The pickling line prepares coils for cold rolling by passing them through a scale breaker, acid tank, wash stations, and applying a pickling oil coating. The coils are then sent to the cold rolling mill.
In the cold rolling mill, coils are fed through multiple passes between work rolls and back-up rolls to reduce them to the required gauge. Emulsion is sprayed between the rolls and coils for lubrication and removed through an underground filtering system before being stored in clean and dirty tanks. After reaching the required gauge, the coils are strapped and sent to annealing.
2. •Pickling line : In the pickling line the coils are fed through a feeder and then passed into a pit and
then passed into a pit and then to the scale breaker which breaks the upper scale exposing the surface
of the coil. Then the coil is passed through acid tank which contains Sulphuric acid at 25%
concentration. As the coil comes out it is first washed in hot water and then in cold water and then
spray dried and the pickling oil is sprayed as it is wound at the other end. Then the coils are strapped
and sent to the cold rolling section
•Cold Rolling Mill : The coils in the cold rolling mill are fed through a feeder passed to the other side
where it is clamped to the exit coil wrapping roll and the passed through the first pass. The emulsion
valve is opened and the emulsion sprayed at high pressure in the direction in which the coils pass. As
the end of the coil approaches it is then clamped to the entry coil wrapping roll and the mill is
reversed and the coil is reduced to the required gauge depending on the load the roll can exert on the
coils. Usually the reductions would take place in 3-4 passes. The emulsion sprayed between the coils
and the rolls would come out from the side and go to the underground tank in the dirty tank which
would be filtered by paper bed filter (tramp oil) and magnetic filter (iron filings) and then sent to the
clean tank present in the cellar. After the required gauge has been reached the coils would be
strapped and sent to the annealing section . The speed of the mill would be maintained at 300 m/min.
