Economic Importance of OHV Recreation in Arizona2002, Arizona State University conducted a yearlong economic study of recreational off-highway vehicle use in Arizona Creates a statewide economic impact of $4.25 billion (multiplier effect*) Contributes $3.1 billion to local economies through OHV-related retail sales Adds $187 million to annual state tax revenues Provides $1.1 billion in household income (salaries/wages) for AZ residents Supports 36,951 full-time and part-time jobs in Arizona
Wyoming State Trails - 2006 “A survey and Economic Assessment of off-road vehicle use in Wyoming" Residents reported spending an average of $27.04 per day, Non-residents reported spending an average of $31.70 per person per day on trips to Wyoming and $243.03 annually in the state of Wyoming (in addition to trip expenses). The result is an estimated $149.1 million in total trip spending by both registered and non-registered resident ORV users. Based on the projected number of ORVs in the state, residents spent over $189 million on ORVs and related expenses in 2006.
Wyoming State Trails - 2006 “A survey and Economic Assessment of off-road vehicle use in Wyoming" The results show that an estimated 127 new jobs and an additional $3.3 million in earnings are contributed to the Wyoming economy by registered non-resident ORV users. If the same ratio of resident registered users to total users as found in the telephone survey is applied to non-residents, then the jobs and earnings estimate would increase to 679 jobs and over $17.6 million in earnings.
Paiute Trail UtahEconomics 60,000 riders annually – 75% from outside area Average rider spends $110 a day to ride Brings $4,950,000 annually into local economy On average - $1 spent 4 times before it leaves the community which boosts the local economy by $20,000,000 Information from a 2003 PowerPoint
BENEFITSofPLANNEDATVTRAILS
 RANDOM ATV TRAILS ,[object Object]
Miles “out there” do not equate to value
Generate a lot of random riding as a result of visitor confusion about where to go
Confused / frustrated riders make less than desirable route choices,[object Object]
Signing makes it easy to find and follow the route

  1. Use of All Terrain Vehicles (ATV’s) is allowed on designated open roads. These roads are available to all motorized vehicles during non-winter months. Snowmobilers may enjoy good winter conditions on numerous trails on the mountain from November 26 to March 15. Trails are restricted in order to discourage encroachment onto winter ranges for deer and elk. However, there is approximately 300 miles of groomed trails in the area, many of which are on Craig Mountain WMA.Use of All Terrain Vehicles (ATV’s) is allowed on designated open roads. Trails are restricted in order to discourage encroachment onto winter ranges for deer and elk. However, there is approximately 300 miles of groomed trails in the area, many of which are on Craig Mountain WMA. The Red Bird Canyon addition to Craig Mtn OPENED access to ATV w/seasonal restrictions that did not have public access earlier. During some times of the year, ANDRUS WMA roads are open ONLY to ATV use and provide a controlled yet high quality outdoor opportunity. Our WMA’s are managed to provide a variety of outdoor experiences including motorized and non-motorized opportunities.Activities include hunting, fishing, wildlife viewing, hiking, camping, horse trail riding, OHV rides, Sunday afternoon picnics.
  2. Hunt Planner has a query feature that allows you to tailor your hunting trip. From the query you choose what type of hunting you are interested in. I chose to look at all big game general hunting opportunities and then refined my search to Unit 29 in the Salmon Region. From the list of available hunts, you can click on the unit link and all sorts of information is at your fingertips including season dates, bag limits, all the applicable rules and regulations, prior season harvest statistics, public access information, links to land manager web pages, Access Yes! properties, land use/land cover information, links to weather, local area Lodging, Camping and services, regional airports, and the IDFG interactive Map Center, where you can build a customized map, save and print for your planned hunt.
