TACO BELL
• Taco Bell was founded by Glen Bell, who first opened a hot
dog stand called Bell’s Drive-In in San
Bernardino, California in 1946 when he was 23 years old.
• Six years later, he sold the stand and opened a new one two
years later, this time selling tacos under the name of Taco-
Tia.
• Over the next few years Bell owned and operated a number
of restaurants in southern California including four called El
Taco.
• Bell sold the El Tacos to his partner and built the first Taco
Bell in Downey in 1962.
• In 1970, Taco Bell went public with 325 restaurants. In
1978, PepsiCo purchased Taco Bell from Glen Bell.

HISTORY
• The Taco Bell Foundation for Teens was founded
in 1992 (initially as the Taco Bell Foundation, Inc.)
with the purpose of serving America’s teens —
many of whom are our customers, our
employees, our friends and families. Working
closely with franchisees, local community
partners and customers, the Foundation has
inspired and enabled teens in your neighborhood
to graduate high school and reach their full
potential through our programs, partnerships,
and direct financial assistance.
• Since 1992, the Taco Bell Foundation for Teens has
inspired and enabled teens to graduate high school and
reach their full potential through its programs,
partnerships, and direct financial assistance. The
Foundation’s support has impacted the lives of more
than one million teens.
• They offer core programs that motivate teens to stay in
school and provide job training to help them identify
career opportunities and interests.
• They partner with like-minded community
organizations and ambassadors proven to have a
measureable impact on the lives of teens.
• They provide grants and scholarships so that teens
have access to the resources they need to reach their
full potential.
MISSION & PROMISE
• M ind: To empower teens to pursue their
education and careers
• A ctive Lifestyle: To engage teens in healthy
habits
• S pirit: To encourage teens to give back, share
their successes and have fun doing it!
PARTNERS
• The Taco Bell Foundation for Teens builds
partnerships with organizations that share the
Foundation’s purpose and promise to inspire
and enable teens to achieve más and graduate
from high school. Through new and existing
partners, they believe they can have a greater
impact on the lives of teens and amplify our
reach
The Taco Bell Foundation for Teens is proud
partner of America’s Promise Alliance, the nation’s
largest partnership dedicated to improving the lives of
children and youth. In February 2013, the Foundation
participated in “Building a Grad Nation Summit” in
Washington D.C. More than 800 individuals gathered to
support the goal of ending the high school dropout
crisis.
Since 1995, the Taco Bell Foundation for Teens
has awarded more than $35 million to Boys & Girls
Clubs of America (BGCA), making it BGCA’s largest
supporter of teens to date. In 2012, BGCA honored
Taco Bell as the first corporation to receive its
Lifetime Achievement Award for 20 years of its
sustained commitment to teens. BGCA serves 4
million youth through 4,000 Clubs nationwide
In partnership with Get Schooled, the Taco Bell
Foundation for Teens launched Graduate for Más™,
a year-round program that challenges America’s
teens to make a personal promise to graduate high
school, encourages them to join a digital community
of peers, and rewards their commitment through
resources and incentives to keep teens on track and
diploma bound.
For more than 17 years, the Taco Bell
Foundation for Teens has been the national sponsor of
the Boys & Girls Clubs’ most dynamic teen program,
Keystone Club. Keystone Clubs are chartered small
group leadership development clubs for young people
ages 14 to 18. Keystoners elect officers, choose their
own activities and plan and implement projects
focused on community service, education and career
preparation. A national charter entitles a Keystone Club
to participate in regional and national Keystone
conferences. There are more than 1,600 Keystone Clubs
nationwide.
The Taco Bell Foundation for Teens is also a
major supporter of the Mark Wahlberg Youth
Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by
brothers Mark and Jim Wahlberg to improve the
quality of life for inner city youth. Together, we fund
youth programs across the country and launched a
national awareness campaign in 2011 to bring
attention to the nation’s high school dropout crisis.
GRADUATE FOR MÁS™
• The Taco Bell Foundation for Teens, in
partnership with Get Schooled, challenges
America’s teens to make a personal promise to
graduate high school and join our digital
community of pledges. Once registered, teens
receive the information and inspiration they need
to succeed. By staying active, they can earn
points for prizes, rewards and educational
support, including scholarships, and mentoring
resources in their communities.
CAMP TACO BELL
• “Camp Taco Bell®” is a business leadership
program where teens are teamed up with Taco
Bell leadership and franchise owners to compete
in the kitchen. Teens develop and market new
Taco Bell menu items during a two-day business
camp, to win scholarships and grants.
• Last year, local Los Angeles area Taco Bell
franchisees funded the event with 90 teenagers
from local Boys & Girls Clubs across Southern
California.
• The winning team of five teens from the
Carson Boys & Girls Club received a combined
total of $15,000 in scholarships and grants to
fund their futures. Their “Live Large Burrito”
claimed victory in a final “taste-off” held at
the Los Angeles Taco Bell restaurant located at
6254 Lexington Ave., where customers voted
with their mouths on their favorite teen-
created menu item
TACO BELL FOUNDATION FOR TEENS
STUDIOS
• Taco Bell Foundation for Teens Studios is a
national mentoring program that supports
year-round film and music projects, as well as
job shadowing opportunities for teens to
experience firsthand how their work will apply
in the real world. The Studios were created in
partnership with the Mark Wahlberg Youth
Foundation.
TACO BELL GRANTS
• The Taco Bell Foundation for Teens provides
grants and scholarships so that teens have access
to the resources they need to reach their full
