Facebook recently introduced Author Tags, a new feature that helps publishers grow their audience and helpsFacebook’s readership follow an author found via the platform. This author tag on Facebook is a web development tool that connects the story’s byline in the preview with the Follow button, which the reader sees directly on their News Feed.
Due to the indispensable place of Facebook in 21st century communications dynamics, journalists and authors have found their way onto this platform. Aside from the audience being able to track the content of the writer, this newly implemented feature will also help connect writers with their readers for a more meaningful discourse, and interactions like Q&A sessions.

Due to the indispensable place of
Facebook in 21st

communications dynamics, journalists
and authors have found their way onto
this platform. Aside from the audience
being able to track the content of the

will also help connect writers with their
readers for a more meaningful
discourse, and interactions like Q&A
sessions.
A Wider Audience
The new feature only becomes apparent after a reader clicks through the
web article posted on Facebook. When the user returns to their News
Feed, a Follow button appears below the story’s preview. The said button
only appears for writers with Facebook profiles, but for those with
Facebook Pages, the Like button appears instead.
Once the user or the reader clicks through
these links, they will receive updates from
the journalist’s profile or the writer’s page.
This new implementation makes it easier for
Facebook users to follow their favorite
journalists or read more content by writers
they like. In this day of everything going
digital, this feature is a major step to
audience development for writers and
journalists.
3. A Stronger Connection
The Author Tag is quite easy to implement. It only takes simple additional
line of code in the page’s header tag to have the new feature implemented
in the tag site-wide. Writers and journalists who maintain a Facebook
Profile will need to tick the Follow button on their profile, but those with
Pages need not do so.
Every day, 1 billion people log on to Facebook. Majority of these users
want to discover what’s going on in the world. This new author tag makes
it easier for these billions of users to track the news and articles published
by their choice of journalists and writers. Through the Internet, readers
can strengthen their connection with the stories of the world.
