Personality Theories Genetic, social, and individual factors combine to create the total personality; if we are to understand the human condition, we need to think about this complex entity. People have been wondering about themselves for thousands of years, and their ideas have been many and varied. Among modern theories, the ones that are have traditionally been most generally accepted and widely used as a basis for human service practice are the psychoanalytic theory, the learning theory, and the humanistic holistic theories. More recently, feminist theories are being more commonly used as well. Each has influenced and been influenced by the others, and all are influencing those now engaged in ongoing thinking about this age-old enigma—the human being. Current practice models reflect these basic theories. Workers need to be knowledgeable about them and able to evaluate and make use of their constructs. Work with people will reflect the worker’s conception of the nature of the personality, how it develops, and the impact of outside forces—individuals and groups—on that development. Out of such theories come processes for enabling desired change to take place. Workers use their concepts in understanding themselves as well as others and in working with others, again as individuals, in groups, or in larger societies. Psychoanalytic Theory Sigmund Freud (Table 3.2), the “father of psychoanalysis,” was one of the giants who, in words supposedly first used to describe Charles Darwin, “saw what all men saw and thought what no man thought.” Although Freud is now criticized for being too much of a determinist in his belief that all behavior is caused by instinctual drives of sex and aggression, for his sexist attitudes, and for using unscientific methods of gathering data, his impact on the development of personality theories has been tremendous. His terminology—namely conscious, unconscious, id, superego, ego, defense mechanisms—are all part of modern language and are defined as follows (Walrond-Skinner, 1986): Conscious The part of the psyche that is open to immediate awareness. Unconscious hat region of the mind that remains unavailable to a person until it emerges into consciousness through events such as dreams and free associations. Id he major portion of the unconscious; strives only to bring about the satisfaction of a person’s instinctual needs. Ego A part of the personality whose task is to mediate the conflicting demands of the superego, the id, and external reality. he ego has a range of functions including observation, reality testing, rational thought, and perception. Levine, Joanne. Working with People: The Helping Process (Page 48). Pearson Education. Kindle Edition. Table 3.2 Highlights of Psychoanalytic Theory and Psychoanalysis: Sigmund Freud (1856–1939) •Theory is based on the understanding that one’s mental life is made up of both the conscious and the unconscious • Belief in a threefold (id, ego, superego) mental ap.

Running Head: LIFE SPAN PARENTING PROJECT 1 LIFE SPAN PARENTING PROJECT 2 Student's name: Emmanuel Domenech Professor's name: Dr. Suzi Hundemer Class: BEHS 343 Topic: Chapter 2: Theoretical Perspectives on Parenting (trait theory) Chapter 3: Approaches to parenting research(Group counseling and psychotherapy with children and adolescents) Institution: University of Maryland University College Date: June 9, 2019 Life Span Parenting Project Children ought to be evaluated when it comes to their entire environment with the inclusion of whatever negative or positive parental influences that could exist, this is according to Group counseling and psychotherapy with children and adolescents. I have learned that one of the most refreshing impacts concerning parents is because mainly we work with their kids who are reaching the adolescent stage in regions of their personal/social, academic success, career development, and realm. Their work comprises of working in intervention and prevention (Denno et al., 2015). Counselors help students like who undergo rough times, for instance, in adolescent and help them in enlightening their skills of resilience to be equipped better in case of hitting tough times in the future. The adolescent stage is characterized by uneven and dramatic integration of changes that are developmental into the day to day lives of young persons. Simultaneously, teenagers experience growing independence from their families, mood swings, and at times, rapidly increasing sexuality. The tasks of talking to them usually start within the units of the family. Often, as guardians, we tend to view our teens as fragile thus visit our pediatricians or doctors since we see them as people whom to seek advice from regarding both behavioral and physiologic issues (Shechtman, 2017). The ongoing relationship with the pediatrician and the family gives for enough prospects to offer support and guidance that is anticipated as our kids get into and move through the stage of adolescence. Determinants of Parenting As we all know, the parent-child relationship has a massive influence on most aspects of the development of a child. When behaviors, parenting skills, and optimal capabilities have a positive effect on the school achievement or self-esteem of a child, there is positive behavior and development on the kids. Fig: Family-Based Therapy Some other treatment programs that can be used to work in families include family therapy, family-centered therapy, or family-based therapy. These programs change from one to the other. These are effective when it comes to family counseling and help in coming to terms with the stage or any disorder that could arise in the process. As far as I am concerned, therapy is vital when looking at parenting approaches. This is because when an individual is a child, through adolescent to when they mature to being adults, they require guideline on being better per.

