INAUGURAL SECOND LINE CONFERENCE:
A Celebration of Innovation for the New Economy
Fact Sheet
• Second Line is a two-day conference bringing together an international roster of leading innovative
thinkers for a pragmatic exchange aimed at stimulating economic and social business development for
the long term.
• Second Line is part of a larger group of business events called The Work Week, taking place in New
Orleans between the two weekends of Jazz Fest. The event will take place in New Orleans, Louisiana
on Monday, May 2nd and Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011 at the New Orleans Museum of Art.
• The conference is organized into four arenas, business strategy and social innovation, with a blend of
workshops and presentations for each one. The goal is to merge a world-class leader with a local leader
for each conference component. Each will work together to design a presentation that demonstrates the
strength of their field and how New Orleans is positioned for leadership.
Program Themes:
• Disruptive Innovation
• Design and Strategy
• Sustainable Social Impact
• Film Study on Social Innovation
• Second Line will present one Social Innovator “The Declaration of Innovation” a financial grant and
a year’s in-kind marketing, strategy, and management consulting.
• As a gesture of gratitude for the global support New Orleans received after Hurricane Katrina, Second
Line will host the “The Big Thank You,” a roundtable discussion, providing international and U.S.
leaders with creative alternatives for resolving their problems.
• New Orleans, is in the midst of a renaissance fueled by a combination of locals who returned and an
influx of designers, technologists, artists, social entrepreneurs, and business professionals. Against the
backdrop of New Orleans, Second Line is an opportunity to highlight the city’s strategic minds and
their fluency in economic dialogues on local, national and international levels in tandem with world
business leaders.
• The Second Line is part of New Orleans’ traditional funeral services –– a parade that flows out of the
cemetery with upbeat music and dancing to celebrate one’s “next life.” In the same way, the Second
Line conference is to celebrate the economy’s “next life” –– one that is also socially responsible,
equitable, and sustainable.
