The truth about concrete paint, and how to paint concrete. Following these steps, your concrete paint will look better and last longer - as will your concrete!

2. Concrete paint is easy to apply and looks great, but
it has a short lifespan. For interior applications, you
can get 5-10 years out of a good paint, and for
exterior applications, 1-2 years. If and when water
or moisture becomes an issue, the paint will start to
bubble, flake, and peel. Some paints, like epoxies,
will trap the water beneath the surface, causing the
concrete to crack and spall before seeing any signs
on the surface. If you plan on using a concrete
paint, whether an acrylic, latex, or epoxy, it is
important to first seal your concrete with a
penetrating sealer.

3. As mentioned on the previous slide, here are issues
often masked by concrete paint:
 Concrete Efflorescence
 Water and Moisture
 Mold
 Cracks and spalls
When and how do you know you have an issue?
Not until the paint (acrylic, latex, epoxy, silane,
siloxane) starts to bubble, flake, or peel off.

4. Before painting concrete, you want to first apply a
penetrating concrete sealer.Why? Because Foundation Armor

5.  Clean the concrete slab. Make sure it is free of
paints, sealers, stains and other chemicals that

concrete.

7. Water plus cement produces Calcium Silicate Hydrate (C-S-H) in a
process known as Hydration. C-S-H is the binding system for concrete.
Combined with the aggregate, C-S-H gives concrete its hardness and
strength.
A reactive byproduct of the Hydration process is Calcium Hydroxide.
When a Foundation Armor concrete sealer is applied to concrete, it
reacts with the existing Calcium Hydroxide to produce additional C-S-
H.This additional C-S-H is what provides the increased hardness and
densification by up to 45%, and water resistance up to 100 PSI.
