The Michelangelo Phenomenon got its name from the famous sculptor as “the self becomes a reflection of the interdependence reality created by the partner” (Drigotas et al., 1999, p. 294). Individuals are motivated to move their actual self closer to their ideal self because it increases well-being. Partners can help or hinder this process by either showing affirmation or disaffirming their partners. The Michelangelo Phenomenon explains the process of how close relationship partners (i.e. the sculptor) can affirm or disaffirm the target’s (i.e. the sculpted) ideal self and how the affirmation influences movement toward the target’s ideal self.

OVERVIEW w Write a 3–4-page assessment in which you use examples and research findings to explain the connections between technology and self-regulation. The more self-knowledge and self-awareness we have, the more intentional we can be about our behavioral choices and the more we can resolve conflicts between ourselves and the social world. CONTEXT Research conducted on the delay of gratification in the 1960s by Walter Mischel and his colleagues attempted to explain the concept of willpower by examining how long preschool children could resist settling for a small, immediately available reward in order to get a larger reward later. Follow-up surveys with the same group found that children who were able to resist for a longer period of time also scored higher on SAT tests, had higher levels of self-worth, and coped better with stress. The study also found that those children who had at first decided to wait and then chose the immediate reward were 30 percent more likely to be overweight by the age of 11 (Mischel, et al., 2011). Some of the ways the children self-regulated their behavior in order to delay gratification to receive a higher reward were to lay their heads down on the table, nap, talk to themselves, and sing. Downs Ohio State University Five studies tested hypotheses derived from the sociometer model of self-esteem according to which the self-esteem system monitors others' reactions and alerts the individual to the possibility of social exclusion. Study 1 showed that the effects of events on participants' state self-esteem paralleled their assumptions about whether such events would lead others to accept or reject them. In Study 2, participants' ratings of how included they felt in a real social situation correlated highly with their self-esteem feelings. In Studies 3 and 4, social exclusion caused decreases in self-esteem when re- spondents were excluded from a group for personal reasons, but not when exclusion was random, but this effect was not mediated by self-presentation. Study 5 showed that trait self-esteem correlated highly with the degree to which respondents generally felt included versus excluded by other people. Overall, results provided converging evidence for the sociometer model. The proposition that people have a fundamental need to maintain their self-esteem has provided the cornerstone for a great deal of work in personality, social, developmental, clinical, and counseling psychology. In the century since William James (1890) first referred to self-esteem as an "elementary endow- ment of human nature," many classic theories of personality have addressed the importance of self-esteem needs, many emotional and behavioral problems have been attributed to un- fulfilled needs for self-esteem, and many psychotherapeutic ap- proaches have focused in one way or another on the client's feel- ings about himself or herself (Adler, 1930; Allport, 1937; Bed- nar. Wells, & Peterson, 1989; Horney, 1937; Maslow, 1968; Rogers, 1959). Among social psychologists, the self-esteem mo- tive has been offered as an explanation of a wide array of phe- nomena, including self-serving attributions (Blaine & Crocker, 1993), reactions to evaluation (S. C. Jones, 1973), self-handi- capping (E. E. Jones & Berglas, 1978), downward social com- parison (Wills, 1981), attitude change (Steele, 1988), and in- group/but-group perceptions (Crocker, Thompson, McGraw, &Ingerman, 1987). The main purpose of this study was to assess the Self Concept among Intermediate students of A.P. Model Schools. In this study, Normative Survey Method was adopted. The participants of the study were 200 Intermediate II year students of ten A.P. Model Schools , Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh, India in 2014-2015 session. The researchers used Self Concept checklist developed by N. Venkataramana (1976). Its validity and reliability has been well established. Data was analyzed using Descriptive Statistics and Differential Analysis (t-test). The findings revealed that the subgroups of Intermediate students did not show any significant difference in the five dimensions of Self Concept. Among the five dimensions, the first three are negative dimensions and last two are positive dimensions. A negative relationship was found between the first three dimensions and subgroups where as a positive relationship was found between the last two dimensions and subgroups. Based on the findings, suggestions were made that same study may be extended to A.P. Model Schools of 13 Districts of Andhra Pradesh, other Junior colleges, Degree colleges, PG colleges, Engineering and Medical colleges etc. Different other variables like management, locality, birth order, caste, educational status of father, educational status of mother, size of family etc. can be included.

Businesses increasingly need to be able to justify their choices, actions, and inactions regarding social value, avoid unintended and adversarial consequences, meet ESG reporting standards, and keep customer trust. 40% of the global population are “Aspirationals” valuing both quality and design and environmental and social impact. This way, ethical topics are not relevant for risk management and compliance only but move to value generation. The just published ‘State of Responsible Technology’ by MIT Technology Review Insights found that 73% of senior executives and directors surveyed either strongly or somewhat agree that responsible technology considerations will eventually be as important as financial considerations in technology decision-making.
