A couple of days back, Twitter offered its shares to the general public for the first time. By the end of the proceedings, the shares were valued at $31 billion, almost neck and neck with those of Yahoo and Kraft Foods. Twitter, which would probably have desired that the public did not have unreasonably high expectations from its shares, would have ceased being circumspect post the phenomenal success that the release of its IPO met with.

Twitter's IPO Release Meets With Phenomenal Response
Now that the share value of Twitter has simply skyrocketed, the company will be glad
that it has not done a Facebook. While Facebook released its IPO on NASDAQ 18
months back, Twitter preferred to trade on the New York Stock Exchange. It did not take
long before the value of TWTR, the symbol used by Twitter for its shares, reached
$50.09 in the initial hours itself. One gentleman remarked that the immediate spike in
price indicated that the demand for the shares exceeded its supply.
Instead of letting its executives ring the opening bell of the NYSE, Twitter allowed three
individuals from different walks of life share the privilege amongst themselves. There
was an actor by the name of Patrick Stewart, a nine-year old girl called Vivienne Harr

who did her bit for bringing child slavery to an end by running a lemonade stand for a
year, and a woman named Cheryl Fiandaca, who hailed from the Boston Police
Department.
So, is the release of Twitter's IPO really as hunky-dory as it seems to be? Did it really
come at a fair price? That the value of Twitter's shares spurted by 73% on the very first
day could easily be interpreted as a disturbing phenomenon. While the company itself
could have raked in a lot of money, it let a select few reap the profits.
Lastly, did Twitter choose an opportune time for releasing its IPO? Its revenue may be
peaking but at the same time, the company is incurring losses as well. Of late, there
hasn't been a significant rise in the number of Twitter users. The decision does not
seem ill-timed as the stock market presently is witnessing a spate of IPO releases. A
development worth mentioning pertains to the shares of Dow Jones that recently closed
at an all-time high.
Computer knowledge is now of paramount importance in the professional world.
However, the manner in which computer education is currently being imparted to
children in schools leaves room for a lot of improvement. The mismatch can be
explained through an interesting analogy. Learning computer skills is in no way similar
to learning to drive a car. In order to become an able driver, you don't really have to
know how a car functions. However, you must know how a computer works if you are to
tap into its immense potential. A car has limited use whereas there is simply no end to
the functions performed by a PC.
To put it straight, the computer science lessons that children receive from an early age
should benefit them in the long run. Once they have been apprised of the key concepts
pertaining to computer education, the children studying in schools must be taught to
tackle risks and perform important tasks by being both heuristic and recursive.
Agreed, a lot of schools today take the trouble of familiarizing their students with basic
Microsoft applications like Word, PowerPoint and Excel. However, it is the nitty-gritty
that school-goers need to delve into. An interest in the functioning of the human body
has prompted many a student to study medicine and become a doctor. So, one can
understand what a similar kind of interest in programming and coding can lead to.

As far as teaching students the basic concepts of computing is concerned, there are
some very interesting topics viz. algorithms, cryptography, machine intelligence, search
etc. that could easily pique the curiosity of a young child. For instance, it is through
cryptography that students will learn how secretive data is protected on the Internet.
Similarly, machine intelligence will let them know how top-notch websites like Amazon
and Google succeed in figuring out the preferences of computer users.

Presently, the world is rife with end users who are simply content to make use of the
offerings that come their way from a select few. However, is that what we want?
Technology has been instrumental in changing our lives for the better. How about
goading everyone to just jump on the bandwagon and bring about a revolution?
