Lesson Plan Title: Creating a Digital Storybook
Concept / Topic To Teach: Technology/Creating a multimedia presentation.
Standards Addressed:
NS.AASL.1.1.2 - Use prior and background knowledge as context for new learning
NS.AASL.2.1.3 - Use strategies to draw conclusions from information and apply knowledge
to curricular areas real world situations and further investigations
NS.AASL.3.1.4 - Use technology and other information tools to organize and display

NS.AASL.3.1.6 - Use information and technology ethically and responsibly
NS.AASL.1.1.6 - Read view and listen for information presented in any format e g textual
visual media digital in order to make inferences and gather meaning
NS.AASL.1.2.3 - Demonstrate creativity by using multiple resources and formats
General Goal(s): Students will be able to create a digital story.
Specific Objectives: Students will be able to create a digital story based on a school
tour or activity by using PowerPoint and iMovie.
Required Materials: Digital camera, computer, PowerPoint, iMovie, Internet.
Anticipatory Set : Students will view storyboard and digital story (A Virtual Tour of the
Media Center) created by Media Specialist
Procedures:
-Students will choose from the following topics: a school activity or school-based tour
-Students will discuss topic with a partner. Partners will give feedback to ensure that
topic has a beginning, middle and end.
-Students will use set of digital cameras to take photographs. (Students will not take or
include photos of themselves or other children in presentation).
-Media Specialist will discuss previous knowledge of how to create an actual PowerPoint
presentation. Students may also view Powerpoint tutorial
-Students will create a storyboard using PowerPoint. The storyboard will consist of at
least 10 slides. Each slide will contain at least one sentence and one photo.
-Students will view a tutorial of how to convert PowerPoint to iMovie at PowerPoint-to-
iMovie
-Students will convert slides into an iMovie
-Students will share iMovie with class.
Plan For Independent Practice:
Students will take photographs for presentation.
Students will complete at least10 slides describing the activity using Powerpoint. Each
slide must contain a photo and text.
2. Closure (Reflect Anticipatory Set):Students present their digital story to the class.
- Assessment Based On Objectives :Teacher observation of individual digital story
based on criteria.
- Adaptations (For Students With Learning Disabilities): Students will create 5-7 slides
with text or audio depending on their learning styles and abilities.
- Extensions (For Gifted Students): Students will create more than 10 slides with each
slide containing text and photos. Students may also include audio to their presentation.
Note: Students will work at there own pace. Students will be given time to work on
project throughout the quarter during Library/Media and Technology class. Classroom
teachers will also assist students during Library/Media non-prep time.
