BR-312 HUMAN RESOURCE PRINCIPLES                                       (3 HOURS)
PURPOSE OF THE COURSE
The course is intended to equip the student with the knowledge on the principles of
human resource management and its applications in organizations
EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE
By the end of the course the student should be able to:
   1. Handle human resource as an important factor of production
   2. Explain the procedure of selecting employees
   3. Uphold importance of effective communication in business organizations
   4. Solve problems relating to motivation and morale regarding to human labour
   5. Recognize importance of maximum individual development and workers
       participation in management

   •   Organization structure and effectiveness (definition, types, factors affecting
       organization structures, organization analysis, designing organization structures),
   •   Job design (definition, factors affecting job design, techniques of job design, job
       retrenchment & enlargement & job rotation)
   •   Method & work measurement, organization effectiveness, HRM challenges.

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE
This course is meant to equip the student with knowledge of strategies used in training
   personnel in organizations.
EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of the course the student should be able to:
   1.   Distinguish between: training, development and education
   2.   Identify and discuss the benefits and importance of training
   3.   Describe the process of designing an effective training program of organizations
   4.   Discuss the types and approaches of training
   5.   Explain the considerations when selecting training methods
   6.   Discuss the process of undertaking TNA in organizations
   7.   Evaluate the impact of workforce diversity and ICT on training in organizations
   8.   Discuss the factors affecting transfer of training and strategies of enhancing training
        transfer.


COURSE CONTENT
   •    Distinction between training, development, education of human resource;
   •    Benefits of training: organizational & individual benefits, importance of training,
   •    Theory and design of training programs: Types & approaches for training,
        selection of training methods, designing training programs, Conducting Training
        Need Analysis, choosing training as a solution-factors to consider, planning for
        training
   •    Training and workforce diversity: meaning of workforce diversity, impact of
        workforce diversity on training.
   •    Evaluation and management of training: categories of evaluation, ensuring
        transfer of training, factors affecting transfer of training, enhancing transfer of
        training.
