2. Panunuluyan
The meaning come in its name.
Panunuluyan means tuloy. It is held on
Christmas Eve. When St. Joseph and Virgin
Mary, stopped at 4 houses at Bethlehem.
This is a procession that begins with
statues of St. Joseph and Blessed Virgin on
floats being wheeled out of the church
courtyard at 7 in the evening.

3. Panunuluyan
Accompanied by 2 singers and musicians, they
will stop at 4 houses representing Joseph and
Mary’s inns in different houses. But, they faced
4 refusal. One sings that his house is
overflowing with guests; a couple may claim to
be too poor to take them in; another person
gives the excuse that the real owner is out;
another argues that it is unsafe to let in
strangers at night.

It is a theatrical tradition by Filipinos
sometimes in a form of singing. It
describes conflicts between Christians
and Muslims. It was used by the
Spanish to promote Christianity in the
Philippines. There are 2 types of
Komedya
1. Secular
2. Religious
ORIGIN
7. Religious Komedya is also called Komedya
de Santo centers on the life of Christ or of
any saint. It usually seen during church
celebrations. The actors move in a stylized
way, have extravagant costumes and
elaborately choreographed war scenes.
Secular Komedya-is performed at the local
fiestas. An example is Santacruzan. The
story evolves on the search for the Holy
Cross by Queen Elena and her
son, Emperor Constantino.
