  12. This Canadian study helped to show that our students are not engaged at the high school level and we need to change what we are doing to keep them engaged if we wanted more of them to meet with success

  14. The culture we are creating is a need to change teacher practice to increase engagement and this will result in increased achievement

  18. Examples of how the culture change impacted all areas of our Board including the design of our new schools and the transition of our libraries

  20. Learning takes place outside of classrooms as well as in them – new school design includes teaching pods
  21. Learning commons is an example of system transition that differs from site to site but focuses on the interactions of text and media
  22. Move to Google Apps to focus on collaboration and cloud access and storage has had a major impact on collaboration and networking
  23. No longer trying to scale innovation and replicate practices across 82 schools but instead we are trying to scale our networks so that they can innovate based on their unique challenges and needs Ex. BlackBoard, D2L, Edmodo, Google Sites … all have been effective LMS in different situations across our Board

Open Educational Resources Impact of Common Core CK12, LearnZillion, GooruLearning.org Mobile Learning BYOD, student access to resources on SmartPhones, and other devices, supporting 2 or 3 devices on network - Ministry Desire 2 Learn license, Moodle, BlackBoard Game Based Learning - acceptance of games - development (TechUme) - Grade 12 careers - Digital Literacy - redefining literacy and media literacy - Responsible coduct and digital citizenship Blended Learning - no shortage of resources - personalized learning - focus on assessment loop and impact of technology to provide verbal and audio feedback
  29. This instructional strategy may work for some students – but, does it engage all learners?
  30. Across Canada there have been complaints of the math instruction and International Pisa results
  31. Challenges still exist even with new teaching environments, example of math
  32. Personalized learning – different resources, differentiated tasks and differentiated assessment Competency based – slow in Ontario – how do we eliminate the grade based system and groupings of students based on an arbitrary cohort date of birth? Move to video based instruction and multimedia and multimodal, and not just text
  33. As students leave our HS environment, they need to ensure smooth transitions in terms of instructional practice and access to digital resources
