Four-Point Focus

     Management
      On task, expectations are clear, students understand
      Students have lots of opportunity to respond
      Teacher respects students, communicates high expectations


     Content
      Detailed plans, developed essential questions,
      Teacher can identify core questions/concepts for the course
      Teacher can clearly and simply explain the concepts


     Instruction
      Students are prepared, teacher models thinking and other
      processes for students
      Asks question at a variety of levels
      Provides constructive feedback
      Uses language, analogies, examples and stories to help kids
      remember
      Effective summary at end of lesson


     Formative Assessment
      Teacher knows and communicates target
      Uses formative assessment to gauge student learning
      Student are involved in development and use of formative
      assessment
      Teacher has knowledge of how each student is doing
