Treating adhd without medication
1. Treating ADHD Without Medication
There are multiple ways to treat ADHD. Most boys with ADHD are treated with
medication, but that may not always work. Some studies have shown that treating boys
with a more natural approach can work just as well.
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, about 10 percent of school age
children have ADHD. These children usually have difficulty paying attention or
concentrating. They cannot follow directions and can become bored or frustrated with
tasks. They move constantly and are impulsive; they do not stop and think before they
act. Most children have short attention spans, but this behavior is more severe in those
with ADHD.
Some alternative and natural treatments boarding schools practice have helped ADHD
children cope without medication.
A study done 1998 showed that children with ADHD have a hard time falling asleep.
Research from this study also indicated these children struggle to sleep soundly, often
finding it difficult to get up the next morning. The study suggested a link between
relaxation and drinking herbal teas with ingredients like chamomile, spearmint and
lemongrass. Used at bedtime, these teas have helped ADHD children get a better night’s
sleep and wake up ready to go in the morning.
