Social bookmarking …is a method for Internet users to store, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of web pages on the Internet with the help of metadata, typically in the form of tags that collectively and/or collaboratively become a folksonomy. Folksonomy is also called social tagging, "the process by which many users add metadata in the form of keywords to shared content". 2
Add to Facebook Most sites will let you share content on your Facebook page Unlike social tagging this form of bookmarking is about sharing popular links with your ‘Friends’ 5
StumbleUpon More a personalised recommendation engine. Uses peer- and social filtering & networking ideas…through use of thumbs up/down Learns what you like & will suggest when you ‘stumble’ 6
Digg; Reddit More ‘social news sites’ than ‘social bookmarking’. Like StumbleUpon these social tools are closer to recommendation engines than tagging per se. 7
Why & how do I use Delicious? Better way to store & organisefavourites (which aren’t tagged) by folksonomy can view everything else tagged by everyone else serendipity annotation Can make private Can share with your network 8
Why & how do I use Delicious? Organised by tags Can be filtered Can have RSS feeds by tags, people, an individuals tags (e.g. delicious.com/tcjh007/alpsp_workshop It’s portable; it’s in the cloud 9
How might you use it too? Capturing and storing corporate business intelligence Sharing knowledge with your customers & stakeholders 17
