Facebook - Import Stories Into Mini-Feed Now With More Websites

Around one month back, i wrote a post about importing stories into Mini-Feed from other websites like Flickr,
Picasa, Yelp and del.icio.us

Now Facebook added few more services to import from. These new services are- YouTube, StumbleUpon,
Hulu, Pandora, Last.fm, and Google Reader.

You can connect your Facebook profile with any of the above mentioned websites using quot;import linkquot; in the
corner of your Mini-Feed. Your profile will be synchronized with the latest changes from any of the website
you linked. For Ex. if you upload a video on YouTube, or you write a blog post on your blog, it will be
published in your Facebook profile.

Share more with everyone now with your Facebook profile.

Release Candidate is a public preview release intended for developer testing and community feedback.

HP Reported Strong Results - Beat Analyst Expectations

HP(Hewlett-Packard) today reported the financial results of second quarter 2008. The results were very
strong on chart and it was above the analyst estimates. Here is a quick look of the results-

Second quarter net revenue up 11%, or $2.7 billion, from a year earlier to $28.3 billion -- Second quarter
GAAP operating profit up 22% to $2.6 billion; $0.80 earnings per share, up from $0.65 a year earlier --
Second quarter non-GAAP operating profit up 22% to $2.8 billion; $0.87 earnings per share, up from $0.70 a
year earlier -- Record cash flow from operations of $4.8 billion -- $2.8

HP also posted the outlook of third quarter revenue around $27.3 billion to $27.4 billion. Here is the official
statement from chairman and CEO of the company after HP posted strong results.quot;HP turned in another
strong quarter, supported by improvement across our businesses. With 70 percent of revenue now coming
from outside the U.S., we benefited from robust demand in emerging economies,quot; said Mark Hurd, HP
chairman and chief executive officer. quot;The company's financial outlook demonstrates its strength in the global
marketplace.quot; Few days back HP also released a pressnote about possible acquisition of EDS as a part of
their global expansion and to compete with IBM.

Microsoft And Yahoo - Its Not Yet Over


In last press release from Microsoft about withdrawing proposal to Acquire Yahoo, everyone felt that this
chapter is closed now. But yesterday Microsoft issued a new statement regarding Yahoo. to continue
relations with Yahoo by exploring alternatives to acquisition. Here is that statement-?In light of developments
since the withdrawal of the Microsoft proposal to acquire Yahoo! Inc., Microsoft announced that it is
continuing to explore and pursue its alternatives to improve and expand its online services and advertising
business. Microsoft is considering and has raised with Yahoo! an alternative that would involve a transaction
with Yahoo! but not an acquisition of all of Yahoo! Microsoft is not proposing to make a new bid to acquire all
of Yahoo! at this time, but reserves the right to reconsider that alternative depending on future developments
and discussions that may take place with Yahoo! or discussions with shareholders of Yahoo! or Microsoft or
with other third parties.

?There of course can be no assurance that any transaction will result from these discussions.? It seems
Microsoft wants to stop Yahoo to do any kind of joint activites with Google.

On the other side, Yahoo welcomed this statement from Microsoft and gave indication that Yahoo is ready for
any kind of value maximising transactions. Here is the response from Yahoo-quot;Yahoo! has confirmed with

Another Use Of Twitter - Control Lights

Twitter is becoming more and more powerful as people started building more and more apps based on
Twitter. I came accross a video by Justin on Vimeo about how he controlled lights with Twitter.

Here is what he says-My goal was to turn lights on and off via cell phone text messaging. Using Bob
Paauwe's iLink INSTEON software (http://www.bobsplace.com/ilinks/) as well as Twitter
(http://www.twitter.com), I was able to network my cell phone with my house's electrical system. The goal is to
implement this on a larger scale at the Duke University Smart Home (http://www.smarthome.duke.edu/).

Google Translate Brings 10 New Languages- Fun With Translation

In an announcement made by Google Translate team today, they have added 10 new languages and the
total number of languages are now 23. They have added support for Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish,
Finnish, Hindi, Norwegian, Polish, Romanian and Swedish.

I gave it a try and translated few words of english to my native language(Hindi) and here it is, a clean
translation.

But the funny part was that, when i translated the same english to Japanese and then again to Hindi. Here it
comes, complete different translation. Funny :)

Thanks Google for adding more languages but still there are many things left to improve.

Technology Met Sports


This blog is about technology and few days back, for a change I wrote a post about IPL cricket matches
happening in India and run a live poll on top of my blog.

I get huge number of hits every day on my blog. These are the people who are looking to get some links to
see live IPL matches.
In the world on Internet, when technology is so advanced, high bandwidth and good network conditions are
there yet no authority is showing live matches.

This poll was related to this. I asked quot;Live cricket on Internet is a good idea?quot;. Most of the reponses were
saying yes, few of them wants to see matches only on TV.( Don't know why they landed to this blog :) ).

3% were not able to decide if they want to see matches on TV or internet and only 2% ( Again i don't know
what they were doing in this blog ) said that, its not good to see live matches on internet.

Since the Gmail was launched, i started using it more than my existing Yahoo or Hotmail account because of
its simplicity and Spam filter technique. But it seems with time, spammers have found a way to break the wall
of Gmail. I am getting SPAM mails everyday in my Gmail account and not just one or two, it's more in
numbers. Here are two spam mails out of 5 i received today.PROPOSAL.

that i have serious sickness which is cancer problem. The one that disturbs

Zoho has announced to merge its account with Yahoo and Google. Now you can login into Zoho with any
valid Yahoo or Google account.

Below the Zoho Sign-in section, the option to login with your Google or Yahoo accounts is provided. The

Hewlett-Packard Eyes On EDS To Challenge IBM


Hewlett-Packard, one of the world?s largest IT companies is acquiring Electronic Data Systems Corp. It will
value around $13.9 billion.
This move is to compete with its rival IBM and after the acquisition, Hewlett-Packard will become world's
second-largest provider of technology services after IBM.

According to Wall Street Journal-quot;The combined company would be able to trim overhead costs, while
allowing H-P to sell more servers and workstations to EDS's consulting clients. That's largely been the model
for IBM, which is clearly the competitive target behind the potential acquisition. IBM controlled 7.2% of the
tech-services market last year. EDS was a distant second at 3%, while H-P was fifth, with a 2.3% share.quot;The
news was first reported by Wall Street Journal.

According to Reuters-quot;While Hewlett-Packard has over time built up its own outsourcing practice, this clearly
is a move by Mark Hurd to challenge IBM in the services area,quot; said David Garrity, director of research at
Dinosaur Securities, referring to HP's chief executive.quot;

A bigger HP could compete better against International Business Machines Corp (IBM) in going after large
clients and help it keep costs in line, analysts said. If HP completes the acquisition, it would be by far the
