2. • Sound is an important component when creating a trailer as
audio comes before visual.
• Sound can some from either come from the mise-en-scene or
externally.
• By having a good soundtrack in your work, it hide some of the
cracks in the image.
• For example via YouTube the screen size is limited but the
sound will always be as powerful.
• What often is used is a “Sound Bridge” which basically is when
there is a continuous sound between shots to make the story
flow.
3. • There are two types of sound:
- Diegetic sounds from the mise-en-scene
- Non-Diegetic sounds from outside the mise-en-scene
• Diegetic sound comes from the location you are at when filming in this
case a trailer. Location sound is often hidden with sound effects.
Ambient and Room tone is included to create realism. Dialogue is
important when it comes to diegetic sound, if there is a good actor
he/she will change the tone, accent and pitch of their voice according
to the director but an average actor may not be able to which can be
worked on in post production.
• Non-diegetic includes soundtracks of a trailer. Soundtrack is pre-
recorded music which is chosen to be included to fit the
storyline, some soundtracks also use lyrics as they add meaning to the
scene.
4. • Voiceover is a convention which is used the most in a trailer. the
best way to record a voiceover is in a quiet environment.
• A good voiceover is critical as if the trailer is being promoted via
radio then there won’t be any visual element so the voiceover
will to the only way to attract the audience towards the film.
• A famous person known to do voiceovers is trailer was Don
LaFontaine who voiced over 5,000 film trailers which included
The Terminator
• Terminator 2: Judgment Day

5. Functions of a voiceover include:
• Helps make sense of the narrative by giving us the background
information, for example where the action is set or who the
characters are
• Highlights the stars who are appearing in the film
• Give us the information about the production personnel such as the
director and producer. Also sometime previous projects of both are
shared
• Helps to build up excitement about the film’s release
• Emphasize the title of the film
• Sets the atmosphere of the film
