left hand corner of the frame in what appears to be a waiting area. They are dressed identically in their monotonous grey colours, as if they are enslaved to the colours surrounding them. During the shot s beginning, the audience is drawn to the nuns and their rhythmic footsteps as they enter the frame. Then, through a combination of actor gestures and dialogue, this gaze shifts to the two characters anchored in the foreground of the image. The rattling of a table being wheeled out by a man in white into the frame moves our eyes, as well as the couples own attention, to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Black Language, Then Tell Me, By James Baldwin With a background affected tremendously by the dark history of African Americans, language has become a significant problem to what the term Black English really means to different people. In If Black Language Isn t a Language, Then Tell Me, What Is, James Baldwin attempts to analyze what a language really means and how Black English evolved to fulfill an important role for Americans. Black English sounds proper to blacks, but to whites it may not be a proper use of language. Throughout this essay, Baldwin uses a specific tone and relates to his audience by opening his mind to both emotion and logic while still upholding his credibility. Baldwin tries to persuade the audience to respect the language of Black English using his personal experience. The history of different languages mentioned in the essay is used to help convince the audience of thinking about the term language from a new perspective. Whites and Blacks both may speak the same language, but that does not mean that they understand each other because the language can be spoken in different matters. As Baldwin states, The white man could not possibly understand, and that, indeed, he cannot understand, until today . A white man or black man had to be careful about the words they used in front of each other because some words would be considered offensive for one another. Baldwin uses African American language and culture to reveal the impact that the English language Americans use has created. Throughout the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Examples Of Bravery In The Odyssey Homer s The Odyssey, translated by Robert Fitzgerald, is a classic literature piece written originally in ancient Greece. The book is an epic poem about the hero Odysseus perils and his journey back home after being held away for twenty years. While this is taking place, his son, Telamakhos tries to find his father and gain his place in adulthood. To fully find self respect, Telamakhos must overcome the suitors that have taken over his father s house. Both men commit acts of heroism and bravery throughout the poem. Many characters throughout the story show bravery in our modern way, but Odysseus is the hero of this old story. So these examples of bravery in the Odyssey come from him. Odysseus shows his bravery in a flashback to the time he was on his way home from the ten year war in Troy. In book X, lines 299 301, he tells one of his men Euralokhos: ...rest here then; take food and wine; stay in the black hull s shelter. Let me go, as I see nothing for it but to go. • 8. Baking Soda Lab Report Introduction Baking soda is a common household item. It is used for a variety of things from cooking to cleaning. Baking soda is synthesised on an industrial scale using the Solvay process. The Solvay process consist of using limestone and extreme heat in order to break down the limestone into carbon dioxide and calcium oxide.1 CaCO3(s)→ CO2(g) + CaO(s) The carbon dioxide is then combined with a concentrated solution of water, sodium chloride, and ammonium. The ammonia and water react to make ammonium hydroxide that reacts with sodium and carbon dioxide to form sodium bicarbonate. CO2(g) +NH3(aq)+NaCl(aq)+H2O(l)→NaHCO3(s)+NH4Cl(g)2 The Solvay process then recycles the ammonia by performing an acid base reaction. The calcium oxide is combined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Results and Discussions After filtration, 5.256 g of sodium bicarbonate was obtained. An experimental error in this experiment was that 100 percent of the carbon dioxide did not go through the nalgene tube because some went up the thistle tube. Another source of experimental error was that not all of the sodium bicarbonate could be rinsed off of the glassware and not all of it was filtered. Both sources of experimental error led to a lower yield. Precipitation reactions could have been done to confirm the presence of carbonate ions in the product. Either calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, or silver could have been added to the product and carbonate would have precipitated out. Using stoichiometry and the mole to mole ratio from the 2nd formula listed above, it was found that 3x108 Kg of carbon dioxide is needed to produce the 700,000 tons of Arm and Hammer baking soda. Both have an overall similar principal but differ in various sub arrays, which bring along each of their own advantages and disadvantages. To begin with, the word bitmap originated in the year 1973, and came to be by adding the words bit + map which literally means a map of bits, which perfectly describes the nature of a bitmap graphic. A bitmap is composed of thousands of pixels, each of which has it s own fixed position and can be individually edited, which forms an overall bitmap graphic/image. Bitmaps are largely the standard for Internet graphics but however contain disadvantages. Bitmaps are largely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is a very big difference that helps prepare for a volcanic hazard and that is whether you are in a MEDC or a LEDC. In a MEDC monitoring volcanic zones and potential hazards is an option many LEDC s don t have. In Italy at Mt Etna they have Geochemical monitoring programs currently run by INGV which focus on the analysis of temporal changes, chemical changes and seismic activity. About 20,000 people are feared dead after a volcanic eruption in northern