Politicallyā¦people are getting involved! Groupsare forming around interests, same values, same interests. Just as Kennedy was very keen to image the TV created, Obama understood the effectiveness of communication and mobilizing groups via the internet. We also saw politics in action with the Sopa (stop online piracy act and Pipa bill Protect IP Act, as millions found sites that were blacked out in protest. Business is changing the way it does workā¦..Did you ever look up something on the net, and then find that advertisements were finding a way into your facebook, your yahoo, your google page? And you thought it was divine intervention giving you signs that it was okay to buy that item!!!! Well, it wasnāt divine intervention or coincidence. Business track your clicks, your web hits. A little scary, but if you can ignore the subliminal messages, your okay! But businesses are listening to customers. Allstateā¦.using their searches in tweets, notices a disgruntled customer, tweeting to friends. All of a sudden, they fix her problemā¦..business are listening to the customers.
Media has changed. How many have cell phones here? How many have cameras on their phones? Everyone all of a sudden becomes an journalistā¦not professionally, which is a problem, but it is also another way of getting the story toldā¦sometimes instantly. G 20 beating was documented from one personā¦who had a cell phone camera. The story can be good stories, too! People arenāt using TV to get the newsā¦they go on the internetā¦.or people tweet them articles, intersting posts, videos. News is from varioius sources, and is many times within groups of people.

How will the church use the internet to bring people togetherā¦to connect one anotherā¦.to connect with kids???How will the church get the āstoryā out and share witness of Christ? Where was God today?How will the church do business? How can it listen to the people and provide a good āproductā to families and children?
Think in new waysā¦Itās not right, wrong, bad, goodā¦.its just differentā¦Forget today! We must think in terms of tomorrow!
We canātā¦we have to move to the future waysā¦We must meet our children where they are, teach in the ways they need to learn, connect with families in their time frames.
Text books?Send papers home for children..TO DO WITH PARENTS????Do you get them back??? Are they ever looked again? Are they shared with anyone? The idea was to connect children with parents for activities, but did that happen?
Think in new ways. Use new ways to do old things.Andā¦most of this is FREE, or very inexpensiveā¦after the computer. Most students or families have at least one computer now. But there are also ways to share, which we will get to.
I am going to show you very quickly a few examples of ways to use the web to create lessons for both students AND familiesā¦.share information in the parish and among your catechetical teamā¦listen to those you minister toā¦and of courseā¦share the Gospel story.
As I mentioned before, information is accessible at anytimeā¦there isnāt a need to āmemorizeā in todayās worldā¦not that it isnāt an important skillā¦howeverā¦.letsā look at what skills are in learning. Memorizing and remembering is on the lowest order of Thinking Skills .LOTS. If we want our students to really internalize learningā¦we need to go beyond memorizingā¦.. Notice our delicious is in remembering.

A new term in education is called āflipping the Classroomā. All the tools so far mentioned are all able to be viewed and shared on the web. This is where we can start thinking in NEW ways and Flip what faith formation looks like! It is differentā¦there are plusses and minusesā¦.It is different. But what is nice is that you can flip it only as far as you want! You donāt have to turn your world completely upside down, but you can blend these tools into your program, whether it is tradional week to week, or mini course scheduling, coaching with parents, or whole community catechesis.First you will need a base to work from. A website or blog.

Delicious is nice as you can set up a free account. Once you do, you follow the simple directions to drag the capture tool to your toolbar..choices for various browsersā¦I have one for firefox and it is also on my safari browser. There is also one for explorer. From there, once your account is open, you can tag items to save websites. You can have several accounts,..the one that is open at the time is where you will save to. So you can have a family dilicious where you might save vacations spots, recipes, christmas wish listsā¦.and one for faith formation. You can save video pages, favorite sites. Open my delicious. Minimize and bring up delicious. Note tags, notes, (God..fingerprint), stacks) Tsave a siteā¦ All the websites I share today will be in a stack, which I will give to you at the end of this session.)Another social bookmark is DIIGO. Again, you can set up a free account, drag the nifty app to your browser, and begin tagging sites. Few other features in thisā¦.already gives you tag suggessions, lets you highlight so when you come back you can see what was important at that site, capture pictures and images.. And shareā¦Then we have livebinders. Again, sign up is free and you can add the app to your toolbar. If you like a traditional feel to your organization method, livebinder is just that. I will admit, I did not create binders. For a while, I was using lb as a way to archive church bulletins for our website. However, what I really like in live binders is viewing others. You can also use this to upload pictures in a private binder, giving a password to only those allowed to visit.Finally, new in the market is pinterest. Again, FREE and includes a simple toolbar app for easy bookmarking. Very visual.
Curatingā¦giving our students and families GOOD catholic websites, weeding out wrong teachings, etc. You can embed your tags right on a website.Projects for studentsā¦as they do research, they can create a stack of researched pages, and cite their work in a stack. Itās not APA style, but you can see the sites they used for research. You can Assign them to simply find three websites about Marianne Cope. Have them share their stack with you via blog, website, or in class. I call it a āShort Stackā lessons. Or you can have āshort stacksā already prepared, and have students, families, sponsors view the items in the short stack. Here is an example of a short stack for Confirmation. If you have a smart phone, you can scan the QR code I created. (I will show that later!)

Cleanerā¦more ability to designate pages and posts by categories. But, all in all, same thing. Documents are easier to upload in wordpress. There are free versions and subscriptions.In both you will find settings to allow authors for your siteā¦who can actually go in and create the site.Other settings for design, comments, etc.
