1. MELAVASAL SLUM SLUM: A heavily populated urban area characterized by substandard Housing and Squalor. On areas an area of poor housing often characterized by Muti-occupance over crowding. Madurai Total Slums : 208

2. HISTORY In the beginning Melavasal Slum is considered as a Waste Land. Slum was originated in 1905,1910 by days it was grown as a slum later on they take waste as their income generating source which make them more fulfill. The place of slum is waste dumping place. The waste which are been dumped by the society.

3. DIFFICULTIES Inhabitants who were residing now in Avaniyapuram come under the MelavasalPuram ward. So far work, education, Hospital, Ration they need to go to Melavasal. Inhabitants felt that half of their income Is being spent for Transportation. They are looking forward the day to shift over to Melavasal.
