Both apps are free to useBoth provide for teacher paced or student paced interactive activitiesBoth can give teachers live on the spot instant feedback from studentsBoth provide reports of each session by email (great for keeping records)Both are capable of providing teachers with instant formative and on the fly assessment of learning objectivesBoth are capable of allowing students to give anonymous feedback
Nearpod allows you to import static powerpoint presentations and pdf presentations and add interactive features to them. It has a student monitoring feature that helps teachers keep student on task and out of twitter during sessions and it has a wide variety interactive slide types to use.Socrative’s advantage is that it can be used on all platforms, it allows free sharing of quizzes with other teachers and the use of images with quizzes. Finally, it is completely free, there are no annoying locked features ike on many other apps. INCLUDING>>>>
Nearpod, which allows for use only on iOS devices. Both are great programs but as with any apps, there are limitations. Nearpod also limits the number and size of presentations in the free version and size of videos and pictures are quite limited with the free version. The paid version is also a bit expensive to upgrade on a personal as well as at the school level (However worth it for the added space and features if teachers are willing to put the time in to create and share quality presentations.)Socrative’s limitations are in it’s relatively bland interface. Questions types are limited to Multiple Choice and Short answer and sharing of poll results requires connecting to the OHP or emailing results.