Colombia. Four towns in the Andes region are reported to have been buried when ash spewed out of the volcano, Nevado del Ruiz, causing a mudslide. These people weren t told to evacuate until 2 hours before the major eruption casing massive loss of life. The reason for this late call was because the country didn t trust the people observing the volcano this meant the potential hazard was far greater then it should have been ad the results where horrific. • 12. Total Domination Hannah Arendt Summary Hannah Arendt, the author of The Origins of Totalitarianism, talks about totalitarianism and what it looked like. She describes how the Nazi s ran their government by dehumanizing an individual, group and how they took control over the masses in Germany. In this piece of work, the final chapter Total Domination , also contributes to what it means to be under the rule of a totalitarian government. She goes on about how total domination can be achieved if every person can be reduced to a never changing identity of reactions (Hannah Arendt s Total Domination ). Recently, eastern countries have had revolutions because of totalitarian style governments doing whatever they please. Two recent revolutions from Syria and Libya have shown that these types of governments will not be tolerated. Even Egypt has had its fair share of trouble as well. Hannah Arendt would have applauded the recent revolutions in Syria and Libya because in Libya it began when a human rights lawyer was arrested, both were done to fight for political change, and in Syria it was also done for a better economy. Arendt s idea of total domination cannot be seen in Hosni Mubarak s rule over Egypt. The human rights lawyer Fethi Tarbel, was arrested and sparked the uproar that caused the call of removal for Muammar Gaddafi. In Libya, the government had taken political prisoners and people were especially unhappy about this one. Fethi Tarbel was the coordinator of one of the few independent organizations in Libya a group of families of victims of the Abu Salim prison massacre, where more than 1,200 political prisoners were killed by security forces in 1996 (thenational.ae). This set people off because Mr. Senussi tried to persuade Mr. Tarbel to give up the cause of the Abu Salim victim s families (thenational.ae). People were not happy because they had suffered a tragedy like that and were receiving help, but then the government comes and wanted to shut it down. The families then gathered outside to protest the injustice that happened to Mr. Tarbel. The actions the people took would have made Arendt proud because they were justified and meant to make change happen. With this, people saw this as an opportunity and said, Benghazi wake up, this ... While the idea took many years to develop, it was in fact, a traumatic experience. When prompted to do so, the Indians of their own land were forced to leave everything they had ever known and walk along what is known as the trail of tears . This was a one thousand mile trek that took about two months to complete. According to Steven Mintz chapter titled, Indian Removal thousands of Natives were lost along the long, treacherous walk. Those who refused to walk were eventually forced to, by being bound together and marched in a double file line down the Trail of Tears. Whether or not it was safer for the Indians to leave their home, it was torture. They were forced to endure things that no human should ever have to go through. Were the Indians forced to leave, because the Americans were too concerned with their own being? Many people today question this, as it has happened many different times in history with many different minorities and groups of people. What makes Americans so much better than anyone else? The first person to raise the idea of the Indian Removal was Thomas Jefferson. • 17. Failure Philosophy Let your failure be your motivation to success. Winona Bhushan. Why is failure the key to everything? When climbing a tree, you are bound to fall until you learn from your mistakes. Anything below a hundred percent grade on any given task is failure. These are just two of infinite possibilities of failing. Failure is the result of an action to put it bluntly. There are three poems to help understand this philosophy even further. These include the poem Caged Bird written by the poet, Maya Angelou, Mother To Son, written by the poet, Langston Hughes, and last but certainly not least, The Road Not Taken, written by Robert Frost. The works of literature listed above all revolve around each other in a special way. In each scenario, one reflects on their past in an indirect way of speaking about their decisions or actions. Though, the real question is, how does failure affect these three individuals, and how they did they move past it, or through it? When one feels caged, they are feeling as though they are trapped in their own negative feelings, telling themselves that because of their past failures, they can only talk about how they can t accomplish anything. This is the case in the poem, Caged Bird, by Maya Angelou, in which it states, The free bird thinks of another breeze / and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees / and the fat worms waiting on a dawn bright lawn / and he names the sky his own(Angelou) This means that the free bird, who may be described as someone who has it all, or has had little to no experience with devastating failure. On the other hand, the poem states, But a bird that stalks / down his narrow cage / can seldom see through his bars of rage / his wings are clipped / and his feet are tied / so he opens his throat to sing. (Angelou) This differentiates from the free bird, because the caged bird is described as one who is being restricted into his own limits, basically. One of the things holding him back is his own experiences, while the free bird wonders what is on the other end of the spectrum, as he is handed fat worms and is greeted by soft winds. The poem written by Maya Angelou is supposed to show perspective, on one end the bird is thought of as