Part of the “UNESCO’ World POI” Map Project which is
implemented through UNESCO Office in Nairobi,
Windhoek, New Delhi and Jakarta.
 POI theme varies depending on the issues that develop in
each city.


What is PhotoVoice?
PhotoVoice is a participatory process to deliver a message
using photograph.
WHY PHOTOGRAPH?

> Capturing photos is simple. Anyone can do it.
> Photos can cross the cultures and language
differences
> Digital Photography is easier to access nowadays
> Channels to share photos is more diverse
> It’s a good recording tool and the process itself is
creative.

Digitalization), Introduction to OpenStreetMap, Photovoice
and Crowdmap Introduction, Using GPS and Field Papers

Needs Assessment is important, know the
participant’s characteristic beforehand

Mapping Flood POI Using OSM and Photovoice

  1. Just raining for 2-3 hours there must be some area got flooded
  2. A mural lamenting floods in Jakarta.
  3. During the needs assessment, we give them questions about their impression when flood occurs.Some of them actually feel happy because they can play with the water and the school is dismissed.They’re not that aware of how devestating flood can be.
  4. Creating a map with flood theme can help young people to understand the hazards around them and also help the process of critical thinking by providing a perspective of the lessons that they have acquired through books and learning activitiesThe younger generation are expected to develop their ability to express opinions based on their experiences and insights so that they can become agents of positive change for the community.Through this training, students are expected to not only gain knowledge in the field of GIS that can facilitate them to create and utilize an interactive map, but also helps them to be able to further explore the lessons learned in school. This training can be useful for day-to-day activities and their work in the future.
  5. To build their interest, we should combine mapping activity with another method
  6. Students were interacting with local people to get as much and rich information as they could
  7. This is a portable and public toilet located in a government-owned flats Pluit Reservoir area. When flood happened, this toilet was pretty useful for the victims. But, this toilet is broken now and no one ever use this again.
  8. This house was one of the houses that were affected by January 2013 flood. But, as the owner said, it always got big flooded at least once every 5 years. This house were located in northeastern of Pluit Reservoir and in a basin area. As seen on the wall, there is a mark indicating the water level during the flood, approximately 2 meters high
  9. This creek is located in the north of Pluit Reservoir.There is a dense people settlement around the creek, and it is a habit of the people that they throw their household waste to the water body. As the result, the water flow is not smooth, and if flood occured, the settlement around this area automatically got flooded. On early 2013 flood events, this area was flooded for mor than 2 meters depth.
