Good Stuff Happens in 1:1 Meetings: Why you need them and how to do them well
Real time translation gets better with google
1. In the history of anything that involves the internet,
whatever any company tries to do, Google outdoes
them all! Some time back in 2014, Skype announced
that it will be offering a real-time translation tool
specifically for users, who speak English and Spanish.
Now in 2015, Goggle has announced that it will offer
real-time translation for ninety languages.
2. It all started when Microsoft announced this exciting development
late last year for Skype. It is considered as a big move for Skype to
enter the world of instant translation of foreign languages. In
conjunction with that, Microsoft launched a test version of the app
titled Skype Translator. This app decodes conversations happening in
Spanish and English. Microsoft has said that this development for
Skype has been in the works for more than ten years.
3. Google has announced that soon it will offer real-time translation.
Trust Google to take the bar higher by announcing that the real-time
translation will be available for ninety languages. This may not seem
like a huge task to Google, as it has already introduced this feature on
its translation app for smart phones. Again this feature is not
available for all languages, but only for the popular language pairs.
Barging into the translation world is not recent for Google. The
company has been polishing up its translation tools for years now.
Certainly, the ability to offer real-time translation for ninety
languages is a big deal, but users have probably known that it was
coming all along. In Google’s own browser, Chrome, users can view
foreign languages websites in English, thanks to the presence of
Google’s automatic translation tools.
4. Over the years Google Translate has helped users in many big ways.
It has given users the chance to communicate in different
languages. It has made it easy for anyone to understand a foreign
language. Words and sentences are translated instantly on Google
Translate. For now, Google Translate for smart phones allow users
to take a picture of a foreign text and have it translated. Currently,
this feature is available for particular language pairs only. That
said, there’s no guarantee that the texts translated are perfect. It’s
suffice to say that no one can earn a living as a translator through
the help of Google Translate. Some jobs should still be done by
human beings!
5. Irrespective of whether it’s Microsoft or Google, who’s doing it, online
technology is moving at a fast pace and in the right direction. This is
just a revolutionary step when it comes to human communications.
The miscommunication that comes due to the language barrier will be
gone once Microsoft and Google complete their programs. Users of
Microsoft and Google will be able to speak to one another in different
languages. For most foreign languages, the foreign responses will be
converted to texts in English while for selected popular languages,
there will be the option of hearing the translations instead of reading
them. For now, this feature is available only if the device in use has a
network.