free, with no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. How Did The Persian Empire Grow Throughout The Achaemenid... In order for something to grow, it needs roots. The roots will soon develop and continue to grow. In relation to this statement, the Achaemenid Empire, in which lasted from 550 330 BC, began as Cyrus II, otherwise known as Cyrus the Great, had continued to conquer lands and grow his empire. By doing so, Cyrus II created the most extensive empire that has been dated throughout history. However, in order for the empire to last, it needed to continue to develop in ways that would benefit the livelihoods of the people. Based on this, the Achaemenid Empire prospered because the Persians had created a stable government, in which organized the empire, contributing to the success of the empire. Likewise, the Achaemenid Empire flourished due to its social class system, which maintained order throughout the empire, along with the completion of tasks that needed to be fulfilled in the empire. Furthermore, the Achaemenid Empire continued to thrive and prosper, due to the myriad amounts of infrastructure that the Persians were able to create and utilize. The Persian government needed to continually maintain stability throughout the empire, as the empire steadily grew in populations and territory. This conveys how the Persian Empire grew in diversity. In order to do so, Persian authority both created an official language and culture, and divided the Empire into provinces, otherwise known as satrapies. Many feared that the government would not effectively mitigate the effects of factions. Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and other Federalists argued in support of a confederate republic because direct democracies would not be able to protect society from factions. Madison states, in the extent and proper structure of the Union, therefore, we behold a Republican remedy for the diseases most incident to Republican Government (173 174). Their argument is void in that their definition of a faction is one sided and the examples they use to support their argument on factions are superficial. However, the Federalists effectively communicate that confederate republics mitigate the harmful effects of factions better than pure democracies. II. What is a Faction? In Federalist 10, Madison defines a faction as a number of citizens...who are united and actuated by some common impulse of passion, or of interest, adverse to the rights of other citizens, or to the permanent and aggregate interests of the community (168). Essentially, Madison believes that factions are groups of people that contribute to the detriment of the common good. From there, the slaves were taken to Brazil and the Caribbean and sold for profit or sold for sugar and molasses to take back to the U.S where then the sugar and molasses was sold to rum makers. In general, the slave trade was horrific and inhumane, however, it is the reason that the U.S and Brazil were able to maintain a steady economy. Although there were many similarities between the Brazilian slaves and the U.S slaves, there were quite a few specific differences as well. One of the largest differences in slavery between Brazil and the U.S was demographic. Generally speaking, the Brazilian slaves were usually decreasing while the U.S slaves were usually increasing. This is due to several reasons. First, the Brazilians had a much lower proportion of female slaves compared to the U.S who had an equal sex ratio. In Brazil, due to the lack of female slaves, they had a much lower birth rate then the U.S did. Both the death rate and suicide rate was also higher in Brazil compared to the U.S. Due to the low birthrate and the high death rate, Brazil had trouble to maintain a population resulting in having to continuously import slaves. On the other hand, the average number of children born to an early 19th century U.S slave woman was 9.2; this is twice as many as Brazil and the Caribbean. All these reasons are why Brazil ... • 28. Clostridia Essay The fermentation that occurs during the making of good silage focuses on the conversion of carbohydrates from the plants anaerobically converted into lactic acid. This is an incredibly simple process brought on by the homolactic Lactobacillus bacteria as the carbohydrates such as glucose as converted into 2 molecules of pyruvate by glycolysis, which is then converted into 2 molecules of lactic acid; creating ATP and involving both the reduction of NAD+ for use in glycolysis, but then also the oxidation of NADH to regenerate more NAD+ (Morton J S, 1980). However, secondary fermentation can be taken by the Clostridia bacteria if the pH does not increase fast enough, which convert the produced lactic acid into butyric acid, increasing the pH but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The two loosely packed silage s also indicated an increased production of Clostridia behaviour as the pH was slightly higher from the conversion of lactate to butyrate, caused specifically by Saccharolytic Clostridia (Muck R E 1988), and the high levels of Ammonia Nitrogen due to the Clostridia consuming the amino acids and proteins and producing ammonia as the waste product. This data suggests that this kikuyu grass barely entered the primary fermentation stage properly due to the incredibly loose packing of the grass, therefore having a large surface area, and having a constant supply of oxygen. As seen in figure 10., the Crude Protein (CP) percentage in the silage of the immature and mature loosely packed kikuyu is also the most varied from the grass CP (0.7% difference for the immature, 0.2% for the mature), further indicating the Clostridia growth as the Proteolytic Clostridia (Muck R E 1988) consumed the protein and converted it to ammonia during the fermentation, and therefore there is less protein available for the ruminants to digest and absorb (Rasby R, Martin J, n.d). Although the two loosely packed silage s had a low butyric acid percentage, the other factors indicated that this was the poorest silage