Michael McKenna West Hartford - Most of us depend and use computers every day of our lives. Even if we don’t sit down and pound the keys all days at work, there are small computers (also known as smart phones) in many pockets and other kinds of computers throughout our home and daily lives. Our washing machines are now equipped with computers, our microwaves have computers and now computers are even advancing into our clothing. Designer Erik De Nijs is working on “keyboard pants” that include a Bluetooth keyboard within your blue jeans. There are also new pens that come equipped with small hidden cameras so that the average person can be a super-spy like James Bond. These pens house a small HD camera, built into the pen that records and stores hours of video at a quality of 720P. Perhaps the most fascinating technological advancement has been the 3D printer. These have been used for engineering and industry, but also in the medical field. Now research is being conducted to actually print organs. If successful, this will save many patients from dying while waiting on the transplant list and will move technology from just being= prevalent in our lives to actually being placed inside our bodies! This prospect might seem crazy and kind of robotic, but it is the wave of the future. Technology, whether good or bad, is advancing at a very fast rate and will continue to infiltrate our work place, our home, and other places that we inhabit. Now Apple is working with medical professionals to create products that interact with and monitor our bodies. Right now they are working on producing wearable technology. Perhaps and “iWatch” will be out later this year. In a few years, technology won’t just be in our pockets and on our computers. Technology will be integrated into the very clothing we wear. It will monitor our heart rate, sweat production, blood pressure level, and nutrition based on wearable devices. It will also be inside some of us, helping our hearts to pump and replacing kidneys. Technology, when used for good, can help us to be healthier and more productive. The sky is the limit for where and how technology will develop next.
