Generic Drugs is the only solution to tackle these
problem.
Generic Drugs are low cost then any other brand
drugs in India.
Same chemical composition as Branded drugs sold
under their chemical name.
• eg. Paracetamol (Pain killer)—Generic drug
• Crocin, Calpol (Pain killer)- Brand drug
A huge amount of Generic drugs are exported from
India to other countries.

7. Government role
• To promote cheap drugs in 2008, the gov. had
set up a scheme called “Jan Ausadhi” whose
purpose was to set up Generic Drugs across
the Country.
• The initial plan was to set up 3000 store across
the country but 3 years later only 300 exists.
• But this scheme fails due to lack of awareness
and incentives involved from pharma
companies to doctors.

9. Hopeful initiative of Rajasthan government
• Rajasthan government is planning to set up
450 generic medicines stores across the state.
• By the interaction of gov. generic medicines
despite being cheap by 70% than their branded
cousins.
• As per the proposed plan, doctors at
government-run hospitals will have to keep
carbon copy of prescribe medications for
official record

10. • “This way we can keep a check on doctors. We
will also bring down the prices of generic
medicines as well”, health minister of
Rajasthan Aimaduddin Ahmad said.
• This initiation was applauded by two U.N
bodies- United Nations Children Fund
(UNICEF) and the United Nations Population
Fund (UNFPA).
