Carnaval is a festival celebrated in Spain immediately before Lent that involves parades, parties, and costumes. It has its roots in pre-Christian traditions but was banned under Franco's dictatorship. Today, some of the largest celebrations can be found in Cádiz, Tenerife, Sitges, Tarragona, and Badajoz, where people of all ages dress up, dance, and socialize during the festivities.
