• Minimalism began during 50’s and 70’s.
• Minimalist artist use simple geometric shapes
in repeated patterns to create art.
• In minimalism the work is stripped down to its
most fundamental form.

• Influenced by abstract expressionism.
• Shakers
• Influenced by constructivists– they used
geometric shapes in their art work
• Also influenced by Duchamp.

4. Donald Judd
• Born in late 1920 and passed away in 1994
• One of the leading minimalist
• Focuses on three main things
