• Requirement for lights, brakes, and a bells to be fitted

In Melbourne associate Sam Faulkiner received letters instructing him to hold
two bags until Ryan arrived. Ryan sent his share of the loot in those bags. The
bags travelled on the 15th June 1914.

29th June 1914 Ryan disguised himself and boarded a train to Melbourne. In a
later police statement, he proudly described how he managed to get on the
train when the station was ‘loaded’ with police.

93. September 1914 At trial Ryan claimed he was a struggling inventor who had only
come to Sydney to find buyers for his invention. Ryan stated he had nothing to do
with the robbery.
