3. Gunman Shoots Multiple Times Injuring Officer MARCH 25, 2009 38-year-old Bryan Langford shot several times at an Orange City police officer earlier today. Sherif el-Shami, 26, the injured officer was answering a domestic violence call when he was shot Wednesday morning.
4. Orange City police Chief Jeffrey Baskoff said he did not think his officer could have done anything differently to avoid being hurt. "He was ambushed," Baskoff said. El-Shami has suffered some loss of eyesight because of injuries to his face and head, but it is too early to tell whether the loss is permanent, the chief said. "His spirits are high," said Baskoff, who called El-Shami "the epitome of a police officer."
