2. Children love to travel because traveling implies visiting new places,
discovering things, playing, trekking, cruising and a lot of fun, but
can children with limited mobility and lower limb impairment enjoy
in the same way?
Children with lower limb impairment are unable to walk and run,
which means they have limited or no access to outdoor activities.
While traveling, particularly, their disability to move makes them feel
sad and miserable since they also wish to visit places and enjoy the
trip like their other family members. Although parents make different
efforts to amuse their children with limited mobility, but following four
ways are most entertaining as well as effective.
3. Books/Comics
It is said, “A book is man’s best friend.” Same applies to women and
children. Likewise, children suffering with lower limb impairment can
be provided information-rich books, comics of their favorite
characters, and some interesting fictional stories. While book
reading will keep them busy, they won’t get bored and will be able
to improve their vocabulary as well, but make sure to provide them
scenic settings so that they enjoy the environment and surroundings
as well.
However, you can’t expect children to read books throughout the
day, can you? At the end of the day, they look for other amusing
ways.
4. Puzzles & Board Games
Puzzles, board games and blocks, on one hand, are effective in
developing and improving spatial reasoning abilities of children
and, on the other hand, serve as interesting and captivating
activities. So, while you are traveling, keep some exciting board
games and puzzles in your suitcases for your children with lower limb
impairment, which will enable them to spend their time
productively.
5. Gadgets & Video Games
Undoubtedly, puzzles are a great way to entertain oneself, but
children lose interest in them once they are solved. Before they
begin to get bored, provide video games and other electronic
gadgets like digital camera, iPod, PlayStation, etc.
However, although these gadgets and games are a good source of
entertainment, children still wish to go out and explore new places.
Can you confine them to a room, lounge, balcony or terrace? Of
course, no.
6. Electric Scooter
Children with lower limb impairment can have a great traveling
experience if they are provided electric scooters. The
aforementioned things might limit their desire to explore outdoor
settings, but electric scooter allows these children to move
independently and cover long distances at ease. With electric
scooters it gets easier and stress-free to visit places with children with
limited mobility as parents are sure their children are comfortable
and enjoying.
Children are sensitive, and children with lower limb impairment even
more. Restrictions and helplessness could be depressing for them.
Thus, while you are traveling, make sure you do all these
arrangements to give your children a memorable and fun-filled
traveling experience.