when applying it to real scenarios; the high ammonia and poor nutritional value makes this silage disastrous to feed to ... • 30. Research Paper On Io Volcanology of Io Volcanos have played a colossal part in human history; mainly by destroying cities and killing the people in them. While Earth is volcanically active there are other locations that surpass it in activity. To find one of these places one must go through the Kuiper belt to the gas giant Jupiter. Jupiter, while the biggest planet in our solar system comes second to Saturn for the most amount of moons. There are sixty three total moons and fifty three of them have been officially named. Whether it be size or composition, they all vary greatly from one another. The four biggest, known as the Galilean moons, were named after the astronomer Galileo who discovered them over 400 years ago. Their names are Io, Europa, Ganymede, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The different types of eruptions that come from the volcanoes that stretch across Io play a significant role in its volcanology. There are three popular types of eruptions that occur on Io. These are: flow dominated, explosion dominated, and Intra patera eruptions. Flow dominated eruptions produce extensive compound lava flow fields... similar to compound inflationary flows commonly observed on Hawaiian eruptions on Earth (Lopes 2015). These flows make up a major terrain type on Io. Many of the major flows are produced by build ups of small breakouts of lava on top of older flows. They differ from the other popular eruptions because they can last for years, have a low output of energy, and can have flow fields larger than 300 kilometers. The opposite of this style of eruption is explosion dominated eruptions. Where most of the energy of the eruption is directed into a short lived, vigorous event that lasts days to weeks... can produce extensive pyroclastic deposits and lava flow fields, and typically a large ( 200 km high) plume, thought to originate from the interaction of silicate magma with sulfurous volatiles (Lopes 2015). These eruptions occur when magma deep within Io s molten mantle reaches the surface and cause alterations in the near infrared brightness. They also have the potential to cause colossal short lived changes around them. For example, in 1997 an eruption produced a 400 kilometer wide deposit of silicate and sulfur dioxide. The powerful eruption in recorded history was explosion dominated and observed by astronomers on February 22, 2001. The most common of the three eruption types, Intra patera eruptions, occur with or without associated plumes, and are thought to be lava lakes (Lopes 2015). Generally they have flat floors and steep walls. Unlike features that are similar on Earth they are usually not located at the peak of a shield volcano. Their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Improving Quality Of Cameras On Mobile Devices Essay INTRODUCTION 1.1 Purpose of Plan With the increasing quality of cameras on mobile devices, imaging document pages as an alternative to scanning is becoming more feasible. However, camera captured document images may suffer from degradations arising from the image acquisition process. In the presence of such distortions, the ability to automatically assess the quality of captured images is also becoming increasingly desirable. In this project, our aim is to exhibit a detailed study of the types and sources of document image degradations and then review the techniques for document image degradation. At the end, we discuss some measures and conduct experiments that are used to characterize document image quality. 1.2 Background Information Optical character recognition (OCR) is the process of converting the text of a document image into a format that can be easily edited by a computer. It is widely used as a form of data entry from printed paper data records, whether passport documents, invoices, bank statement, receipts, business card, mail, or other documents. There are many commercial OCR systems available, however, most of the time, poor quality printed documents yield low recognition rates when submitted to them. It is the most common method of converting printed texts into digital form so that it can be electronically edited, searched, stored more easily, and used in machine processes such as machine translation, text to speech, key data and text mining. OCR is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. The Is An Incompatibisist Concerning Determinism And Free... Holbach is an incompatibisist concerning determinism and free will. In compatibilism is the view that beliefs in determinism and free will are inconsistent. Inconsistent when you have two beliefs that are inconsistent if and only if it is impossible for them both to be true at the same time. Meaning one has to be at least must actually be false. The beliefs I am talking about are determined and to see if the will is free? He thinks at least one must be false at all times meaning he believes that we do not have free will. Hume as a very different view than Holbach in some regards. One way he is different is; Hume is a compatibilist this means he believes in determinism and free will are consistent. Hume has a different view on what free will even is and he also believes we have liberty. Liberty is the absence of external constraint. Hume disagrees with Holbach because; Holbach feels that free will requires anything more than liberty. Holbach argument of free will starts with his premises one. Every action is caused by a preceding event. Premise two states; no action that is caused by a preceding event is free. Thus, no action is free. Holbach supports his theory by his belief in determinism in premise one and being an incompatibles. He believes that are actions re not caused that they are only absence of the external constraint. Hume arguments that if good were to will it, we would be all be happy. Yet, neither humans nor animals are happy therefore he does not will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
