- These tools cannot be used by elementary aged students. The Terms of Use on these sites either require a registration which involves entering personal information or there is a 13 or over years of age requirement. Both of these are in violation of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 ( COPPA ) which applies to the online collection of personal information by children under 13 years of age.
- This great site generates a cloud map based on text that you enter or paste into the field. The more frequently a word appears, the larger it is displayed. You can manipulate the image layout, colors, etc. There is no registration required. The only downside- you must use a screen capture utility to grab the image! The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you like. You can print them out, or save them to the Wordle gallery to share with your friends. Students should not use the Wordle gallery.
- Bubbl.us is a simple and free web application that lets you brainstorm online. It allows for text-only mind maps. No registration is required to create and export as a JPEG or PNG. Registration is required for saving the created map and embedding. Registration requires an email address but verification is not necessary. Sheets can be shared among registered users for collaboration.
- You can use Wallwisher for: personal note taking, to-do lists, party invitations, feedback collection, wishing people on occasions, like birthdays, anniversaries, anything that might need input from a lot of people You don’t need to register, however, Wallwisher will need your email address. A temporary account will be created for you using your email address so that you can come back and make changes to the wall. You can use this account for all your subsequent visits to this site. Students use their Gaggle accounts and do not use their full name if they are creating a Wall. Students can make comments to a without submitting an email address or name.
- Teachers and students can use this tool to draw collaboratively, label pictures collaboratively, or plan and organize collaboratively, in real-time. The dabbleboard itself is capable of being embedded on any website. Students cannot see shared drawings unless they are logged in. Drawings can be saved by using the Download to Computer tool and renamed using the .jpg extension. Students use Gaggle email accounts to login but it is highly recommended that students do not create accounts.

Notes and tags can be added to each photo, and viewers can leave comments, notes and tags as well. Tags are searchable so it’s easier to find related photos later. Photos are secure and private. The implication for education is that teachers can post digital photos and use them as illustrations for writing.
