1. The Dos and Dont’s of Low Fiber Diet

When you say low fiber diet, you actually mean foods having low residue content. Fiber and
waste products found in your GI tract are the residues in your body. These then become stool or
what is commonly known as bowel movement (BM).
Low Fiber Diet as A Remedy
Such diet is given or advised when you are experiencing / undergoing:
Diarrhea or cramping
Bowel movement problems typically in the digestion of certain foods
Surgery: while waiting for your bowel to return to normal
Because low fiber diet affects your bowel movement in some ways making it smaller, extra
water should go along with it for regular bowel movement or a stool softener might be of use.
2. When You are in Low Fiber Diet
Do Eat The Following Do Not Eat
Milk or Dairy products
Cheese Milk or dairy products that contains have
Cottage additional fruits and vegetables, seeds and nuts
Milk
Pudding
Yogurt
Creamy soup or 1.5 ounces of hard
cheese
A total of 2 cups of smooth milk can be
consumed daily
Grains and Breads
White breads Brown rice
Dry cereals white pasta Crackers and cereals
Crackers Whole-grain breads
Servings should not go over half a gram Whole-wheat pasta
of fiber
Vegetables
Raw Vegetables: If vegetables are not on the list
Raw Vegetables can as well be eaten
Cucumbers cooked
Lettuce Vegetables and sauces containing seeds
Onions Popcorn
Zucchini
Cooked Vegetables (Must be Well-cooked) and
Canned Vegetable (without seeds):
Asparagus
Beets
Carrots
Eggplant
Green beans
Potatoes, without skin
Pumpkin
Spinach
3. Wax beans
Yellow squash (without seeds)
What you need to keep in mind when in a low fiber diet as mentioned earlier in this post is the
importance of liquids. Because as expected low fiber diet results to small or fewer bowel
movements, extra fluids are needed to avoid any stomach problems such as constipation which is
commonly a side effect.
