2. Assistive Technology:
 According to http://www.atia.org, assistive technology is
any item, piece of equipment, or product that is used to
increase, maintain, or improve the learning ability of a
student.

3. Laws
 ADA- Americans with Disabilities Act:
 Student may not be discriminated based on a disability.
 IDEA- Individual with Disabilities Education Act:
 Students with disabilities have the right to a free and
appropriate public education. This means that if the
student needs AT then it must be provided to them free of
charge.
 Assistive Technology Act of 1998:
 Funds are provided to states for the use of assistive
technology.

4. Hearing Impaired
FM Systems:
The teacher wears a microphone and the student wears
earphones. This is so the student is able to hear and
understand what the teacher is saying better.

5. Seeing Impaired
Braille Lite:
A specialized keyboard that allows a student to type notes.
It may even read the text back to the student. When hooked
up to a PC, the text can then be printed.

6. Learning Disabled
Headphones:
A student can use headphones to block out
background sound when taking a test or other
class assignment that he/she needs to be able
to concentrate on.

7. Physically Disabled
Walkers-
A student may use one so he or she is able
to move around the classroom and school.
This also allows the student to be able to
participate in activities with classmates.
