Japanese Cultural Class for Foreign Residents
A Japanese cultural class for foreign residents
is scheduled to be held Nov. 9 from 1 to 4 p.m.
on the second floor of Harmony Hall in Zama City.
The class is offered free of charge

a tea ceremony,
traditional Japanese music instruments

Acute Hepatitis Illness Cases
Linked to OxyELITE Pro
According to the Centers for Disease Control,
the Hawaii Department of Health
has identified 29 patients
with severe acute hepatitis (non-viral)
and sudden liver failure of unknown cause.

Two of these cases
have received liver transplants
and one person has died.

The patients were previously healthy and
sought medical care
from May through October 2013,
after using OxyELITE Pro, a dietary supplement
marketed for weight loss and muscle gain.

The FDA advises consumers to stop using
any dietary supplement product labeled
as OxyELITE Pro while the investigation continues.

Halloween Safety Tips
Halloween will be observed on Oct. 31
and trick-or-treating will be held on Camp Zama

Here are some safety tips to keep in mind
when out with your family:
Children trick-or-treating must be
supervised
by a responsible adult.

Limit children’s trick-or-treating to
housing areas in which they reside, and
only
at residences with lighted entry ways.

Children should wear light-colored,
fire-resistant costumes that are short
enough
to prevent tripping.
To increase visibility, reflective tape,
small lights or glow sticks are
recommended.

Always use sidewalks and designated
crosswalks, and look in all directions
before walking across the street.
Do not cut through residents’ yards.

Colorful facial makeup and masks or
head coverings that do not block
children’s
vision are recommended when choosing
costumes.

Pet owners should prevent their pets from
being a menace to trick-or-treating
children.
Parents should caution their children
about causing damage to others’ property.

Children should carry a flashlight, and
any carried pumpkins should be lit
with a battery-powered light, not a candle.

Children should eat a full meal before
trick-or-treating, and parents should
inspect

“Loco Festa” Hawaiian Music Event in Zama City
An event known as “Loco Festa”
is scheduled to be held

the Army’s Funded Legal Education Program.
Under this program, the Army projects sending
up to 25 active-duty commissioned officers
to law school at government expense.

Selected officers will attend law school

and will remain on active duty while attending.

This program is open to commissioned officers

During Leave and TDY
All Army family housing and unaccompanied
personnel housing residents must notify
the Housing Management Division for absences
from their quarters of seven days or more.

Provide a point of contact for
a responsible sponsor or adult
to perform periodic checks to ensure
the home is safe, secure and free of incidents
and unexpected circumstances,
and maintain the yard as well, if applicable.

In the event you do not assign
a point of contact during your absence,
the Housing Management Division
will contact your organization or agency
to request their support – especially when it comes
to keeping up your yard maintenance.

Multiple Half-Road Closures on Camp Zama

The Directorate of Public Works
is in the process of replacing domestic hot water
and chilled/hot water lines on Camp Zama.
The project began May 30 and
is scheduled to continue through November.
This project will require half-road closures

Household Goods Weight Allowance Change
Effective Dec. 1, 2011,
weight allowance to and from Japan was reduced
for all Soldiers to 2,500 pounds (net)
or 25 percent (net) of full weight allowance,
or whichever is greater.
All civilians are authorized 4,500 pounds (net).
Unaccompanied baggage is inclusive.

Reminder of Pet Owners’ Responsibilities
The following list of responsibilities for pet owners
living on Camp Zama, Sagamihara Family
Housing Area and Sagami Depot was released
by the Housing Management Division:
- Sponsors are responsible for cleaning the areas
used by their pets.
- If kept outside, the pet’s area must be policed daily
to prevent a buildup of trash and fecal material.

- Owners must clean up waste left by their pet
during walks.
- Fecal droppings must be disposed of in sealed
plastic bags (preferably double bags) and be
placed in garbage receptacles.
- Un-bagged waste must not be placed in garbage
receptacles.

Driving in Japan Classes

Emergency kits to sustain for 72 hours are an
essential tool for meeting that challenge.

• Ensure everyone understands the plan, and practices.
• How to communicate during an emergency.
• Consider what to do, where to go, what to take.
• Plan for members with disabilities or special needs.
• Include pets in family plan.
