An updated version of Facebook's Newsfeed that does away with the two-tabbed interface we’ve been seeing for the past two years now. Before, you’d have to click between ‘Top Stories’ and ‘Most Recent’ . Before, these tabs would update you with the most recent posts even if you had not been on Facebook in a month.

4. Introducing Facebook’Newsfeed
s
Just before the f8 developer
conference, Facebook rolled out an
updated version of News Feed that does
away with the two-tabbed interface
we‟ve been seeing for the past two years
now. Before, you‟d have to click
between „Top Stories‟ and „Most Recent‟
. Before, these tabs would update you
with the most recent posts even if you
had not been on Facebook in a month.
Facebook is getting smarter.
5. Introducing Facebook’Newsfeed
s
Facebook now merges both types of content
into the same feed, intelligently determining
how much screen real estate to allocate to
your „Top Stories‟ based on how recently
you‟ve logged into the site. If you‟re
checking Facebook ten times a day at
work, then most of the items in your feed
will be recent; if you‟re logging in for the
first time in the few days, Facebook will try
to give you an overview of the most
important things your friends have shared.
6. Introducing Facebook’Newsfeed
s
These important stories will be
denoted with a small blue triangle in
the corner, and you can manually tell
Facebook if it missed an important
story, or if you don‟t care for one of
the items it deemed important.
Facebook has also increased the size of photo thumbnails in your feed, which
makes them nicer to look at (and more inviting to click on).
Previously the News Feed items defaulted to chronological order. That view is still
available, but below the handful of Top Stories postings.
7. Introducing Facebook’Newsfeed
s
Q: How does Facebook determine what to show in the
“new” newsfeed?
Facebook Answer: "We determine whether something
is a top story based on lots of factors, including your
relationship to the person who posted the story, how
many comments and likes it got, what type of story it
is, etc. For example, a friend's status update that
might not normally be a top story may become a top
story after many other friends comment on it.”
8. Introducing Facebook’Newsfeed
s
Q: I can no longer view page updates in my newsfeed. How do I
add pages I like into my Newsfeed?
Answer: Technically, the page updates are still there in your news
feed, just not as easily spotted comparing to before. Since
Facebook has their very own algorithm in deciding which updates
appear in our news feed based on our recent activities and how
popular is the post/page according to our interests. Even so, we
still might miss out a whole lot more information from the pages
we love even Facebook thinks they had it all sorted out for us.
Solution – use „Lists‟ to organize what you wish to see in your
news feed.
9. Adding Pages to Your Lists
Step 1 - On your homepage, in the
sidebar, locate „Lists‟ mouse over to
see „More‟.
Step 2 - At the upper section of
„Lists‟, look for „Create a List‟ button
to bring up a pop-up menu. Name
your list and click „Create List‟.
10. Adding Pages to Your Lists
Step 3 - Once your list is created, you can select Pages (instead
of „Friends‟) to your list: look for „Manage List‟ at your upper
right corner. In the dropdown menu, select „Add/Remove
Friends‟.
Another pop up box will appear and at its upper left
corner, select „Pages‟ in the dropdown menu – all pages you
liked are displayed in alphabetical order. Start selecting the
pages to be included in your list.
Now you can manage your list by deciding the type of updates
you wish to see in your Page news feed.
Hint – Create several lists for Pages You Like instead of just one!
11. Summary
The world's most popular social-media
site, has a track record of making changes
and tweaks with little or no advance warning
to its 750 million users. The recent changes
have drawn a wave of complaints as people
took to social networks (including Facebook)
to express their annoyance, many
complaining about the clutter and confusion
of all the extra feeds. Others were annoyed
by the sudden change. The hashtag
#NewFacebook is among the top trending
topics on Twitter, and the responses have
been fairly negative.
12. Summary
At first glance, Facebook‟s
Ticker, Smart Lists, NewsFeed, and
the new Profile page are very over
whelming. Many people are not
giving these features a chance but if
you take the time to go through
them one by one you will catch on.
