Tia Maletta has decided on her target audience, music genre, and research for her music magazine. Her target audience is male and female teenagers to middle aged people between ages 15-21. She chose this age range because she is 16 and wants her magazine to appeal to people her own age. She will focus the magazine on popular music genres like house, pop, R&B, drum and bass based on a survey that showed these genres are most interesting to her target demographic. Tia researched other successful music magazines, conducted a survey monkey questionnaire to identify target interests, and will take quality photos to feature an artist's full personality for readers.
2. Who is your target audience and
why?
• A target audience or target group is the primary group of people that a
product is aimed at.
• A target audience can be defined by age group, gender, marital status etc.
Examples of such audiences would be teenagers, females, single people
etc.
• Discovering the appropriate target market for a product is one of the most
important stages involved with market research. Without knowing the
target audience selling a product can become difficult and very expensive.
• I have decided my target audience is going to be both male and females
teenagers to middle aged people. Age range from 15-21 years old.
• I have decided that my target audience is going to be male and females
aged 15-21 years old as I am 16 years old so it would be easier to base my
magazine for these ages of people as I able to find out easily what my
target audience want in order for my magazine to be successful.
3. What music genre and why?
A music genre is categories in which identifies different types of music as belonging to that type of music.
Here is a list of music genres to get a feel for the different types of music genres that exist…
Dubstep (Skream & Benga, Rusko, Flux Pavilion)
House (Avicii, Benny Benassian, deadmau5)
R&B (Jason Derulo, Beyonce, Macklemore)
Hip-Hop (Chris Brown, Wiz Khalifa, Nicki Minaj)
Rap (Kanye West, Jay Z, Eminem)
Dance (Daft Punk, Fatman Scoop, Mixhell)
Country (Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carter Family)
Drum and Bass (Chase & Status, Netsky, Sub Focus)
I am going to focus my magazine on artists mainly house music, pop music, drum and bass and R&B music
I have decided this from when I got people to complete my questionnaire on survey monkey I found out that people
are most interested in house music, then pop music, then joint with drum and bass and R&B, then dubstep, then hip-
hop, then lastly the three genres joint together dance, jazz and rock. Therefore I should base my magazine on the
genres of music that are most popular such as house, pop, R&B, then dubstep, then hip-hop, then lastly the three
genres joint together dance, jazz and rock.
4. What research have you done to provide
evidence of your decision?
• The research I have done to provide evidence for my decision is by looking at
different music magazines that are successful at the moment such as NME,
Billboard and Q.
• I then made a questionnaire on survey monkey where I was able to find out what
type of people would be interested in my music magazine and the types of genres
of music they are interested in.
• From this questionnaire I came to the conclusion that mainly teenagers to middle
aged adults would be purchasing my magazine who are interested in house music,
pop music, drum and bass and R&B music.
• To take my images for my magazine I am going to use a digital compact camera so
my images will come out in a good quality so then I able to edit them on
Photoshop if needed.
• For my photo shoot I am going to take pictures of Lydia Hughes, she will be
wearing a leather jacket, jeans, trainers with natural makeup with red lipstick.
• From these images, I would like my target audience to see her full personality and
appearance as from all the research I have carried out the images used on
magazines the readers are able to tell what that artist is like.