Self-Determination Theory and the Facilitation of Intrinsic Motivation, Social Development, and Well-Being Richard M. Ryan and Edward L. Deci University o f Rochester Human beings can be proactive and engaged or, alterna- tively, passive and alienated, largely as a function o f the social conditions in which they develop and function. Ac- cordingly, research guided by self-determination t h e o ~ has focused on the social-contextual conditions that facil- itate versus forestall the natural processes of self-motiva- tion and healthy psychological development. Specifically, factors have been examined that enhance versus undermine intrinsic motivation, self-regulation, and well-being. The findings have led to the postulate of three innate psycho- logical needs--competence, autonomy, and relatedness-- which when satisfied yield enhanced self-motivation and mental health and when thwarted lead to diminished mo- tivation and well-being. Also considered is the significance of these psychological needs and processes within domains such as health care, education, work, sport, religion, and psychotherapy. T he fullest representations o f humanity show people to be curious, vital, and self-motivated. At their best, they are agentic and inspired, striving to learn; ex- tend themselves; master new skills; and apply their talents responsibly. That most people show considerable effort, agency, and commitment in their lives appears, in fact, to be more normative than exceptional, suggesting some very positive and persistent features o f human nature. Yet, it is also clear that the human spirit can be diminished or crushed and that individuals sometimes re- ject growth and responsibility. Regardless of social strata or cultural origin, examples o f both children and adults who are apathetic, alienated, and irresponsible are abun- dant. Such non-optimal human functioning can be observed not only in our psychological clinics but also among the millions who, for hours a day, sit passively before their televisions, stare blankly from the back o f their classrooms, or wait listlessly for the weekend as they go about their jobs. The persistent, proactive, and positive tendencies o f human nature are clearly not invariantly apparent. The fact that human nature, phenotypically expressed, can be either active or passive, constructive or indolent, suggests more than mere dispositional differences and is a function of more than just biological endowments. It also bespeaks a wide range of reactions to social environments that is worthy o f our most intense scientific investigation. Specifically, social contexts catalyze both within- and be- tween-person differences in motivation and personal growth, resulting in people being more self-motivated, energized, and integrated in some situations, domains, and cultures than in others. Research on the conditions that foster versus undermine positive human potenti.

ViktorCap/iStock/Thinkstock Learning Objectives After reading this chapter, you should be able to: • Describe the basic elements of object-relations theory, and describe the process of form- ing internalized objects and how they shape personality. • Explain how attachment theory expanded our understanding of how personality develops. • Discuss the main features of Kohut’s self psy- chology and how it adds to our understand- ing of narcissism. • Explain Winnicott’s concept of the good- enough mother and why he thought infants could not be studied by themselves. • Explain the purpose of defenses and what makes them functional or pathological. • Describe Erickson’s contributions to identity development and personality theory. • Explain how normal personality development is undermined by narcissism, according to the contemporary psychodynamic approach. Contemporary Psychodynamic Models of Personality 3 Chapter Outline Introduction 3.1 Early Development of Contemporary Psychodynamic Approaches: Object Relations • Primacy of Attachment • Attachment in Nonhuman Species • The Good-Enough Mother • The Experience of Emptiness • Psychoneurosis and Normal Development 3.2 Early Development of Contemporary Psychodynamic Approaches: Self Psychology • Mirroring • Identity Development • The Significance of Identity and Identity Crisis • Development of Narcissism • Core Effects of Narcissism: Shame and Rage • Use Malan’s triangle of conflict to describe how emotion-anxiety-defenses depict intrapsychic processes. • Use Malan’s triangle of persons to describe how patterns from our past attachments are reenacted in our current relationships. • Know the assessment strategies and tools for contemporary psychodynamic models. There are now companies you can hire to provide you with the same paparazzi experience lavished upon Hollywood celebrities; you can actually be a “celebrity for a day” and have throngs of media taking photos of you as you go out ( http://www.celeb4aday.com/Home.html). The most popular TV shows are reality shows that essentially detail and expose our private lives. There are even companies that will help you develop a more effective personal Face- book page to help boost your personal image and appear more popular to others. Although some self-love and attention seeking can be normal and even healthy, in more extreme manifestations (especially when combined with grandiosity and selfishness) it is neither healthy nor normal and would be labeled as narcissism. In psychodynamic terms, narcissism is a personality disorder characterized by extreme, pathological self-love. In their 2001 book, The Narcissism Epidemic, psychologists Jean M. Twenge and W. Keith Campbell discuss how narcissism in American culture i ...

Wizards are very useful for creating a good user experience. In all businesses, interactive sessions are most beneficial. To improve the user experience, wizards in Odoo provide an interactive session. For creating wizards, we can use transient models or abstract models. This gives features of a model class except the data storing. Transient and abstract models have permanent database persistence. For them, database tables are made, and the records in such tables are kept until they are specifically erased.
