CASARC is the Capital Area Sexual Assault Response Center, a joint inter-agency community effort to create a single point of prevention, response, and after care for sexual assault victims and their significant others.

- LAUREN/LEANN LAUREN – The trauma of rape extends beyond the actual incident. There are many challenges that unfold afterward – reporting to police, telling friends and family, seeking medical care, prosecution or denial of charges, emotional wounds, etc. Easy to drop off at every point of this process Rape crisis center minimizes the likelihood that the victim will drop out LEANN – broken arm heals raped pt benefits most from therapy
- LAUREN Why do we need this? Sexual assault happens in our community and has a pervasive impact on everyone. The UCR is widely acknowledged to be only a small representation of what actually is reported Even so, there were 456 reports in Ingham County for 2007 alone
- LAUREN/LEANN LAUREN - Part of the underreporting is a fear of police and hospital, fear of judgment and isolation. We need to increase the number of people who report, which will increase the number who are prosecuted. LEANN – Ask yourself if you would want to report being raped
- STEVE Who is this for? Emphasis on family members, loved ones, and friends who are all impacted by rape Talk about what it’s like to work in this field as a man
- STEVE/Leann why the Listening Ear Why is it community-based vs. hospital based? Improved health and safety Free & collaborative One-stop shopping Provides continued support
- STEVE A comprehensive community based sexual assault response will empower the change from victim to survivor instead of services all over the county there will be one place & services will be brought to her/him
- STEVE Ingham county community partners established these goals
- LAUREN Emphasis on the individual will experience improved short & long term healing We know that when survivors have access to resources it improves and strengthens the healing process. Consolidated services allow survivors to more easily access the help they need. More people can receive the medical exam, file a police report, and receive counseling. The community benefits as well.
