POST WAR BRITAIN
     Gabriela Rubiano
       Paula Perez
       Paula Suarez
• As west Germany pursued free-market
polices, Great Britain moved in the
  opposite direction. In 1945 British
  voters rejected Winston Churchill`s
conservative party. The Labour party, a
  moderate socialist party, formed
  Britain`s postwar government.
WELFARE STATE
• A state in which the government takes
primary responsibility for the social welfare of
its citizens. The British government provided
free medical care for everyone. It nationalized
the Bank or England, coal mines, railroads,
and utilities. It did not, however, interfere with
  most industry, which remained privately
  owned.
ECONOMIC PROBLEMS
• (after the war)
• Many workers had died in the war.
• Some scientists and managers had emigrated
to australia ,canada, or the united states.
• After the war great britain lost valuable
  colonies and posseions.
• The cost of its remaining overseas
  commitments was a heavy burden.
Winston churchill
•He was the prime minister.
•He reverset some of the Labour
governmet ‘s nationalization policies .
•The general outlines of the British
welfare state remained in place under the
conservatives.
Decline

•One cause of this decline was the shift in the world
economy from coal to oil and nuclear power as energy
resources.

•The Labour Party blamed the conservatives for the
poor economy, but it did no better when holding the
majority itself.
