2. Are you asking yourself, “How can I use the math coach as
a support in my teaching of Mathematics?”
Formal Coaching is a model that supports teachers in becoming a more effective teacher. The coach
works with the classroom teacher in planning, modeling lessons, co-teaching and observing math
lessons. The focus is always on student achievement.
Areas you may want to focus on:
Setting up lessons that teach through problem solving
This could include Before During After lessons and an in-depth look at its components
Teaching using PODs
How to create SMART board lessons in math
What does assessment for learning look like? What do I do with all of my documentation?
How can I improve on my questioning, so that I guide student into independent thinking and problem solving?
How can I reach the children that „just are not getting it‟?
How can I challenge the students that need enrichment?
How do I do the above in a way that does not require a TON of planning?
Using The Power of Ten to teach numeracy and the understanding of numbers.
How can I supplement the program (Pearson/Nelson) so that I am covering 100% of the curriculum outcomes?
Improving one or more of the processes ex.: communication, connections, problem solving, reasoning and proof, representation.
