2. One of the first images that comes to mind when one thinks south is the “good old boy” or hillbilly. This is the kind of man that has at least one hunting dog or .22 caliber rifle in the bed of his truck at all times.

3. Another common stereotype of the south is the gentlemanly old man who loves to tell stories to the next generation and pass on his knowledge and life experience.

4. Another common stereotype of the south is the hunter. The kind of man who would love to spend all of his days shooting deer from the back of his truck. He always has a beer or 6 at hand and is perpetually ready to shoot and eat any creature, cougar to squirrel.

5. A large stereotype of the south is the watermelon loving, work-hating, lazy black man. This one has been around since the puritans landed at Plymouth rock and will probably ever go away.

6. The old swamp man or hermit is another white stereotype of the American south, especially in areas like Louisiana and Missouri. This is the kind of man that would rather spend his time learning every nook and cranny of the bayou.

7. A common idea that comes to mind is the African nanny or house servant. This is even more firmly set up by women like Rosalie in The Secret Life of Bees and Calpurnia in To Kill a Mocking Bird.

8. The “southern belle” is another common image of the south. Women such as Scarlet O’Hara have put this even more firmly into the minds of northerners and westerners of America.

9. The southern BBQ ideal is probably one of the most recognized sources of food in the U.S. You cant drive through any city in the U.S. and not see at least one BBQ pit.
