1. “The Hand That Rocks The Cradle Rules The
World.”
“The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.” Don’t you think this line
has lost its meaning in today’s world? Its importance lies only in the
hypothetical imagination of a writer. The ‘mother’ no longer has the
power to rule this world.
How can she rule a world that gives her so much of pain, so much of
suffering and inflicts so many atrocities? Although she’s the one who
carries a part of her being for 9 months, takes care of her offspring from
day 1 till the time they are old enough to look after themselves -her caring
never stops. Why is the mother, the birth giver made to suffer?
The MOTHER, the Woman is not free either. She is ruled upon and every
step taken by her is influenced by the men in her life; her father, brother,
husband, etc. She always stays in a state of fear. The position of women in

2. society has declined from a Goddess to a mere object of humiliation.
Women are never given the right to enjoy their liberty and equality. Men
treat them in a humiliating manner. They are not allowed to step outside
of the house. They are forced to give up their right to a proper education.
They are under the influence of their parents before marriage and under
their husbands after marriage.
Their condition remains unchanged even today in this modern world
where India hopes to be called a ‘developed’ country. Our society
continues to experience crime against women. Women are subjected to
many crimes such as rape, voyeurism, eve-teasing, acid attack , stalking
,female infanticide, dowry, etc. These crimes have increased rapidly in our
country despite government efforts to curb them. The most horrific and
depressing case that occurred last year on 16 Dec 2012 shocked the
country. A 23 year old paramedic student was brutally assaulted and
gang-raped in the capital of the country Delhi, throwing a spotlight on
crimes against women in the country .Thousands of men and women
thronged the roads to protest against this. They demanded changes to be
made, particularly a change in the attitude towards women. They
demanded for better protection for women. They demanded a change in
gender laws and laws against crimes towards women. They demanded a
change in the mindset of the society and speedy justice to be executed on
the rapists. They wanted death penalty for the rapists.
Crimes against women have to come to an end, a permanent end. Women
have to be empowered. Only by empowering women the country will
progress. Women empowerment is very important especially in a country
like India.

3. Women are at par with men in every field, be it sport, politics or
professional activities. In India, women have held high offices including
that of President, Prime Minister, Speaker of the Lower House ,
Ambassador of a country, etc. Still in many parts of the country, women
are still considered homemakers and not bread-winners. They are
considered the liability of the family rather than an important asset.
Girls are not provided with proper education nor are they accepted in
many parts of India. The birth-givers are not given birth to. In India, the
male-female ratio has changed dramatically in favour of men as a result
of female infanticide and sex-selective abortions. They are killed even
before entering the world. People don’t understand the importance of a
girl. The world will become extinct without her.
Dowry is also a very serious crime against women leading to their suicides
and murders. These devastating things are happening in a country like
India where women are worshipped in the names of Goddess Lakshmi,
Durga, Saraswati , Parvati, Kali, etc. These problems are faced by every
woman in any corner of the country. Women are no longer merely
housewives or caregivers. They are no longer at their husbands’ beck and
call. Women have personal opinions, a voice and freedom which, given a
chance, they use and prove themselves. They have taken up so many
careers outside the home. But some major upliftments still remain.
Women should be given a chance to be as they wish. Women should not
be treated as property of men. Women should be given equal chances as
men. Women should be treated at par with men. A girl child should be
accepted!

4. Crimes against women should come to an end. Women should be relieved
of so much pain and suffering. The position of women should again be
uplifted to that of a goddess and a mother.
