Standard and Pre-Assessment Versions
2. Adaptable in Your Learning Management System
Self-Paced Version with Unit Map & Pre-Assessment
Instructor-Paced Version without Pre-Assessment
Topic + Activities
Unit + Summative Activities
3. Pre-Assessment Version: Unit Home
Students click on the Unit Map & Pre-Assessment link from the Learning Management
System to arrive at the Unit Home, with instructions for taking the Pre-Assessment,
which will determine “My Learning Path.”
4. Pre-Assessment Version: My Learning Path
Based on performance on the Pre-Assessment, a personalized learning path is created.
My Learning Path shows only those Topics that require additional study for mastery.
5. Topic Level Study
The topic home page orients learners to the objectives and different learning modalities
they may use to master the concepts and procedures within the topic.
6. Presentations offer a media-rich conceptual introduction to each topic with
illustrated examples, and real-world applications. Closed captions in English and
Spanish are available.
7. Worked examples, created by Sal Khan of Khan Academy (www.khanacademy.org), walk
students through step-by-step examples (one for each objective) pointing out recommended
strategies and procedures through the use of a virtual blackboard.
8. Practice problems - symbolic and word - are designed in adaptive sets tied to learning
objectives, and offer students immediate feedback. Problems may be one of nine
different types.
9. Reviews test students mastery of a topic and the summary points students to the Topic
Text for further review as needed.
10. An integrated, open textbook (Topic Text) provides comprehensive coverage of topics
with additional explanations, manipulatives and examples. These pages may be printed
by topic, or as a complete textbook for off-line studying and note-taking. Available in
both Spanish and English.
11. Pre-Assessment version: Unit Map - Updated
The Unit Map shows student performance on each topic – those assigned, those
they passed out of, and those they mastered through study.
13. Pre-Assessment Version: Cloud-based Gradebook
The cloud-based grade service allows the instructor to edit Pre-Assessment settings and
to view progress by student or class.

The NROC team looked across all of frameworks for Developmental Math including currently available programs, AMATYC New Vision, Carnegie Learning and Common Core Standards. The program was designed using a Learning Object architecture in 19 units, 57 Lessons, 97 Topics which cover approximately 350 learning objectives.Thecurriculum is focused on Adult Learners who have failed math at least once, or been placed by a college entrance exam. We used the latest technologies and research on how to use media to illuminate the math – utilizing various instructional elements that address different learning styles. The Pre-Assessment version is designed to be a personalized diagnostic tool and efficient path to mastery.

The Presentation is a mix of media and video presenter on screen for part of the presentation. It also includes graphics and animations thatpresent CONCEPTS. This is not a full lecture but makes concepts relevant to your personal experiences and gives examples in context for the student.
Black Board procedural presentation of problems. Demonstrated step-by-step how to solve a problem. 3-5 minutes on average, but depends on what is being covered. Can be shorter or longer.
Practice Problems – allow for practice with immediate feedback at the objective level – the navigation in the bottom left indicates the objective, but each objectives has a set of MULTIPLE ADAPTIVE questions. Students will know what they did not understand from the topic.
Review – helps a student to know if they have mastered the material. At the end of the review problems students will be pointed back to what they might need to study before they move on.
Online textbook written specifically for this curriculum. It was written for the screen, not an adaptation of an analogue product. Most comprehensive coverage of the material in a topic.
When the student returns to the My Learning Path they will see that the topic “Ordering and Rounding Decimals” has been updated as “Mastered”
Unit Level components are INTEGRATIVE and help determine if a student has synthesized the information – indicating higher level understanding. Students go through problems step-by-step.We’ve call these INTEGRATIVE ACTIVITIES, but we do have people who have considered starting with these or using them as a group activity in the classroom.
The cloud-based grade service allows the instructor view student progress and to control some aspects of how the Preassessment will work. A Quickpre-assessment asks series of questions that cover multiple learning objectives. Some questions may test the same objectives more than once, but the point here is to ask the fewest number of questions to get at what the learner likely already knows. The Detailed pre-assessment asks the same questions as the Quickpre-assessment, but when a learner gets one question wrong, they are not penalized. Instead a series of additional questions are asked – one for each objective that the original question covered. The learner is scored on only the follow-up question. The objective of the Detailed pre-assessment in to get a precise measurement of what the learner already knows, but the number of questions asked will depend on how the learner responds to each question.A Detailed pre-assessment could take 2, 3 or even four times as long to complete compared to the Quickpre-assessment. You can also determine weather or not Retakes are allowed – the scoring will reflect the last attempt. And you can set the Mastery level for the Pre-assessment and Review test. There are three reports available – Pre-Assessment Report - shows the Topics passed in each Unit of the course.Unit Progress Report - shows the detailed data for each UnitClass Summary Report - While the other reports give you detailed student information for a specific Unit, this report was design to show a snapshot of student progress through the entire course
