Background & Why To pursue the superiority of Science and Technological scientific journals in Korea. To inform about the excellence of Korean scientific journals, internationally .  To expand global usage and citation from the SCI(E) journals. To share, by cooperation, in development through participation in the global distribution system.  2

The shared cooperation with three following groups is essential.  ,[object Object],- i.e. Societies and Publishers.  ,[object Object]
 i.e. KISTI, JST, KoreaMed, Publishers and Domestic  and Foreign Search Engines ,[object Object],- i.e. CrossRef The parties concerned 5
Methodology : Producer Securing of the highest quality, in the format of a scientific journal and content, is needed.  Besides the effort of each society, the operation of the spontaneous quality control council, which has an objective evaluation standard, is required. There should be a settlement between:  ,[object Object]
co-transcription of Korean and English meta dataIf possible, it is desirable that the publication is processed with XML.  If that is difficult, the PDF electronic full-text has to be definitely secured.  the operation of the response page is a compulsory condition of the DOI deposition. ,[object Object],6
Methodology : Aggregator Construction English site such as Science Links Japan and KoreaScience. Implementation the distribution service like the DOI system for korean academic information.  ,[object Object]

Activities : Assignment of DOI Each DOI assignment is given a prefix and a suffix number by KISTI or joining society.  The prefix is assigned in CrossRef by the request of KISTI when a society adds.  The suffix is assigned by the publishers at their discretion. KISTI use its own rule to assign the suffix.  e.g. 10.xxxx/ jkfn.2009.38.5.529 16
Activities : CrossRef deposit KISTI  simultaneously provides  PDF electronic full-text for KISTI and the society scientific journal publications (system upload).  The CrossRef – standard is data construction with regard to a references and articles.  Creation of the XML for the CrossRef deposition through the system.  Each XML Society  makes depositions through the CrossRef home page.  The result of the depositions are monitored by registered e-mails.  17

Activities : Response page After depositing the DOI ,the response pages should be completed within 18 months.  KoreaScience is constructed by the ongoing response page directed towards the sponsoring societies of KISTI and its services. 20

Results in 2009 DOIs on Academic Papers deposited and assigned to main participating societies(institutes) from 2007 to 2009.   Signed up Cited-by-linking on CrossRef and applied to the service, Korea Society Community of Science and Technology to grasp the citation present condition of the DOI deposit papers.  Embodied and offered MR (Multiple Resolution) that is accessible to the response page of the scientific journal as well as the representative response page-in KoreaScience of the KISTI deposit DOI paper.  KISTI accepted the request from IBC, Korean Society for Bioinformatics and then KISTI implemented MR using the interim page for the first time. 29
Results in 2009 "KISTI DOI Business Fair" was held for participating societies by co-operating with the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Society. (September, 7th.2009)  Assigned DOIs and began the Deposit Business for 4 English written journals (The Korean Society of Phycology, the Korean Society of Mycology, the Korean Institute of Electrical and Electronic Material Engineers and Korean Society of Environmental Engineering) among a total of 6 types in the international paper business by co-operating with the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Society.  In order to apply the DOI assignment as the major criteria of the domestic scientific journal evaluation, KISTI cooperated with the Korean Association of Medical Journal Editor, National Research Foundation of Korea, and etc.   30
